This study was carried to select the tolerance in rice varieites for ozone treatment through comparing SOD, POD and stomata resistance. In SOD Acivity, Sangnambatbyeo showed the highest activity on 1 hr after ozone treatment and after 24 hr, SOD activity was decreased. SOD activity of Hangangchalbyeo was not different in observed all times after ozone treatment. In POD activity, Hangangchalbyeo, Sangnambatbyeo and Ilpumbyeo were similar to POD activity but Baeknabyeo was the lowest activity on 1 hr after ozone treatment. Also, all varieties represnted the highest activity (above 90 %) an 24 hr after ozone treatment. In stomata resistance, Sangnambatbyeo was decreased stomata resistance on 1 hr after ozone treatment. Hangangchalbyeo, Sangnambatbyeo and Baekna were decreased stomata resistiance on 24 hr after ozone treatment except Ilpumbyeo.
This study was designed to investigate the effects of Ca and/or vitamin D supplementation for 53 weeks on bone metabolism in postmenopausal women. The subjects were healthy 18 women aged from 59 to 69 years old. They were divided into three groups : placebo, Ca(1000mg/day) supplementation and Ca(1000mg/day) with vitamin D(12.5$\mu\textrm{g}$/day) supplementation. During the experimental periods except for metabolic studies, the subjects ate their usual diets and the use of drugs as well as excessive exercise was prohibited. Metabolic studies were conducted in the 1st week and in the 53rd week of the experimental periods. The subjects ate experimental diets which consisted of 1787.3kcal, 69.6g of protein, 561.5mg of Ca and 1078.6mg of P daily during both of the metabolic study periods. The results were summarized as follows; 1) Bone density of the second lumbar spine and trochanter measured after treatment decreased significantly in control group as compared with pre-experimental level(p<0.05). On the contrary, bone density of femoral neck and Ward's triangle in Ca group and the second lumbar spine in Ca.Vit D group increased significantly after treatment. 2) Serum PTH and calcitonin levels did not show any significant differences among groups before and after treatment. But serum PTH level increased significantly in all groups after treatment(P<0.05). 3) Serum Ca and P levels did not show any significant differences among groups before and after treatment. But serum Ca level increased significantly in all groups after treatment (P<0.05) and serum P level decreased significantly in Ca.Vit D group after treatment(P<0.05). 4) Mean 24-hours fecal Ca excretion of Ca group was the highest in the 1st week of treatment(P<0.01), and that of control group was the lowest in the 53rd week of treatment(P<0.01). Fecal Ca excretion increased significantly in control and Ca.Vit D group in the 53rd week of treatment(P<0.05). Urinary Ca excretion did not show any significant differences among groups in the 1st and 53rd week of treatment, but that of Ca.Vit D group was the highest the 1st week of treatment(P<0.01). In the 53rd week of treatment Ca and Ca.Vit D group showed positive Ca balance, but control group showed negative Ca balance. The above results showed that it will be difficult to prevent degenerative bone loss without Ca and/or vitamin D supplementation in postmenopausal women eating Korean usual diets.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of oriental diagnosis and treatment for dysmenorrhea patients on lower abdominal temperature and Skin Resistance Variability(SRV). Methods: We studied twenty-five dysmenorrhea patients, who visited Oriental Medicine Hospital of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ University for 10 months(Sep. 2011~Jun. 2012). Patients with organic disease such as endometriosis, uterine myoma and pelvic inflammatory disease were excluded from this study. We prescribed 3 types of treatments, herbal medicine, acupuncture, and moxibustion, for one menstrual cycle. Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging(DITI), 7-Zone-Diagnostic System(CP-6000A), VAS(Visual analog scale) and MVRS(Multidimensional verbal rating scale) were conducted before and after the treatment. The result of DITI, 7-Zone-Diagnostic System, VAS and MVRS before and after treatment were compared in order to objectively assess the therapeutic effect. Results: When we compared the results of DITI, CV4 temperature after treatment was increased compared with that of before, and temperature difference between CV12 and CV4 after treatment was decreased compared with that of before. But there was no significant difference. When we compared the results of 7-Zone-Diagnostic System at 1st and 2nd trial, the height of 1~5 area was lower than that of before. And at 1st and 2nd trial, the height of 6, 7 area was higher than that of before, but there were no significant difference in most. When we compared the results of VAS and MVRS, VAS and MVRS after treatment was significantly decreased compared with that of before(p<0.01). Conclusions: This study shows that oriental diagnosis and treatment for dysmenorrhea patients affects the results of DITI. Further study will be needed.
This study was performed to assess the efficacy of Kinesiotape for the frozen shoulder patients. The subjects of this study were 17 patients with frozen shoulder who visited the out-patient department of the physical therapy, Pyongchon Sacret Heart Hospital, Hallim University, from July. 3, 2000 through August 12, 2000. To find out the effect of kinesiotape therapy, we sampled 8 patients treated with electrotherapy and therapeutic exercise (control group), and 9 patients treated with electrotherapy and therapeutic exercise with kinesiotape(experimental group). All patients were treated 3 days a week for 5 weeks. The results after 5-week treatment, compared with before treatment, were as follows: 1. The increase in range of motion in the electrotherapy and therapeutic exercise with kinesiotape after 5-week treatment was very significant(p<0.01). 2 The increase in range of motion in the electrotherapy and therapeutic exercise after 5-week treatment was significant (p<0.05). 3. The pain of decrease in the electrotherapy and therapeutic exercise with kinesiotape after 5-week treatment was very significant (p<0.01). 4. The pain of decrease in the electrotherapy and therapeutic exercise with kinesiotape 5-week treatment was significant(p<0.05). 5. The electrotherapy and therapeutic exercise with kinesiotape was more effective in increasing the range of motion on shoulder than the electrotherapy and therapeutic exercise after 5-week treatment(p<0.01). 6. The pain of decrease in between electrotherapy. therapeutic exercise with kinesiotape electrotherapy and therapeutic exercise after 5-week treatment was no significant.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of a Korean Medicine Treatment on 89 severe atopic dermatitis patients all through 12 months. Methods : The degree of atopic dermatitis was measured in Objective SCORAD Index (OSI) with photos of patients. Then, the OSI score was estimated according to gender, age and intensity. Results : 1. The ratio of male to female was 41.57 : 58.43. The 24.72% of patients were in 0~11 year-old group, 16.85% were in 12~18 year-old group and 58.43% were in the group above 19 years old. 2. The initial OSI score was 64.43 and the final was 37.03 after 12 months. After 3, 6, 9, 12 months, the OSI score was significantly lower than the initial visit. 3. There was no significant difference between male and female patients on age, OSI scores and OSI improvements. 4. The patients who treated acupuncture were significantly older then who not treated. The OSI improvement had no significant difference whether treated with acupuncture or not. 5. There was no significant difference among 3 different age groups on initial OSI scores. The OSI improvement of 0~11 year-old group was significantly higher than the other groups after 12 month treatment. 6. The OSI score of 97.75% was decreased after 12 month treatment compared to initial visit. 7. After 12 month treatment, the distribution of severe atopic dermatitis was decreased from 100% to 37.08%. 8. There was no significant difference betweent steroid group and non-steroid group on OSI scores at initial visit and after 12 month treatment. Conclusions : The OSI Score of severe atopic dermatitis patients was decreased on the significant rate with Korean medicine treatment for 12 months.
In this study, the backs with a hair cut of 6-week-old healthy ICR male mice were once exposed to a dose of $400\;mJ/cm^2$ UVB. An acute dermal inflammation was observed, and the certified 100% pure and natural lavender essential oil were applied to the UVB-exposed mice skin twice a day. It was observed that the mice exposed to UVB resulted in an acute inflammation, and when treated with lavender oil the degree of inflammation was much alleviated, and the inflamed skins of both the control and lavender oil-treatment groups were cured almost completely after 6 days of the UVB exposure. At 24 hours after UVB exposure, the epidermal keratinocytes in the control group showed a cell-membrane damage with the destruction of intercellular junctions, agglutination of tonofilaments within the cytoplasm and nucleus damage, while the lavender oil-treatment group had much less cell damage than the control group. While the control group showed a significant increase (p<0.05) in the activity of XO up to 144 hours, the lavender oil-treatment group did not show any significant increase except for 48 hours after the UVB exposure. Both the control and lavender essential oil-treatment groups had a significant decrease in the activities of CAT and SOD up to 96 hours. Particularly, the CAT activity was significantly lower(p<0.05) in the lavender oil-treatment group than the control group up to 48 hours, and higher than the control group at and after 96 hours. The GST activity was significantly decreased in both the control and lavender oil-treatment groups up to 96 hours after the UVB exposure except for the control group at 24 hours, and that of the lavender oil-treatment group was higher than the control group at and after 96 hours. Therefore, it is assumed that the application of the lavender oil to the ultraviolet-damaged mice skin can be effective in treatment for the damaged skin.

D3 tools steel and 440C stainless steel (SS) are normally being employed for application such as knife blade and cutting tools. These steels are iron alloys which have high carbon and high chromium content. In this study, lab work focused on the microstructural and corrosion behavior of D3 tools steel and 440C SS after went through heat treatment processes. Heat treatments for both steels were started with normalizing at 1020 ℃, continue with hardening at 1000 ℃followed by oil quenching. Cryogenic treatment was carried out in liquid nitrogen for 24 hours. The addition of cryogenic heat treatment is believed to increase the hardness and corrosion resistance for steels. Both samples were then tempered at two different tempering temperatures, 160 ℃ and 426 ℃. For corrosion test, the samples were immersed in NaCl solution for 30 days to study the corrosion behavior of D3 tool steel and 440C SS after heat treatment. The mechanical properties of these steels have been investigated using Rockwell hardness machine before heat treatment, after heat treatment (before corrosion) and after corrosion test. Microstructure observation of samples was carried out by scanning electron microscopy. The corrosion rate of these steels was calculated after the corrosion test completed. From the results, the highest hardness is observed for D3 tool steel which tempered at 160 ℃(54.1 HRC). In terms of microstructural analysis, primary carbide and pearlite in the as-received samples transform to tempered martensite and cementite after heat treatment process. From this research, for corrosion test, heat treated 440C SS sample tempered with 426 ℃possessed the excellent corrosion resistance with corrosion rate 0.2808 mm/year.
As emission gas regulation of deisel vehicles is strengthened to Euro-6, It becomes difficult to deal with NOx regulated value mainly by EGR without additional after-treatment system. In addition, RDE(Real Driving Emissions) test will be introduced after september 2017. Therefore, It is essential to develop the after-treatment of diesel vehicles which reduce NOx emissions. It is possible to use DOC, DPF, LNT or DOC, DPF and SCR as a after-treatment system for reducing NOx. However, It is expected that the SCR will be applied widely because LNT alone does not have sufficient NOx purification efficiency. In this study, It tried to analyze the efficiency of reducing NOx emissions during the mode test by attaching a NOx sensor to test vehicle. As a result, It was confirmed that NOx emissions was significantly reduce through the after-treatment system from engine. And the NOx reduction efficiency of SCR was about 4.5 times better than DOC, DPF.
The monthly ambulatory treatment days in newly detected hypertension group and known hypertension group were analyzed. The population was identified through the records of screening examination given by Korea Medical Insurance Corporation during the period from April to July, 1986. From the records of screening examination, 11,614 hypertensive patients were identified. By random sampling,959 patients were selected : among them, 544 fell under the category of known hypertension group and the other 415 fell under the newly detected hypertension group. The monthly ambulatory treatment days of these patients during the period from the April, 1985 to September, 1987 were analyzed in order to compare the exents of medical care utilization as well as to define and analyze the determinants responsible for the ambulatory treatment days between the two groups. The following results were obtained. 1) In the known hypertension group, no statistically significant changes in the ambulatory treatment days was observed after, in comparision to before, the screening examination. However, in the newly detected hypertension group the medical care utilization increased after the screening examination because of hypertension. 2) The ambulatory treatment days for hypertension of the known hypertension was statistically significant and higher than that of the newly detected hypertension group after screening examination. 3) There was no statistically significant change in the ambulatory treatment days in association with diseases other than hypertension in either group before and after the screening examination. 4) There was no statistically significant variable responsible for ambulatory treatment days in the known hypertension group. However, the income was a statistically significant variable in the newly detected hypertension group. 5) After the screening examination, the variables determining the ambulatory treatment days were the age of the patient and the diastolic blood pressure in the known hypertension group. These variables responsible for 2.02% of the total ambulatory treatment days. In the newly detected hypertension group, the income was a statistically significant variable which was responsible for 2.10% of total ambulatory treatment days. The above results satisfied the hypothesis that there would be no significant changes in the ambulatory treatment days before and after the screening examination in the known hypertension group. Also the hypothesis that there would be no significant change in the exents of medical care utilization for the diseases other than hypertension before and after the screening examination in either group was satisfied Also the medical care utilization was significantly higher in the known hypertension group than the newly detected hypertension group after the screening examination. This finding satisfied the hypothesis. This study was limited by the lack of considering fully the variables reponsible for the clinical symptoms of hypertension as well as for the individual characteristics. Thus, the result of this study are not fully adequate to define the determinants responsible for the exents of medical care utilization. In the future studies on medical rare utilization, additional variables should be considered.
To elucidate the photolysis characteristics of the insecticide imidacloprid in the environment, $[^{14}C]$imidacloprid was treated into water and paddy soil-water system. In water system, the amount of $^{14}C$-radioactivity distributed in aqueous phase was rapidly increased up to 80% of total $^{14}C$ in water during 7 days of exposure to sunlight. Also, the amounts of imidacloprid in water at day 0 and 3 days after treatment were 1.2461 and 0.8594 mg/kg, respectively, not being detected 7 days after treatment, indicating rapid degradation of imidacloprid in water by sunlight. One photodegradation product, imidacloprid urea, in which the $N-NO_2$ moiety of imidacloprid was replaced by oxygen, was detected from water in water and water-paddy systems. The amount of the metabolite detected from water in water system was 0.0112 mg/kg 1 day after treatment and reached the top concentration of 0.0391 mg/kg 7 days after treatment. In case of water-paddy system, its amount was 0.0117 mg/kg 1 day after treatment and reached the highest concentration of 0.0259 mg/kg 3 days after treatment. Rapid transformation of imidacloprid into polar compounds continued until 7 days after treatment, considering that 80% of $^{14}C$ in water distributed in aqueous phase 7 days after treatment, amount of imidacloprid was 1.6538 mg/kg at day 0 and 0.8785 mg/kg 1 day after treatment, not being detected after 15 days, indicating rapid degradation of imidacloprid in water-paddy soil system by sunlight. The direct degradation of imidacloprid to imidacloprid urea would be a major photodegradation pathway in water and water-paddy soil systems.
