This study examined the effects of adding Zn to Sn-3.5Ag solder on the microstructure changes and behavior of interface reaction of the solder joint with Cu substrate. The solder/Cu joints were examined with microscope to observe the characteristics of microstructure changes and interfacial reaction layer with aging treatment for up to 120 days at $150^{\circ}C$. Results of the microstructure changes showed that the microstructures were coarsened with aging treatment, while adding 1%Zn suppresses coarsening microstructures. The Sn-3.5Ag/Cu had a fast growth rate of the reaction layer in comparison with the Sn-3.5Ag-1Zn at the aging temperature of $150^{\circ}C$. Through the SEM/EDS analysis of solder joint, it was proved that intermetallic layer was $Cu_6Sn_5$ phase and aged specimens showed that intermetallic layer grew in proportion to $t^{1/2}$, and the precipitate of $Ag_3Sn$ occur to both inner layer and interface of layer and solder. In case of Zn-containing composite solder, $Cu_6Sn_5$ phase formed at the side of substrate and Cu-Zn-Sn phase formed at the other side in double layer. It seems that Cu-Zn-Sn phase formed at solder side did a roll of banrier to suppress the growth of the $Cu_6Sn_5$ layer during the aging treatment.
An HRP immobilized carbon paste electrode, which was bound by EPDM, was newly fabricated and its electrochemical properties were investigated for the purpose of validating the new possibility for the practical use of biosensor. In the experimental range of substrate concentration, Lineweaver-Burk plot of the signal showed a good linearity. This means that HRP was embedded effectively to preserve its identity in the bulk of composite electrode materials and EPDM is a recommendatory binder. When the electrode was run at low operating potential($0.0\sim-1.0$ V vs. Ag/AgCl), it showed a high sensitivity and a good reproducibility. Especially the mechanical stability of the dried rubber was a remarkable breakthrough to get over a difficulty in putting the carbon-paste electrode bound with silicon oil to real use.
Ti-In-Zn-O (TIZO)/Ag/TIZO multilayer transparent electrodes were prepared on glass substrates at room temperature using RF/DC magnetron sputtering. Obtained multilayer structure comprising TIZO/Ag/TIZO (10 nm/10 nm/40 nm) with the total thickness of 60 nm showed a transmittance of 86.5% at 650 nm and a sheet resistance of 8.1 Ω/□. The multilayer films were expected to be applicable for use in energy-saving smart window based on polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) because of their transmittance properties to effectively block infrared rays (heat rays). We investigated the effects of the content ratio of prepolymer, the thickness of the PDLC coating layer, and the ultraviolet (UV) light intensity on electro-optical properties, and the surface morphology of polyester acrylate-based PDLC systems using new TIZO/Ag/TIZO transparent conducting electrodes. A PDLC cell with a thickness of 15 ㎛ PDLC layer photocured at an UV intensity of 1.5 mW/cm2 exhibited good driving voltage, favorable on-state transmittance, and excellent off-haze. The LC droplets formed on the surface of the polymer matrix of the PDLC composite had a size range of 1 to 3 ㎛ capable of efficiently scattering incident light. Also, the PDLC-based smart window manufactured using TIZO/Ag/TIZO multi-layered transparent electrodes in this study exhibited a light brown, which will have an advantage in terms of aesthetics.
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of metal primers on the bonding of dental alloys and veneer resin. Polyvinylpyrrolidone solution's tarnish effect on bonding strength was also investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Disk-shape metal specimens (diameter 8 mm, thickness 1.5 mm) were made from 3 kinds of alloy (Co-Cr, Ti and Au-Ag-Pd alloy) and divided into 4 groups per each alloy. Half specimens (n=12 per group) in tarnished group were immersed into polyvinylpyrrolidone solution for 24 hours. In Co-Cr and Ti-alloy, Alloy Primer (MDP + VBATDT) and MAC-Bond II (MAC-10) were applied, while Alloy Primer and V-Primer (VBATDT) were applied to Au-Ag-Pd alloys. After surface treatment, veneering composite resin were applied and shear bond strength test were conducted. RESULTS. Alloy Primer showed higher shear bond strength than MAC-Bond II in Co-Cr alloys and Au-Ag-Pd alloy (P<.05). However, in Ti alloy, there was no significant difference between Alloy Primer and MAC-Bond II. Tarnished Co-Cr and Au-Ag-Pd alloy surfaces presented significantly decreased shear bond strength. CONCLUSION. Combined use of MDP and VBATDT were effective in bonding of the resin to Co-Cr and Au-Ag-Pd alloy. Tarnish using polyvinylpyrrolidone solution negatively affected on the bonding of veneer resin to Co-Cr and Au-Ag-Pd alloys.

The structural, magnetic and magnetotransport properties of $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}MnO_3$: $Ag_x$ (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4) composites were investigated systematically. X-ray and EDX analysis indicated that Ag is not substituted into the main $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}MnO_3$ phase and remains an additive to the second phase at the grain boundary. The Curie temperature first decreased from 269 K for x = 0 to 257 K for x = 0.1 and then remained nearly unchanged with increasing Ag content. For the x > 0.1 samples, a second transition temperature ($T_{MI2}$) was observed in the resistance curves. At temperatures below 150 K, a significant enhancement in MR was observed while high temperature MR decreased with increasing Ag content. The maximum MR was observed to be 55% in the x = 0.4 sample at 10 K and a 6T magnetic field, this value is larger than that of pure $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}MnO_3$ (53% at 265 K and 6 T). In addition, at low fields (H < 1T), a sharp increase in the MR was observed.
Cu-Salen complex was prepared and attached into chitosan (Cs) polymer backbone. Nanocomposite of the synthesized polymer was prepared with functionalized carbon nano-particles (Cs-Cu-sal/C) to modify the electrode surface. The surface morphology of (Cs-Cu-sal/C) nanocomposite film showed a homogeneous distribution of carbon nanoparticles within the polymeric matrix. The cyclic voltammogram of the modified electrode exhibited a redox behavior at -0.1 V vs. Ag/AgCl (3 M KCl) in 0.1 M PB (pH 7) and showed an excellent hydrogen peroxide reduction activity. The Cs-Cu-sal/C electrode displays a linear response from $5{\times}10^{-6}$ to $5{\times}10^{-4}M$, with a correlation coefficient of 0.993 and detection limit of $0.9{\mu}M$ (at S/N = 3). The sensitivity of the electrode was found to be $0.356{\mu}A\;{\mu}M^{-1}\;cm^{-2}$.
Y-Ra-Cu-0 oxide superconductors were fabricated by the sinter-forging method to make the critical current density improve through controlling of microstructure and crystal texture. The grain alignment of oxide superconductor was formed by the sinter-forging process and it's c-axis orientation was parallel to the press direction. The orientation factor of texture increased with sinking temperature and pressure, and also grain alignment was improved by the addition of Ag. As for the sinterforged Y-Ba-Cu-O/Ag sample, the $T_c$(on-set) was not almost varied with the sinter-forging temperature, but $T_c\;^{zero}$ decreased more or less at high sinter-forging temperatures. In addition, it was observed that added-Ag was mainly distributed along the grain boundar~es in the (123) matrix, resulting in the densification of microstructure. From these results, i t was thought that the improvement of $J_c$ over 2000A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ was attributed to the texture, densification of microstructure, and (123) grain growth due to the Ag addition.
Novel porous composite ceramic bone scaffolds composed of biodegradable PHBV(polyhydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate) and TA(toothapatite) have been fabricated for bone tissue engineering by a modified solvent casting and particulate leach-ing method with salt-contained heat compression technique. The results of this study suggest that the PHBV-TA composite scaffold, especially the scaffold containing 30 weight$\%$ of TA may be a good candidate far bone tissue engineering of non-load bearing area in oral and maxillofacial region.
To improve the reliability of solder joints, a composite solder which consists of solder matrix and intermetallic reinforcements was manufactured by a new method. The cast ingot of Sn-6.9Cu-2.9Ag alloy had primary Cu6Sn5 intermetallics in the form of dendrites. After rolling the ingot, the intermetallic dendrites were crushed into fine particles and distributed uniformly throughout the solder matrix. As the rolled strips became thinner, the average size of the crushed particles reached a critical size which did not decrease any more by further rolling. The critical size was nearly the same as the average width of intermetallic dendrite trunk. The crushed intermetallic particles did not melt and remained in solid state during reflow soldering due to their high meltingterm-perature. The coarsening and gravitational segregation of the particles were observed during reflow soldering.
