  • Jazz derived from the blacks' work songs and made the frame of Jazz reaching blues and finally arrived at the recent time propagating itself as not only the blacks' music but all human being's music. This study has a purpose to suggest the Jazz image to the fashion design by examining the historical trace of Jazz which is one of popular music received by hearing sense. As for the result of the Jazz's effects by age, rhythmical beauty stressing dresses were in fashion by dance enjoying women in 1920's and dresses giving a mature atmosphere set the fashion in 1930's. in the beginning of 1990's, newly emerging Jazz was reflected to the popular culture along with the historical mode's fashion in the general society. The design's decided with two themes of Jazz Classic and Neo Fusion to modernly and naturally express the pursuit of strong color contrast which associated fast rhythm and lax image such as the counter melody of smooth Jazz. In that result, Jazz image with auditory feelings could suggest the various design motive and new idea to fashion design.

  • Pompe disease is a genetic disorder caused by a deficiency of acid ${\alpha}$-glucosidase (GAA). This enzyme defect results in lysosomal glycogen accumulation in multiple tissues and cell types, with cardiac, skeletal, and smooth muscle cells the most seriously affected. Infantile-onset Pompe disease is uniformly lethal. Affected infants present in the first few months of life with hypotonia, generalized muscle weakness, and a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, followed by death from cardiorespiratory failure or respiratory infection, usually by 1 year of age. Late-onset forms is characterized by a lack of severe cardiac involvement and a less severe short-term prognosis. Enzyme replacement therapy for Pompe disease is intended to address directly the underlying metabolic defect via intravenous infusions of recombinant human GAA to provide the missing enzyme. We experienced one case of Pompe disease in 3-years old boy that has improved his exercise ability and cardiac function after GAA enzyme replacement therapy.

  • The purpose of the present study is to offer the fundamental materials for the diagnosis of dentigerous cyst by analysis of the clinical and radiographic findings of these lesions. The subject for this study consisted 118 patients admitted to the Department of Oral Radiology, Kyung Hee University and Seoul National University from 1974 to 1983. Conclusions from this study were as follows: 1. There was a higher incidence in males (70.34%) than in females (29.66%), and the incidence was highest in the second and third decade (26.27%) with the same incidence. (Average age: 25 year) 2. There was a higher incidence in the maxillary teeth (66.10%) than in the mandibular teeth (33.90%) and the maxillary supernumerary tooth (45.76%) was the most frequently involved one. The mandibular third molar (16.10%) was next in order of frequency of involvement followed by maxillary canine (7.63%), mandibular second premolar (5.08%). 3. There was a greater incidence of the central type than the lateral type in the maxilla, while a higher incidence of the lateral type in the mandible. 4. There was a greater incidence of the smooth type (84.26%) than that of the scalloped type (15.74%) and a higher incidence of minor type (70.91%) than the major type (29.09%) in the displacement of associated tooth. 5. Root apices of teeth encompassed or approached by the cysts showed variable resorption in 68.47% of cases.

  • Adenomyosis is a nonneoplastic proliforation of uterine glands characterized by multicentric infiltration of endometrial tissues into the myometrium. A female domestic short hair cat with unknown age was referred to local animal hospital in Busan for ovariohysterectomy to prevent the unwanted offspring. At the time of surgery, the uterus was enlarged with multiple nodular protrusion on the serosa. On the cut surface of uterus, elevation of the endometrium and hypertrophied myometrium were observed. Microscopically, the uterus was characterized by severe proliforation of endometrial glands into the lumen and within the myometrium. The intra-myometrial endometrium is circumferentially surrounded by bundles of hypertrophic smooth muscle cells. These endometrial glands had tall columnar epithelium lacking nuclear atypia and mitoses. In our best knowledge, this is the first report of feline adenomyosis in Korea.

  • Post-operative maxillary cyst may arise after the surgical intervention for maxillary sinusitis with the symptoms of swelling, pain and pus discharge in the buccal region. The author analized 66 cases clinically and radiographically which were diagnosed as post- operative maxillary cyst in SNUH during 5 years (1977. 8-1982. 7). The obtained results were as follows; 1. This cyst occurred more frequently in male than in female and the incidence is the highest in the 4th decade. 2. The right side was more frequently affected than the left side. 3. Initial radical operations of the maxillary sinueses were performed mainly between the age of 15 and 24 years. 4. The duration between the initial operation and the onset of cyst was mainly from 10 to 24 years. 5. Pain, swelling and pus discharge in the buccal region were most frequent chief complaints. 6. In panoramic radiographs, most of the post-operative maxillary cysts were monolocular type, showing distinct border, with smooth margin and without any definite sclerotic border. 7. In Waters' view, 43 cases showed radiographic changes due to cyst.

  • Pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis is a disease involving the proliferation of atypical smooth muscle cells from the perilymphatics, peribronchial and perivascular region of the lung and the retroperitneum. The disease usually affects women of child-bearing age. We recently experienced a case of pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis in a 31-year-old women who had suffered from a chylous pleural effusion. Histologic confirmation of lymphangioleiomyomatosis Was made upon a video-associated thoracoscopic lung biopsy. Here we report this case with a brief review of the literature.

  • Pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis is a rare disease occurring almost exclusively in woman of reproductive age. It is characterized by rapid deterioration of respiratory functions and results in death within an average of 10 years. This disease is caused by a progressive proliferation of atypical smooth muscle in the pulmonary lymphatic vessels, blood vessels, and airways leading to the development of distal cystic changes which causes frequent recurrent pneumothoraces. We experienced a case of pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis in a 30-year old woman who had a history of bilateral, recurrent pneumothoraces. The patient underwent lung biopsy through right thoracotomy which revealed the diagnosis of pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis. We report a case with a review of the literature.

  • Infantile myofibromatosis is a rare benign neoplasm which is usually found in males. Most cases of the infantile myofibromatosis are discovered before the age of two years and about half of cases are found at muscle, tendon, and soft tissue of head-neck region. However, it is especially uncommon that infantile myofibroma occurs at the pre-auricular area. In current case, we report a twenty two months old male patient with $2.5{\times}1.5cm$ sized pre-auricular mass at right side. It was surgically removed and histologically showed broad bundle of plump myoid spindle cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm and weakly positive smooth muscle actin expression in myoid cells. In three months of follow up, there was no recurrence.

  • Objective : Hemorrhagic transformation (HT) can be occurred after acute cerebral infarction. HT can worse symptoms in severe cases and adversely affect long-term prognosis. As bone and vascular smooth muscle are composed of type 1 collagen, we aimed to identify a potential relationship between bone mineral density (BMD) and HT after acute cardioembolic stroke. Methods : As an indicator of BMD, we used mean frontal skull Hounsfield unit (HU) values on brain computed tomography (CT). Multivariative hazard ratios were calculated using Cox regression analysis to identify whether the osteoporotic condition was an independent predictor of HT after acute cardioembolic stroke. Results : This 11-year analysis enrolled 506 patients who diagnosed as acute cardioembolic infarction. The first tertile of skull HU value was an independent predictor of HT development compared to the third tertile (hazard ratio, 2.12; 95% confidence interval, 1.13-3.98; p=0.020). We observed no interactions between age and skull HU with respect to HT statistically. Conclusion : The results of this study revealed an association between osteoporotic conditions and HT development after acute cardioembolic stroke. A convenient method to measure the cancellous bone HU value of the frontal skull using brain CT images may be useful for predicting HT in patients with acute cerebral infarction.

  • Water distribution networks (WDNs) are designed to satisfy water requirement of an urban community. One of the central issues in human history is providing sufficient quality and quantity of water through WDNs. A WDN consists of a great number of pipelines with different ages, lengths, materials, and sizes in varying degrees of deterioration. The available annual budget for rehabilitation of these infrastructures only covers part of the network; thus it is important to manage the limited budget in the most cost-effective manner. In this study, a novel pipe replacement scheduling approach is proposed in order to smooth the annual investment time series based on a life cycle cost assessment. The proposed approach is applied to a real WDN currently operating in South Korea. The proposed scheduling plan considers both the annual budget limitation and the optimum investment on pipes' useful life. A non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm is used to solve a multi-objective optimization problem. Three decision-making objectives, including the minimum imposed LCC of the network, the minimum standard deviation of annual cost, and the minimum average age of the network, are considered to find optimal pipe replacement planning over long-term time period. The results indicate that the proposed scheduling structure provides efficient and cost-effective rehabilitation management of water network with consistent annual budget.
