The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of housewives' dietary awareness and habits on the reduction and recycling of food waste products. We have done statistical analyses of 501 questionnaires answered by housewives living in Taegu city. The results are as follows: The dietary awareness is significantly different according to the housewives' ages. The group of above 50's age and the group of housewives and their husbands with a lower education level have a more traditional awareness and eating up habits. Also the younger group, and those with a higher education level who grew up in a big city have a more progressive dietary awareness. But the younger, higher income, small family, higher education level groups, and also employed housewives, produced more food waste products than the other groups, The groups thsose have traditional or rational awareness concerning dietary awareness, and those with good eating up and accurate cooking habits turned out to have more affirmative effects on the reduction and recycling of food waste products.
Purpose: Closed reduction and nasal packings for 3-7 days is usual procedures in managing nasal bone fracture. Most patients experience several discomfort owing to lack of nasal breathing. There are many reports concerning how to reduce patient's discomforts or complications. But it is obvious that the duration of nasal packing is 3-7 days. The aim of this study is evaluate the effect of half day nasal packing in results of nasal bone fracture. Methods: The study was performed on 97 nasal bone fracture patients who had simple nasal bone fractures from January to June 2012. The incidence, cause, patient's discomfort and satisfaction with half day nasal packing are analyzed according to patient's medical records and questionnaire at each nasal packing removal, postoperative 4 weeks. Results: Young male patients, especially the teenagers and the twenties were the common age group, and physical violence was most common cause of injury. A total of 78 out of 97 patients were male. In 92 cases, closed reduction were applied. Approximately, 87% of the patients were satisfied with the outcomes. Conclusion: Half day nasal packing is considered as an effective method to minimize patient's discomfort owing to prolonged absence of nasal breathing with maintenance of stability.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of living cost reduction through social welfare services and programs and to suggest the further ways of saving living cost for low-income households. For the research purpose, low-income household type was divided into three representative groups such as senior household, household with school-aged children, and household with the disabled based on the literature review. Four case households which live in permanent rental apartment in Seoul were selected as research subjects. During March 14~April 10, 2010, each household was interviewed to examine the details of monthly income and expenditure structure and types of welfare services receiving. Although some differences exist among cases, there was a definite living cost reduction effect through welfare services and programs from 12% to 150%. Household with school-aged children required diversified education programs corresponding to the children's age. Meanwhile, households including senior and the disabled indicated the necessity of convenient transportation system.
Purpose: Sternal fractures after blunt thoracic trauma can cause significant pain and disability. They are relatively uncommon as a result of direct trauma to the sternum and open reduction is reserved for those with debilitating pain and fracture displacement. We reviewed consecutive 11 cases of open reduction and fixation of sternum and tried to find standard approach to the traumatic sternal fractures with severe displacement. Methods: From December 2008 to August 2010, the medical records of 11 patients who underwent surgical reduction and fixation of sternum for sternal fractures with severe displacement were reviewed. We investigated patients' characteristics, chest trauma, associated other injuries, type of open reduction and fixation, combined operations, preoerative ventilator support and postoperative complications. Results: The mean patient age was 59.3years (range, 41~79). The group comprised 6 male and 5 female subjects. Among 11 patients who underwent open reduction and fixation for sternal fracture with severe displacement, 6 cases had isolated sternal fractures and the other 5 patients had associated other injuries. Sternal fractures were caused by car accidents (9/11, 81.8%), falling down (1/11, 9.1%) and direct blunt trauma to the sternum (1/11, 9.1%), respectively. 3 of the 7 patients (42.9%) who underwent sternal plating with longitudinal plates showed loosening of fixation. Otherwise, none of the 4 patients who underwent surgical fixation using T-shaped plate had stable alignment of the fracture. Conclusion: Sternal fractures with severe displacement need to be repaired to prevent chronic pain, instability of the anterior chest wall, deformity of the sternum, and even kyphosis. In the present study, a T-shaped plate with a compression-tension mechanism constitutes the treatment of choice for displaced sternal fractures.

As abnormal climates occur due to the increase in greenhouse gases at home and abroad, various problems such as human casualties, crop damage, energy depletion, and economic loss due to heat diseases, which are one of the extreme climate phenomena, are following one after another. In response, the government has established the 'Climate Crisis Response Special Committee' since 2018, when it recorded the greatest damage in history due to heat waves, and has been carrying out budget formation and reform of laws and systems every year to respond to heat waves. However, in relation to the heat wave damage reduction facility that is being expanded with a large budget, there is no prior research related to the degree of heat loss due to the use of the facility, the difference in effects between specific groups, and the economic effect that comes back compared to the invested budget. Therefore, from a midto long-term perspective, it is expected that it will be difficult to establish a clear direction for policy making. Therefore, in this study, representative facilities were selected according to the principle of heat reduction among the currently expanded heat damage reduction facilities, and a questionnaire survey was conducted for users of each reduction facility (waterfall, awning, pond, and elastic pavement). Accordingly, the change in the sense of heat according to the use of the heat damage reduction facility was checked, and the change in the sense of heat according to the group characteristics (gender, age, metabolic rate) was analyzed to examine the characteristics of the relationship between the facility and the users.
This study examined public perceptions of the reasons underlying sentence reduction for defendants convicted of sex crimes against persons with intellectual disability. An online survey was conducted among 522 adults in South Korea. Respondent endorsement of 20 reasons underlying sentence reduction, which were embedded within the respective rulings, and the perceived appropriateness of statutory sentence for the crimes committed were assessed. The results showed that most respondents endorsed the sentence; moreover, those who disagreed underscored the need for more severe punishment. Almost all the respondents perceived the following reasons and explanations unfavorably: impulsiveness caused by sexual arousal or alcohol consumption; an accidental occurrence; and personal characteristics such as defendant age, health condition, socioeconomic status, developmental history, and family background. However, there was a relative agreement in that the damage caused by the incident was relatively minor, or the defendant's reflection and attitude to recover the damage were used as reasons for the reduction. Differences in respondent perceptions of the reasons underlying sentence reduction as a function of gender and educational background were relatively small. However, younger respondents held harsher attitudes toward sentence reduction. The present findings underscore the need to be mindful of victims' statements and the characteristics of persons with intellectual disability while sentencing.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the results of salty taste assessment, dietary attitudes, and dietary behaviors among adult and senior women by region and by age. The results generated from this was expected to provide fundamental data for implementing a nationwide salt reduction education program. Methods: The salty taste assessment tool was applied to 4,064 subjects from 15 areas in Korea. Also, a survey of dietary attitude and dietary behavior related to salt intake was conducted for all subjects participated in this study. Results: The salty taste assessment scores by region and by age were the lowest in capital (p < 0.01) and was highest among the 70+ year age group (p < 0.01). The dietary attitude scores and dietary behavior scores showed that Gyeongsang was the highest (p < 0.001) and the capital was the lowest. The dietary attitude scores were highest at 20&30's followed by 40's and 70's group (p < 0.001). Dietary behavior scores showed that 20's~30's and 40's groups were higher than the other age groups (p < 0.001). The score of 'I like kimchi' was $3.46{\pm}0.88$, which was the highest among 10 dietary behavior questions. The score of 'I eat a lot of kimchi' was $3.30{\pm}0.90$, which was the highest among 10 dietary behavior questions related to salt intake. The scores of salty taste assessment had significant positive correlations between the scores of dietary attitude (p < 0.001), dietary behavior (p < 0.001) and self-awareness (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Based on the results of salty taste assessment, we observed a tendency that older people and regions except the capital had higher preference for salty taste. Our results suggested the necessity for a nationwide salty reduction education program tailored for regions and for different age groups.

Background Patients having unilateral breast reconstruction often require a second stage procedure on the contralateral breast to improve symmetry. In order to provide immediate symmetry and minimize the frequency and extent of secondary procedures, we began performing simultaneous contralateral balancing operations at the time of initial reconstruction. This study examines the indications, safety, and efficacy of this approach. Methods One-hundred and two consecutive breast reconstructions with simultaneous contralateral balancing procedures were identified. Data included patient age, body mass index (BMI), type of reconstruction and balancing procedure, specimen weight, transfusion requirement, complications and additional surgery under anesthesia. Unpaired t-tests were used to compare BMI, specimen weight and need for non-autologous transfusion. Results Average patient age was 48 years. The majority had autologous tissue-only reconstructions (94%) and the rest prosthesis-based reconstructions (6%). Balancing procedures included reduction mammoplasty (50%), mastopexy (49%), and augmentation mammoplasty (1%). Average BMI was 27 and average reduction specimen was 340 grams. Non-autologous blood transfusion rate was 9%. There was no relationship between BMI or reduction specimen weight and need for transfusion. We performed secondary surgery in 24% of the autologous group and 100% of the prosthesis group. Revision rate for symmetry was 13% in the autologous group and 17% in the prosthesis group. Conclusions Performing balancing at the time of breast reconstruction is safe and most effective in autologous reconstructions, where 87% did not require a second operation for symmetry.
Maximal expiratory flow-volume [MEFV] curves were studied in 22 patients who underwent pneumonectomy with various pulmonary lesions, such as lung cancer, bronchiectasis and tuberculosis etc, at the preoperative stage and 3 week, 4 month and 12 month after pneumonectomy for the analysis of the reduction and progressive improvement of postoperative ventilatory function. And the factors affecting them like as age difference and the site of pneumonectomy were also analyzed. From these curves peak flow rate [PF R], maximal expiratory flows at 25% and 50% of expired forced vital capacity [V25, V50] and forced vital capacity [FVC] were obtained. In addition, partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide in arterial blood were measured. The results were as follows; 1. The mixed type, especially obstructive type of ventilatory impairment was observed at 3 week after operation. For 1 year of postpneumonectomy FVC was increased by 12.3% of predicted compared to 2.6% of predicted V50. 2. The improvement of FVC during 1 year of postpneumonectomy showed decreasing tendency with the increase of age but the changes of V25 and V50 were unremarkable. 3. The differences of immediate postoperative reduction and progressive improvement of ventilatory capacity after right and left pneumonectomy were analyzed. The reduction of V50, V25 and FVC at 3 week of postoperation were greater in patients with right pneumonectomy [20.9%, 18.2% and 26.2% of predicted] than in patients with left pneumonectomy 16.5%, 18.2% and 18.1%]. But there was no significant difference of these values at 12 month after pneumonectomy. 4. The partial pressure of oxygen in arterial blood [$PaO_2$] was decreased by 13.6 mmHg at 3 week after pneumonectomy compared to the preoperative stage but returned to the normal range within 4 month after pneumonectomy. However, TEX>$PaCO_2$ was within the normal range during 1 year of postoperation.

Background and Objectives The incidence of facial bone fracture is increasing. The zygomatic bone, due to its anatomical prominence, is the second most common site of all facial bone fractures. In this study, we present the clinical experiences of zygomatic arch fracture in a tertiary hospital and introduce the Gillies approach for reduction and its outcome results. Subjects and Method We collected data from retrospective chart reviews of patients who underwent surgeries from 2010 to 2017 for zygomatic arch fractures at Chungbuk National University Hospital. Data were analyzed according to age, gender, cause of trauma, location of trauma, and clinical symptoms including trismus. All surgery was performed under general anesthesia and via the use of Gillies approach. The result of surgery was evaluated by postoperative facial computed tomography. Results Sixteen patients underwent surgery for zygomatic arch fracture. The patients had the average age of 41.3 years, a male predominance of 15:1 and physical assault as the most common cause of trauma. The time lag between injury and surgical reduction was 5.5 days. The surgical outcomes were assessed 'good' in 14 cases and 'moderate' in one case. Patients who had trismus preoperatively were resolved of it in all cases after operation. Postoperative complications were absent. Conclusion The Gillies approach proved to be a relatively easy, safe, and reliable method, and its surgical outcomes was satisfactory in our experiences.
