Purpose: This study was conducted to survey the cancer screening status of Korean elderly and to analyze factors influencing cancer rescreening intention. Methods: Participants were 262 elderly aged 65 or older who visited medical examination center at D University hospital located in D city. Data were collected from June 1 to July 31, 2012 using a structured questionnaire which included health behavior and cancer screening related characteristics, theory of planned behavior variables, EQ-5D, and cancer screening satisfaction. The data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: Factors influencing elderly's cancer rescreening intention were 'satisfaction about the cancer screening', 'attitude toward cancer rescreening behavior', 'subjective norm toward cancer rescreening behavior', and 'previous experience with cancer screening in the past 2 years'. Cancer rescreening intention was higher in participants with satisfied experience of cancer screening, more positive in attitude and higher in subjective norm toward cancer rescreening. Cancer rescreening intention was lower when participants were not screened for cancer in the past 2 years. Conclusion: The study results indicate that customized interventions based on influential factors such as subjective norm, attitude toward cancer screening, and cancer screening satisfaction are necessary in order to promote the consistent cancer screening of Korean elderly.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the overall levels of the middle aged salary men's attitudes toward retirement plan and financial planning for post-retirement life, and to understand the influencing variables such as personal, socio-economical and job characteristics. The data were collected from the 445 middle aged male salary workers through the structured questionnaires and were analysed by SPSS program. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, the salary men had different level of perception of retirement issues and retirement planning for post-retirement life. Second, according to the attitudes for retirement planning types, the affecting variables were different. Third, the results of the analysis showed that personal characteristics, job characteristics, economical background and the perception of family care were affecting the level of financial planning for retirement. And the positive attitude was the most crucial variable which affected the financial planning for retirement.
This study examined the crisis experiencing by middle - aged women and tried to understand their lived experiences also explored the nature of their crisis. Method: The data was collected from 7 participants living in Incheon and Seoul from Sep. 2000 to Feb. 2001. The analysis of the data was made the phenomenological analytic method suggested by Giorgi. Result: The meanings of the lived experiences of the middle - aged women's crisis ; Impatience about decreased physical function : an attack of a disease, decreased strength, decreased quickness, decreased desire, increased concern of health, poor memory, easy fatigue, change of appearance, change of conjugal relations, sense of loss. Psychological, emotional disturbances : sense of emptiness, regret, sharpness, feeling gloomy, fear of dying, loneliness, feeling the want, loss of confidence. Attitude of active life : reinforcement of self experience, enrichment of understanding, search of self satisfaction, search of self development, development of support system, management of independent life. Envy feeling from relative comparison : feeling of comfort, unsatisfaction to the husband, yearning for youth. Conclusion: Therefore, the program should be developed for the program of physical, psychological, and emotional health and expansion of social role of the middle - aged women.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a program promoting adjustment to hospital life and determining its effectiveness for school aged children. Method: The sample group consisted of 76 hospitalized children in 2 University Hospitals located in Busan. The experimental group was given the program on admission and feedback was obtained on the 3rd day and again 24 hours later. Data was analyzed using t-test and ANOVA in the SPSS program package. Result: There were significant differences, in information(t=4.235, p=0.000) and coping effort criteria (t=2.922, p=0.005) between the experimental and control groups. There was a non-significant difference in attitude criteria between the two groups(t=1.009, p=0.316). Conclusion: It was found that the adjustment promoting program for hospital life for school aged children was effective, but not enough to promote self-esteem. The program, based on a learning theory, was improved and shown to be an effective and strong method to promote adjustment of school-aged children.
The current study aimed at exploring the knowledge and beliefs of men aged forty years and over towards prostate cancer screening and early detection in three Arab countries. The field work was conducted in three countries; Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan, during the period February through December 2011. Our target population were men aged 40 years and over. It was a population-based cross sectional study comprising 400 subjects at each site. In addition to socio-demographic data, history of the present and past medical illness, practice history of prostatic cancer examination, family history of cancer prostate; participants were inquired about their knowledge and attitude towards prostate cancer and screening behavior using two different likert scales. The percentage of participants who practiced regular prostate check up ranged from 8-30%. They had poor knowledge and fair attitude towards prostate cancer screening behavior, where the mean total knowledge score was $10.25{\pm}2.5$, $10.76{\pm}3.39$ and $11.24{\pm}3.39$ whereas the mean total attitude score was $18.3{\pm}4.08$, $20.68{\pm}6.4$ and $17.96{\pm}5.3$ for Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan respectively. The respondents identified the physicians as the main sources of this information (62.4%), though they were not the main motives for regular checkup. Knowledge was the only significant predictor for participants' attitude in the multiple regression models. Participants' attitudes depends mainly on level of knowledge and quantity of information provided to the patients and their families. Such attitudes should rely on a solid background of proper information and motivation from physicians to enhance and empower behaviors towards prostate cancer screening practices.
The purpose of this study was to identify the factors affected on the perception of appropriateness and the evaluation of physical state in the public community facilities. The sample of the study were consisted of 381 middle-aged and the aged who were participated in the leisure programs of the public community facilities and were living in Seoul and Daegu. Frequencies, means, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression were employed for the analysis. The results of the study were as follows: The perception of appropriateness and the evaluation of the physical state in the public community facilities were differed by the type of facilities. The factors affected on the perception of appropriateness of the public community facilities were region, the access of transportation, and leisure attitude of the middle-aged and the aged. The factors had effects on the evaluation of the physical state of the facilities were educational attainment, health status, region, the access of transportation and the leisure participation.
The study investigated the hygienic practice attitudes of 500 housewives living in the Seoul area through survey. The suey questionnaire evaluated general information, purchasing behaviors, 4 parts of hygienic practice attitude and the associated factors. The subjects were mostly full-time housewives aged in their $30{\sim}40's$, high school graduates from middle-class families who had been married for $6{\sim}10$ years. The mean score for hygienic practice attitude was 2.9 out of 5 point scale, representing a fairly low hygienic practice attitude except for food preparation area(3.4 pt.). Factors affecting hygienic practice attitude were age, occupation, and marriage term. Practice attitude was positively correlated with age (p<0.01). Full-time housewives had better practice attitude. Housewives with <5 and >26 years of marriage showed inferior practice attitude (p<0.05). In addition, food purchasing behaviors were strongly related to hygienic practice attitude. Housewives gathering hygiene information from mass media maintained a significantly higher practice attitude (p<0.05), and so did the housewives focusing on 'nutrition' and 'freshness' when fish and frozen foods were purchased (p<0.05). In contrast, housewives focusing on cost had a significantly lower practice attitude (p<0.05). In conclusion, the level of hygienic practice attitude of housewives was fairly low and was affected by age, occupation status, marriage term and several aspects of purchasing behaviors. Therefore, it is extremely important to conduct training and education for housewives to improve their hygienic practice attitude and awareness of hygiene.
The purpose of this study was to identify the differences in cosmetics brand selection by product type, and the differences in ambivalent cosmetics consumption attitude by ambivalent clothing consumption attitude. The subjects of the study were females aged 20 plus, living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province between January and February 2008, and 427 questionnaires were used for analysis. For data analysis SPSS 17.0 statistical program was used, and principal component analysis, paired t-test and t-test were conducted. The results and conclusions of this study are as follows: firstly, the differences in cosmetics brand selection by product type were investigated. The results showed that domestic high-priced brands of skincare products were selected most often, that foreign high-priced brands of base products and color products were selected most frequently, that domestic low-and medium-priced brands of hair products were selected most often, and that foreign low-and medium-priced brands of body products were selected most frequently. In particular, foreign high-priced brands of color products were most favored, followed by domestic low-and medium-priced brands. The subjects selected foreign high-priced brands, which are the most expensive, and domestic low-and medium-priced brands, which are the least expensive, at the same time. They displayed ambivalent consumption patterns. Secondly, the differences in cosmetics consumption attitude by ambivalent clothing consumption attitude were examined. Groups high on ambivalent clothing consumption attitude had a higher cosmetics consumption attitude than groups low on ambivalent clothing consumption attitude.
Purpose: Regular cancer screening for workers can help prevent cancer or allow early treatment, and is thus beneficial in improving health, reducing costs, and increasing companies' productivity. However, there has been little research on cancer screening rates of workers and related factors. The purpose of this study was to identify cancer screening rates and relevant factors among manufacturing workers. Methods: Using a questionnaire, data were collected from 335 workers aged over 40 years recruited from seven manufacturing companies. The collected information included cancer screenings (stomach, colorectal, breast, and cervical), attitude towards cancer screening, and demographic and job characteristics. Results: 72.5% of workers received stomach cancer screening (SCS), and 43% received colorectal cancer screening (CRCS). Among 86 women, 68.6% received breast cancer screening and cervical cancer screening. The attitude towards cancer screening was $29.5{\pm}3.78$. Workers aged over 51, married, and those working in mobile manufacturing were more likely to have undergone SCS. Workers aged over 51, married, those working in mobile manufacturing, those in workplaces with more than 1,001 employees, and those with more positive attitudes toward cancer screening were more likely to have undergone CRCS. Finally, attitude affected cervical cancer screening. Conclusion: Workers in small-sized workplaces had lower cancer screening rates. Thus, follow-up research should assess the health environment of workplaces and develop educational programs on cancer screening that reflect attitudes towards screening.
The aim of this study is to clarify the provision for later life and needs for elderly housing according to the cognitional attitude about the elderly housing. 420 middle aged who lived in Kyungnam area were responded to self-questionnaire. Two groups are divided by the cognitional attitude about the elderly housing, one is positive group and the other is negative. The positive group is higher monthly income, upper college school career and apartment housing types. Economic means to provide for their later life are an insurance, a saving, a pension etc. The positive group is willing to do higher economic expenses for elderly housing in downtown or suburban area. And the positive group prefers rental with a deposit to ownership type for residing elderly housing.
