Research on Deriving Requirements through Operational Scenarios and Interface Analysis of Future Logistics Transportation System based on Underground Tunnels (지하터널기반 미래물류 운송체계의 운영 시나리오 및 인터페이스 분석을 통한 요구사항 도출 연구)

  • As the demand for logistics services increases rapidly in modern society, the existing freight delivery system through road transportation is caused various problems such as traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions. To solve that, the development of an 'underground logistics tunnel-based cargo transportation system' is currently being considered in Korea. In order to build a new concept stable and safe logistics system, derive system design requirements and functional specifications, and reflect them at the development of target system. In this study, to make foundation for development of an "underground logistics tunnel-based cargo transportation system," define system components through analysis from a hierarchical perspective, and the functions of each component were analyzed and defined. We identified what interfaces the components have at each stage of the operating process. Lastly, we defined a detailed operation scenario based on the previously derived results, deriving target system functional requirements.

  • To carry out the evaluation of performance of railway product/system, 3 step verification process(design review-lab test-field test) should be done. In advanced countries, for the effective field test, test-only-oriented track have been constructed and used. In Korea, government announced "The construction plan of railroad test track" at 2009.06. This paper will summarize 'need of test track', 'technical meaning of test track', 'current status of foreign test track', 'fundamental plan and process strategy of Korea Railroad Test Track'. It is no need to say that the wisdom of all railroad related people is required for the successful construction and usage of Korea Railroad Test Track.

  • The Korean railroad has developed as a foundation of nation's nucleus network. Nowadays Korea has entered into a new era because of the operation of KTX(Korea Train Express). As an introduction of KTX, the Korean railroad system has advanced Korean style high speed rail(HSR-350x), which is based on transfer and own technology. It is expected that the Korean rail road system has the leading design and production ability. Korea is planning to develop its own high speed railroad system until 2007. So the present task is to initiate a strategic export method for the development and value-added of Korean high speed railroad system. Furthermore this study proposes the administrative and technical policy for the basic technical research and creativeness predominance.

  • As railroad industry face the new Renaissance era, effective and efficient maintenance methods for rolling stock operation are required with advanced railroad technology. All kinds of railroad systems such as high speed long distance train, metropolitan mass transit and light rail require systematic maintenance technology in order to maintain the safe railroad operation. Simulation models for detailed operations of the sample maintenance center are developed. In this study, standard maintenance procedures, layout, equipments and number of workers of Siheung Metropolitan Railroad Maintenance Rolling Stock Depot are considered. The proposed simulation models are developed using simulation package ARENA. Three simulation analysis using the developed simulation model are done. First, the bottleneck operation is identified. Second, the relationship between maintenance center size, number of workers and cycle time is analyzed. Lastly, the scheduling performances between PERT/CPM and Critical Chain Project Management(CCPM) are compared.

  • This paper presents an advanced calculation method of permissible current capacity on catenary system. If the permissible current calculation method used in electric power system is applied to electric railroad system, it is troublesome. Because electric load in catenary system varies periodically according to time. Therefore, this study proposes permissible current calculation method through heat equation according to time variation.

  • Transportations are representative sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. Advanced countries (especially, EU and Japan etc.) have performed several efforts to decrease GHG released from railroad. In this study, we investigated the reduction methods of GHG in railroad industry. The GHG emissions in railroad are mainly caused by the energy consumption during operation. Therefore, it is necessary to develop technologies for the increase of energy efficiency and the application of clean energy such as solar and wind energy instead of diesel. From these studies, we can establish various strategies to reduce GHG efficiently in Korean railroad.

  • In this study we deal with design procedures for the flywheel energy storage system that has the capacity to store the regenerative energy produced from the railway vehicles. The flywheel energy storage system (FESS) stores the regenerative electrical energy into the high speed rotational flywheel, by conversion the electrical energy into the mechanical rotational energy. Thus the FESS is composed of the energy conversion components, such as the motor and generator, mechanical support components, such as the rotational rotor, the magnetic bearings to support the rotor, and the digital controller to control the air gap between the rotor and the magnetic bearings. In this paper the design procedures for the rotor operating at the rigid mode and the magnetic bearings to support the rotational rotor without contact are presented.

Dynamic Behavior Evaluation of Pile-Supported Slab Track System by Centrifuge Model Test (원심모형 실험을 통한 궤도지지말뚝구조의 동적 거동 평가)

  • Dynamic centrifuge model test was conducted to evaluate the dynamic stability of the pile-supported slab track method during dynamic railway loading and earthquake loading. The centrifuge tests were carried out for various condition of embankment height and soft ground depth. Based on test results, we found that the bending moment was increased with embankment height and decreased with soft ground depth. In addition, it was confirmed that the pile-supported slab track system could have dynamic stability for short-period seismic loading. However, in case of long-period seismic loading, such as Hachinohe earthquake, the observed maximum bending moment reached to pile cracking moment at the return period of 2,400 year earthquake. The criterion of ratio between embankment height and soft ground depth was suggested for dynamic stability of pile-supported slab track system.

  • This paper presents an evaluation method that considers the weights of many characteristics of a public transportation system; this method facilitates the selection of suitable advanced transit system in a transportation investment plan. The method sets up twelve evaluation items separated by the following influence factors: users, community, government and operators. It then evaluates the advanced transportation system by analyzing the weights. For an empirical analysis, the urban advanced transportation systems for the main transit of small and medium sized cities were evaluated using the AHP method. The result revealed that the weight order is safety, rapidity and punctuality, convenience, and regional activation, and the priority order is steel wheel-type AGT, LIM, and rubber wheel-type AGT.

  • A great deal of development has been made in the field of railroad control in Korea. Like the recent High speed railroad (KTX) and the intercity light rail train (LRT) are being vigorously promoted. Therefore, in concert with the new railroad development projects, improved train control technics are being applied. Along with the focus on these newly developed advanced technologies the need for a reliable safety system for the safety of the passengers and railroad control personnel alike is being intensified. New safety facilities are continuously being developed in order to safely introduce and develop these new technologies. There is an urgent need for research and development of safety facilities for the implementation of the presently developed facilities as well as for the presently being used. Therefore, this research will study the safe operation of Korean railroad and the implementation situation of the class, functionality, ensured safety range etc. of the safety facilities for users and operators. In studying the material of the kinds of implemented safety facilities and technologies being used abroad we have researched into the most suitable direction of development of safety facilities for the Korean railroad environment.
