As current and future automobile emission regulations become more stringent, the research on flow distribution for an exhaust manifold and close-coupled catalyst(CCC) has become an interesting and remarkable subjects. The design of a CCC and exhaust manifold is a formidable task due to the complexity of the flow distribution caused by the pulsating flows from piston motion and engine combustion. Transient flow at the exhaust manifold can be analyzed with various computational fluid dynamics(CFD) tools. However, the results of such simulations must be verified with appropriate experimental data from real engine operating condition. In this study, an experimental approach was performed to investigate the flow distribution of exhaust gases for conventional cast types and stainless steel bending types of a four-cylinder engine. The pressure distribution of each exhaust sub-component was measured using a simulated dynamic flow bench and five-hole pitot probe. Moreover, using the results of the pitot tube measurement at the exit of the CCC, the flow distribution for two types of manifolds(cast type and bending type) was compared in terms of flow uniformity. Based on these experimental techniques, this study can be highly applicable to the design and optimization of exhaust for the better use of catalytic converters to meet the PZEV emission regulation.
A spike attached to a blunt nosed body significantly alters its flow field and influences the aerodynamic coefficients at hypersonic speed. The basic body is an axisymmetric, with a hemisphere nose followed by a cylindrical portion. Five different types of spikes, namely, conical aerospike, hemisphere aerospike, flat-face aerospike, hemisphere aerodisk and flat-face aerodisk are attached to the basic body in order to assess the aerodynamic characteristic. The spiked blunt body without the aerospike or aerodisk has been set to be a basic model. The coefficients of drag, lift and pitching moment were measured with and without blunt spike body for the length-to-diameter ratio (L/D) of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0, at Mach 6 and angle of attack up to 8 degrees using a strain gauge balance. The measured forces and moment data are employed to determine the relative performance of the aerodynamic with respect to the basic model. A maximum of 77 percent drag reduction was achieved with hemisphere aerospike of L/D = 2.0. The comparison of aerodynamic coefficients between the basic model and the spiked blunt body reveals that the aerodynamic drag and pitching moment coefficients decrease with increasing the L/D ratio and angle of attack but the lift coefficient has increasing characteristics.
In this paper, we develop the ground risk model of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operation to quantify the ground risk when the UAV falls to the ground during the intended operation in case of UAV failure. The ground risk is computed by using the UAV failure probability, the probability of impact a person when UAV falls to the ground, the probability of fatality when UAV strikes the person. We mathematically derive each probability to evaluate the ground risk of UAV operation. Also, the population density map, building to land ratio map, car traffic database is used to estimate the number of people exposed to collision with UAV. Finally, we assumed the operations of a UAV with two paths in Daejeon city and evaluate the ground risk of each UAV operations.
The spanwise growth of turbulence structures in turbulent pipe flow was investigated using the direct numerical simulation data of Re𝜏 = 544, 934 and 3008. Two-point correlations and pre-multiplied energy spectra of streamwise velocity fluctuations were examined along the spanwise direction. The arclength direction is defined as r𝛳, which is useful for an analogy with the spanwise direction for channels or boundary layers; here, r and 𝛳 are the radial distance from the core and the azimuthal angles, respectively. Both analyses showed that the arclength scales increased with increasing the wall-normal distance. It showed that the coherent structures were confined in the core region due to the crowding effect of a circular pipe geometry. The pipe flow simulation could describe a realistic geometrical flow along the azimuthal direction, unlike the simulations of turbulent channel or boundary layer flow using periodic boundary conditions along the spanwise direction. The present results provided the spanwise organization of energy-containing motions over a broad range of scales in turbulent pipe flow.

We introduce tightly-coupled GNSS-LiDAR-Inertial state estimator, which is capable of SLAM (Simultaneously Localization and Mapping) and autonomous driving. Long term drift is one of the main sources of estimation error, and some LiDAR SLAM framework utilize loop closure to overcome this error. However, when loop closing event happens, one's current state could change abruptly and pose some safety issues on drivers. Directly utilizing GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) positioning information could help alleviating this problem, but accurate information is not always available and inaccurate vertical positioning issues still exist. We thus propose our method which tightly couples raw GNSS measurements into LiDAR-Inertial SLAM framework which can handle satellite positioning information regardless of its uncertainty. Also, with NLOS (Non-light-of-sight) satellite signal handling, we can estimate our states more smoothly and accurately. With several autonomous driving tests on AGV (Autonomous Ground Vehicle), we verified that our method can be applied to real-world problem.
The objective of this paper is to compute entire flow field over Apollo-II, Aerospace Reentry Demonstrator (ARD), Orbital Experiment (OREX) with sharp shoulder and rounded shape shoulder and Space Recovery Experiment (SRE) at different flare-cone half-angle of 20° and 35°. This paper addresses numerical solutions of the compressible three-dimensional Euler equations on hexahedral meshes for a freestream Mach 6 and at an angle of incidence 5°. Furthermore, spatial discretization is accomplished by a cell centred finite volume formulation solution and advanced in time by an explicit multi-stage Runge-Kutta method. The flow field characteristics, distribution of surface pressure coefficient and Mach number on fore-body and aft-body are presented as a function of the geometrical parameters of many reentry capsules. The surface pressure variation is numerically integrated to obtain the aerodynamic drag and compared well with impact theory. The present numerical study has observed the significant dependence of the blunt body and the aft-body geometry of the vehicle and can be used to study atmospheric conditions during re-entry trajectory. The numerical analysis reveals the significant influence of capsule geometry on the flow characteristics of the mechanism of upstream and structure of the flow near the wake region and aerodynamic drag coefficient.
In almost industries, such as the logistics industry, marine fisheries, agriculture, industry, and services, small unmanned aerial vehicles are used for aerial photographing or closing flight in areas where human access is difficult or CCTV is not installed. Also, based on the information of small unmanned aerial photographing, application research is actively carried out to efficiently perform surveillance, control, or management. In order to carry out tasks in a mission-based manner in which the set tasks are assigned and the tasks are automatically performed, the small unmanned aerial vehicles must not only fly steadily but also be able to charge the energy periodically, In addition, the unmanned aircraft need to land automatically and precisely at certain points after the end of the mission. In order to accomplish this, an automatic precision landing method that leads landing by continuously detecting and recognizing a marker located at a landing point from a video shot of a small UAV is required. In this paper, it is shown that accurate and stable automatic landing is possible even if simple template matching technique is applied without using various recognition methods that require high specification in using low cost general purpose small unmanned aerial vehicle. Through simulation and actual experiments, the results show that the proposed method will be made good use of industrial fields.

Aerodynamic force measurements and phase-locked PIV study were carried out to check the bio-mimetic MAV applicability of a swift flight. Two-rotational DOF robotic wing model and blowing-type wind tunnel were employed. The amplitude of twist angle were ${\pm}0$, ${\pm}5$, ${\pm}10$, and ${\pm}20$ deg. and stroke angles were manipulated by simple harmonic function with out-of-phase in regards to the stroke motion. It is acknowledged that the time-varying lift coefficients in accordance with the change of the twist angle did not result in any noticeable differences, just the small decrease and delay. However, the drag exhibited that the small change of the twist angle can produce large thrust. These findings imply why a swift uses small twist angle during flight. The PIV results displayed that the delay of aerodynamic forces is highly associated with the vortical structures around the wing. It is therefore indicated that a process of designing a swift-based Micro Air Vehicle should take the twist angle into consideration, as the essential parameter.
As interest in microsatellites increases, research has been actively conducted recently on the performance and use, as well as the orbital design and deployment techniques, for the microsatellite constellations. The purpose of this study was to investigate orbital deployment techniques using thrust and differential atmospheric drag control (DADC) for the Walker-delta constellation. When using thrust, the time and thrust required for orbital deployment vary, depending on the separation speed and direction of the satellite with respect to the launch vehicle. A control strategy to complete the orbital deployment with limited performance of the propulsion system is suggested and it was analyzed. As a result, the relationship between the deployment period and the total thrust consumption was derived. It takes a relatively longer deployment time using differential air drag rather than consuming thrusts. It was verified that the satellites can be deployed only with differential air drag at a general orbit of a microsatellite constellation. The conclusion of this study suggests that the deployment strategy in this paper can be used for the microsatellite constellation.

As drones (also known as UAV) become popular with advanced information and communication technology (ICT), they have been utilized for various fields (agriculture, architecture, and so on). However, malicious attackers with advanced drones may pose a threat to critical national infrastructures. Thus, anti-drone systems have been developed to respond to drone threats. In particular, remote identification data (R-ID)-based UAV detection and identification systems that detect and identify illegal drones with R-ID broadcasted by drones have been developed, and are widely employed worldwide. However, this R-ID-based UAV detection/identification system is vulnerable to security due to wireless broadcast characteristics. In this paper, we analyze the security vulnerabilities of DJI Aeroscope, a representative example of the R-ID-based UAV detection and identification system, and propose a replay-attack-based neutralization method using the analyzed vulnerabilities. To validate the proposed method, it is implemented as a software program, and verified against four types of attacks in real test environments. The results demonstrate that the proposed neutralization method is an effective neutralization method for R-ID-based UAV detection and identification systems.
