Economic and Environmental Impacts of Mass Tourism on Regional Tourism Destinations in Indonesia

  • The study examines economic and environmental impacts of mass tourism on regional tourism destinations, particularly the establishment of "Ten New Bali", in Indonesia. The sample is restricted to the period of time in which annual data is available and comparable among variables from 1980 to 2015 (36 observations). All of the time series data was collected and retrieved from the World Development Indicator database published by the World Bank. This study applies cointegrating regression analysis using the fully modified OLS, canonical cointegrating regression, and dynamic OLS. The results of the study suggest that 1) there is a long-run equilibrium relationship between tourism receipts, environmental degradation and economic growth in Indonesia, 2) tourism growth and agriculture land growth are positively related to an increase of total output in the short-run in Indonesia, and 3) arable land is significant at the 0.01 level, but forest rents and CO2 from transport are not significant in the short-run in Indonesia. The results confirm that arable land is negatively related to an increase of total output in Indonesia. That is, when tourism growth in the economy is getting realized it shows that the environmental degradation increases greatly in inverse in the model, eventually negative impacts to the environment.

Spillover Effects of Foreign Direct Investment Inflows and Exchange Rates on the Banking Industry in China

  • The study examines the magnitude of economic spillover and the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows on the efficiency of the bank industry in China. This study employs unit root tests, cointegration tests and cointegrating regression analysis, including fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS), canonical cointegrating regression (CCR) and dynamic OLS (DOLS) to test the proposed hypotheses. The sample is restricted to the period of time in which monthly data is available and comparable among variables for the period from January 2002 to October 2013 (142 observations). All of the time series data was collected and retrieved from the People's Bank of China, China Monthly Statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics of China, and International Financial Statistics database from International Monetary Fund. The results of the Johansen cointegration test suggest that there is a long-run equilibrium relationship between FDI inflows, foreign exchange rate and banks performance in China. The results of cointegrating regression analysis using FMOLS, CCR and DOLS suggest that M2 supply and FDI inflows are significant at the 0.01 level. The results confirm that FDI inflows in the banking sector are positively related to the increase of banks productivity and performance and short-term loans in China. However, the results suggest that Chinese Yuan currency exchange rate to U.S. dollar is not significant in the banking and financial industry of China.

  • 최근들어 CTI(Computer Telephony Integration) 기술은 영상 회의, 파일 전송, 음성 사서함, 자동 메시지 전송, 자동 재다이얼 기능 등의 전통적인 분야에서부터 통합 메시징 및 네트워크 팩스 분야에 이르기까지 다양한 분야에 걸쳐서 활용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 전화망을 이용한 CTI 응용분야로 대학에서 입시기간동안 수험생들의 전화 과중에 따른 업무와 학사 행정 서비스를 개선할 수 있는 CTI를 이용한 응용 시스템에 대하여 연구한다. 구현된 시스템은 최근 주목받고 있는 객체 모델링 기법(Object Modeling Technique)을 이용하여 데이터베이스를 설계하고, CTI 호출 제어 시스템을 이용하여 합격자 확인 자동 호출(Automatic Calling System), 합격자 발표 자동 안내(Automatic Response System) 등을 지원하도록 개발한다. 특히 합격자 자동 호출 시스템 구현시 합격 여부를 통지해 줄 때의 음성처리를 위하여 TTS(Text To speech) 모듈을 설계 구현한다.

  • Slope failures during heavy rainfall have resulted in death of life and economic loss. In recent years, the research on slope damage assessment using Geographical Information System(GIS) has been actively carried out by researchers of several goverment organizations and schools. The researchers in Highway and Transportation Technology Institute (HTTI) of Korea Highway Corporation has developed the GIS database(DB), including highway, rainfalls, soil or rock geometry, types of damage, etc. and have been working on the damage assessment of highway slopes. The DB has been established and summarized in two different ways, such as highway routes and administrative districts. Grid of rainfall intensity generated by maximum rainfalls of each administrative district has been devloped. It shows good correlation of slope damage with heavy rainfalls. Most of damaged slopes were found in the amount of 100 mm to 300 mm rainfalls.

  • 최근 이슈가 되고 있는 '빅 데이터'의 사회적 잠재성을 정부의 대국민 서비스와 연계지어, 정부의 행정서비스 혁신에 빅데이터의 사상이 기여할 수 있는 구체적 방안을 모색하였다. 특히 주민 생활공간과 정부 업무공간의 이원화가 초래한 정부 행정서비스의 본원적 한계를 행정 프로세스의 외부 확장을 통해 극복할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다. 또한 이로부터 제기될 수밖에 없는 선결과제, 즉 주민 공간의 각종 사물데이터를 어떻게 행정 데이터 영역에 편입할 것인가에 대한 논의를 포함하였다. 이로써 행정서비스 영역에 대한 빅데이터 기반 조성이 신고와 신청에 의존하던 수동적 행정서비스를 선제적으로 바꿔내는데 어떤 역할을 할 수 있는지에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다.

  • 본 연구는 교량과 터널에 관련된 각종 정보, 즉 도면, 대장 및 조서(도형, 비도형 자료)를 데이터베이스화하여 도로시설물의 능률적이고 과학적인 관리를 위한 시스템 구축에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 데이터베이스화의 가장 큰 목적은 도로시설물의 유지관리 및 보수시 자료의 신속, 정확한 수정과 보완으로 향후 합리적인 시설물 유지계획수립과 정보관리를 체계화하는데 있다. 본 연구에서 구축된 시설물관리시스템의 효용성을 검토하기 위해서 실제 행정관서에서 사용되고 있는 자료들을 적용해 본 결과 중요한 결론들을 도출하였다. 따라서 본 실험의 결과는 차후 보완연구를 통하여 국내의 각종 도로시설물관리를 위한 실용화에 크게 기대할 것으로 판단된다.

Developing an Alias Management Method based on Word Similarity Measurement for POI Application

  • As the need for the integration of administrative datasets and address information increases, there is also growing interest in POI (Point of Interest) data as a source of location information across applications and platforms. The purpose of this study is to develop an alias database management method for efficient POI searching, based on POI data representing position. First, we determine the attributes of POI alias data as it is used variously by individual users. When classifying aliases of POIs, we excluded POIs in which the typo and names are all in English alphabet. The attributes of POI aliases are classified into four categories, and each category is reclassified into three classes according to the strength of the attributes. We then define the quality of POI aliases classified in this study through experiments. Based on the four attributes of POI defined in this study, we developed a method of managing one POI alias through and integrated method composed of word embedding and a similarity measurement. Experimental results of the proposed POI alias management method show that it is possible to utilize the algorithm developed in this study if there are small numbers of aliases in each POI with appropriate POI attributes defined in this study.

가축분뇨 관리를 위한 통합환경정보시스템 발전방안 (A Study on Comprehensive Environmental Information System for Livestock Manure Management in Korea)

  • The Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry, and Ministry of Construction, Transportation and Maritime Affairs are in charge of livestock manure management. There are national statistics regarding the livestock industry such as the National Pollution Source Survey, Livestock Statistic Survey, and Livestock-breeding Trend Survey. The current statistical data are focused on the scale of livestock breeding and the production of livestock manure using these data, but it is difficult to establish database due to lack of information. In order to plan relevant policies including management of livestock manure, the government established database systems such as the integrated information system of livestock manure, the integrated system of national infectious animal-disease prevention, and the Sae-ol public administrative system. We have tried to suggest improvements for the comprehensive environmental information system of livestock manure management by detecting problems in each level of the livestock manure life-cycle, making use of the existing systems, and considering the electronic transfer system of livestock manure. The services and functions of this comprehensive system include information of livestock farmers, the production, collection, transportation, and treatment of livestock manure, the area of agricultural land used for livestock manure, the report of approval and results on livestock manure products, management of statistical information, management of civil affairs, and relevant mobile application services. The system is made up of three processes: first, establishment of GIS-based management database of livestock manure; second, establishment of a history management system for livestock manure transactions; and third, development of a water quality assessment system.

  • 현재 시민의 생명을 보호하기 위한 목적으로 민방위대피소의 설치와 관리가 정부 및 지자체 주도하에 이뤄지고 있다. 향후에는 지정된 전용 대피소를 포함하여 일반 대피시설의 확장을 통한 효율적인 민방위 대피소 운영의 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 따라서, 대피소의 선정 시 수용인원만을 고려한 양적인 운영이 아닌 거주민의 분포 및 대피소의 접근 위치를 고려하는 것이 효율적이라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 행정구역 데이터에 비해 세밀하게 거주민 분포를 파악할 수 있는 전수 집계구 데이터와 건물 데이터, 도로망 정보를 기반으로 유전자 알고리즘과 Huff 중력 모델을 활용하여 모든 거주민을 실질적으로 수용할 수 있는 민방위대피소를 선정하였다. 또한, 효율적인 데이터 관리와 빠른 처리를 위해 공간 데이터베이스를 활용하였으며, 본 연구 성과를 개량하면 시 단위의 광범위한 지역에 대해서도 일반 대피시설의 선정 및 개선 연구의 기반 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Treatment Patterns, Costs, and Survival among Medicare-Enrolled Elderly Patients Diagnosed with Advanced Stage Gastric Cancer: Analysis of a Linked Population-Based Cancer Registry and Administrative Claims Database

  • Purpose: To assess real-world treatment patterns, health care utilization, costs, and survival among Medicare enrollees with locally advanced/unresectable or metastatic gastric cancer receiving standard first-line chemotherapy. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results-Medicare linked database (2000~2009). The inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) first diagnosed with locally advanced/unresectable or metastatic gastric cancer between July 1, 2000 and December 31, 2007 (first diagnosis defined the index date); (2) ${\geq}65$ years of age at index; (3) continuously enrolled in Medicare Part A and B from 6 months before index through the end of follow-up, defined by death or the database end date (December 31, 2009), whichever occurred first; and (4) received first-line treatment with fluoropyrimidine and/or a platinum chemotherapy agent. Results: In total, 2,583 patients met the inclusion criteria. The mean age at index was $74.8{\pm}6.0years$. Over 90% of patients died during follow-up, with a median survival of 361 days for the overall post-index period and 167 days for the period after the completion of first-line chemotherapy. The mean total gastric cancer-related cost per patient over the entire post-index follow-up period was United States dollar (USD) $70,808{\pm}56,620$. Following the completion of first-line chemotherapy, patients receiving further cancer-directed treatment had USD 25,216 additional disease-related costs versus patients receiving supportive care only (P<0.001). Conclusions: The economic burden of advanced gastric cancer is substantial. Extrapolating based on published incidence estimates and staging distributions, the estimated total disease-related lifetime cost to Medicare for the roughly 22,200 patients expected to be diagnosed with this disease in 2014 approaches USD 300 millions.
