  • Silver coated copper powders were prepared by a chemical reduction method with controlling the deposition process variables such as the feeding rate of the silver ionic solution and concentration of the reductants at room temperature. The characteristics of the products were evaluated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AA) and a 4 probe resistivity measurement system. The optimum condition of the preparation of Ag coated Cu powders was at 0.05 M of potassium sodium tartrate and 2 ml/min of the feeding rate of the silver ionic solution. Our method successfully produced dense, uniform, and well-dispersed Ag coated Cu powder of $2{\sim}2.5{\mu}m$ witha silver layer of 100~200 nm. Additionally, we found that thespecific resistivity of the 30 wt.% Ag coated Cu powder was similar to that of pure silver, so that the composite powder could be used as an alternative electromagnetic shielding material for silver.

  • Low dielectric Mullite/Glass composites for substrates were fabricated by mullite by synthesized from kaolin and alumina, and borosilicate glass. By the liquid-sintering, the composites were densified at low sintering temperature in air, allowing confiring with Cu, Ag, Au and Ag-Pd. Crystallization of the borosilicate glass was not occurred. The mullite/50 wt% glass composites fired between 950 and $1100^{\circ}C$ showed good properties for high-performed substrate, such as low dielectric constant (5.2~5.4, at 1MHz), low coefficient of thermal expansion (5.3~$5.7{\times}10^{-6}{\cdot}^0C^{-1}$), and bending strength of 130 MPa.

  • A novel method of fabricating polythiophene-gold nanoparticle composite film electrodes for photoelectric conversion is demonstrated. The method includes electrodeposition of gold and electropolymerization of 2,2'-bithiophene onto an indium-tin-oxide (ITO) electrode. First, electrodeposition of gold onto the ITO electrode was carried out with various repetition times of pulsed applied potential (0.25 s at -2.0 V vs. Ag/AgCl) in an aqueous solution of $HAuCl_4$. Significant progress of the number density of deposited gold nanoparticles was confirmed from scanning electron micrographs, from 4 (1 time) to 25% (15 times). Next, electropolymerization of 2,2'-bithiophene onto the above ITO electrode was performed under controlled charge condition (+1.4 V vs. Ag wire, 15 $mC/cm^2$). Structural characterization of as-fabricated films were carried out by spectroscopic and electron micrographic methods. Photocurrent responses from the sample film electrodes were investigated in the presence of electron acceptors (methyl viologen and oxygen). Photocurrent intensities increased with increasing the density of deposited gold nanoparticles up to ~10%, and tended to decrease above it. It suggests that the surplus gold nanoparticles exhibit quenching effects rather than enhancement effects based on localized electric fields induced by surface plasmon resonance of the deposited gold nanoparticles.

  • In this study, detectors characteristics for simultaneous counting of alpha and beta ray in a pipe were estimated. The detector were composed of thin ZnS(Ag) scintillator and plastic detector. The scintillator for counting alpha particles has been applied a polymer composite sheet, having a double layer structure of an inorganic scintillator ZnS(Ag) layer adhered onto a polymer sub-layer. The other for counting beta particles used a commercially available plastic scintillator. It was confirmed that the detectors were suitable for counting the in-pipe contamination.

  • To meet the demands for use in extremely abrasive and corrosive environments, a new material was developed. The VeKo25Cr distinguishes itself through specifically selected amounts of carbon and carbide forming elements such as Cr, Mo, V, W and Nb. The alloy is based on a Fe matrix. The strength after heat treatment and the wear and corrosion properties are compared to those of other materials. VeKo25Cr can be combined with easy-to-process materials such that the difficult handling is minimized to those places on the piece most subjected to operational wear.

  • In this work, Ag3PO4/In2S3 nanocomposites with low loading of In2S3 (5-15 wt %) are fabricated by two step chemical precipitation approach. The microstructure, composition and improved photoelectrochemical properties of the as-prepared composites are studied by X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), photocurrent density, EIS and amperometric i-t curve analysis. It is found that most of In2S3 nanoparticles are deposited on the surfaces of Ag3PO4. The as-prepared Ag3PO4/In2S3 composite (10 wt%) is selected and investigated by SEM and TEM, which exhibits special morphology consisting of lager size substrate (Ag3PO4), particles and some nanosheets (In2S3). The introduction of In2S3 is effective at improving the charge separation and transfer efficiency of Ag3PO4/In2S3, resulting in an enhancement of photoelectric behavior. The origin of the enhanced photoelectrochemical activity of the In2S3-modified Ag3PO4 may be due to the improved charge separation, photocurrent stability and oriented electrons transport pathways in environment and energy applications.

  • Existing toxicity assessment researches were rarely studied on assessment of the abnormal behavior that affecting survival. Therefore, the study used anti-predator response of amphibians larvae, based on behavioral understanding, to assess toxicity in fullerene nanowhisker(FNW) and fullerene nanowhisker-silver nanoparticle composites(FNW-Ag). The experiment was conducted by dividing the groups not exposed to nanomaterials and exposed to nanomaterials at five concentrations(FNW: $10{\mu}g/ml$, FNW: $100{\mu}g/ml$, FNW: $500{\mu}g/ml$ FNW-Ag: $10{\mu}g/ml$, FNW: $50{\mu}g/ml$). As a result, there were no differences in normal activity except those exposed to concentrations of FNW-Ag $50{\mu}g/ml$, but there were statistically significant differences in anti-predator response except those exposed to concentrations of FNW $10{\mu}g/ml$. That is, exposed of nanomaterials does not affect ordinary movements, but analyses based on behavioral understandings have shown that it has an influence on the anti-predator response. It is therefore considered necessary to have animal behavioral analysis method performed in the assessment of eco-toxic experiment.

  • Purpose: The aim of this research was to evaluate the influence of different surface treatments on the shear bond strength of zirconia ceramic to composite resin. Methods: Seventy two cylinder-shape (diameter: 5 mm; height: 12 mm) blocks of experimental industrially manufactured Y-TZP ceramic were abraded with $125{\mu}m\;Al_2O_3$ particles and randomly divided into 4 groups. All the materials were categorized as group Gc(control group - composite resin veneering on zirconia surface), Gr - composite resin veneering after surface treatment of Rocatec system (3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany) group; Gz - composite resin veneering after surface treatment of Zirconia primer (Z-primer, Bisco, U.S.A) group; Gm - composite resin veneering after surface treatment of zirconia primer (Monobond plus, ivoclar vivadent AG, Liechtenstein) group. Two different zirconia primers and Rocatec system were used to zirconia cylinders (n=16) onto the zirconia surface. Zirconia specimens, polished and roughened, were pretreated and composite bilayer cylinders bonded using conventional adhesive techniques. Results: Shear bond strengths were analyzed using single-factor ANOVA(p<0.05). Bond strength values achieved after airbone particle abrasion and zirconia surface pre-treatments(p<0.05). Conclusion: Shear bond strength tests denmonstrated that zirconia primer is a viable method to improved bond strength between zirconia ceramic core and veneering composites.
