The Relationships between Career Maturity, Anxiety and School Related Adjustment Levels of Adolescents (청소년의 진로성숙도 및 불안과 학교적응간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between career maturity, anxiety and school related adjustments levels of adolescents. A sample of 319 1th grade high school students in Seoul Metropolitan area participated in this study. The subjects completed questionnaires on the levels of school related adjustments, anxiety and career maturity. Data were analyzed by means of Pearson's correlation coefficients, as well as multiple and hierarchical regressions. Career maturity, as well as anxiety was founded to be a predictor to the school related adjustments levels of adolescents; significant interactional effects were found between career maturity and anxiety in terms of school related adjustments. These results indicate the need for possible interventions in relation to adolescents' anxiety levels and to improve the school related adjustments levels of adolescents.

The Effect of Social Support on Adolescents' School-Related Adjustments: The Mediation Effect of Life Satisfaction (사회적지지가 남녀청소년의 학교적응에 미치는 영향: 삶의 만족도의 매개효과)

  • The main purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between social support, life satisfaction, and school-related adjustments of adolescents. The participants were 260 junior high school students (140 male and 120 female students) from the Seoul area. They completed questionnaires on social support, life satisfaction, and school-related adjustments. The collected data were analyzed using basic descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and a multiple regression analysis. Baron and Kenny's method was used and examined, and the Sobel test was performed to determine the mediating model's significance. It was adapted to SPSS ver. 19.0 for Windows. The major findings were as follows: first, social support (parents/teacher/friend) was positively correlated with the adolescents' school-related adjustment. Second, the adolescents' life satisfaction was also positively correlated with the adolescents' school-related adjustments. In addition, social support was positively correlated with life satisfaction. It was further found that the adolescents' life satisfaction tended to play a perfectly/partially mediating role between social support and school-related adjustment; that is, social support (parents/teacher/friend) was shown to have not only a direct effect, but also an indirect effect through the adolescents' life satisfaction, on the school-related adjustments. These results clearly indicated that adolescents' life satisfaction plays a crucial role in the relationship between social support and the adolescents' school-related adjustments.

IFRS Reconciliation Adjustment and Subsequent Meet or Beat Target Earnings

  • This study analyzed the association between IFRS adjustments, measured with the IFRS reconciliations, and the subsequent meeting of target earnings. IFRS adjustments include the amounts to be adjusted intentionally, as well as the differences in accounting standards. This study estimated intentional IFRS adjustments and analyzed their association with meeting target earnings. As the results of our analysis, meeting target earnings was associated positively with intentional IFRS adjustments for the total assets, was negatively associated with them for current assets, and was positively associated with them for non-current assets. Since understatement of current assets can be realized into earnings in a short period of time, it seems that current assets were underestimated intentionally in order to meet target earnings subsequently. In contrast, it is considered that non-current assets were overestimated to make them more likely to meet target earnings either by increasing the firm size or by improving financial solvency. The results of this study imply that IFRS adjustments are useful to manage earnings for meeting target earnings. Since accounting standards may be established and revised constantly, which adjustments for them may occur, the results on IFRS adjustments are expected to have implications for investors, policy-makers, and standards establishment entities.

Firms' Optimal Adjustments to Demand Shocks:Wages, Workers, and Hours (수요 변동에 대한 기업의 임금 및 고용조정 패턴)

  • This paper investigates how firms adjust wages, employment and hours in response to demand shifts. It focuses on rigidities and asymmetries in such adjustments. Major findings are as follows. First, wage adjustments are fairly small compared with worker adjustments. Second, wage adjustments are asymmetric with respect to sales growth: there is no responsiveness of wage growth when sales are declining, while adjustments are significantly positive when sales are rising. On the contrary, worker adjustments are symmetric with respect to demand shifts. Third, while workers are linearly adjusted to the sales growth, some nonlinearity is observed in the wage adjustment. Fourth, hours are generally nonresponsive to demand shocks. Finally, union firms cut wages rather than workers in the face of negative demand shocks.

Elementary School Students' Multiple Intelligence, Prosocial Behavior, and School Adjustment (초등학교 아동의 다중지능과 친사회적 행동, 학교생활적응에 관한 연구)

  • This study examines the relationships between elementary school students' multiple intelligences, prosocial behaviors, and school adjustments. The sample included 367 students from two elementary schools, and data were collected using the multiple-intelligence index, the prosocial behavior inventory, and the school adjustment index. A statistical analysis was conducted using t-test, a one-way ANOVA (Duncan's test), and a multiple regression analysis. According to the results, there were significant differences in the students' prosocial behaviors according to their multiple intelligences in terms of their sharing, kindness, cooperation, help, sympathy, and protection. In addition, there were significant differences in their school adjustments according to their multiple intelligence in terms of their adjustments to their teachers, friends, studies, and rules and events. The students' multiple intelligence was a significant predictors of their prosocial behaviors and school adjustments. In particular, their interpersonal intelligences, intrapersonal intelligences, and linguistic intelligences were significant predictors of their prosocial behaviors and school adjustments. These results suggest that elementary school students should be encouraged to develop their multiple intelligence to facilitate their prosocial behaviors and school adjustments.

The Changes of Skin Temperature and Subjective Fatigue of the Thoracic Vertebrae by the Chiropractic Adjustments (흉추에 적용한 척추교정이 피부온도와 주관적 피로에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the changes of skin temperature and subjective fatigue of the thoracic vertebrae by the chiropractic adjustments. Stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system will cause the changes in the skin blood flow which can be detected by measuring the skin surface temperature. This study was to see whether chiropractic adjustments could affect the activity of the sympathetic nervous system as reflected by changes in skin temperature of the thoracic. Skin temperature and subjective fatigue on 16 subjects was measured before, within 10 sec, 10min, 20min and 30 min after a thoracic adjustment with Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging(DITI) and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). The adjustments consisted of a straight posterior-to-anterior high-speed, low-amplitude thrust to the transverse process of T3-T10 using a reinforced hypothenar contact. The average temperature and fatigue changed when the spine was considered as an entire unit. These results illustrate that the blood flow through the soft tissue can be affected by specific adjustments to the spine. This study might be served as an useful baseline data for the changes of the circulation and fatigue after the chiropractic adjustments.

Analysis on Structural Models between Educare Teachers' Adult Attachment, Self-Efficacy, Discipline Styles and the Young Children's Adjustments (보육교사의 성인애착, 효능감, 훈육방식과 유아의 적응간의 구조모형 분석)

  • This research attempted to examine the effects of adult attachment which belongs to the psychological characteristics of the educare teachers on the behavior young children's adjustments through the educare teacher's self-efficacy and styles of discipline. To achieve this, a survey was conducted on 866 children aged 2-5 years attending 23 educare centers located in Seoul, the region of Gyeonggi and Gyeongsangbuk-do, and their 135 teachers in charge. The results of this research demonstrated that first, educare teachers' adult attachment had indirect effects on the young children's adjustments by the media of self-efficacy. Second, the educare teachers'adult attachment was found to have indirect effects on the young children's adjustments by the media of discipline styles. Third, the educare teachers' adult attachment was found to have effects on the young children's adjustments through self-efficacy and discipline styles. In conclusion, with regard to the effects of the educare teachers' adult attachment on the young children's adjustments the mediated effects of self-efficacy and discipline styles were confirmed. This research enables one to have an in-depth understanding of the process in which the educare teacher's psychological characteristics have important effects on the social and emotional development of young children and it is expected that it will become evidence data for realizing the need for developing practical educational programs regarding the character development and mental health of the educare teachers.

Efficiency of occlusal and interproximal adjustments in CAD-CAM manufactured single implant crowns - cast-free vs 3D printed cast-based

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of occlusal and interproximal adjustments of single implant crowns (SIC), comparing a digital cast-free approach (CF) and a protocol using 3D printed casts (PC). MATERIALS AND METHODS. A titanium implant was inserted at position of lower right first molar in a typodont. The implant position was scanned using an intraoral scanner and SICs were fabricated accordingly. Ten crowns (CF; n = 10) were subject to a digital cast-free workflow without any labside occlusal and interproximal modifications. Ten other identical crowns (PC) were adjusted to 3D printed casts before delivery. All crowns were then adapted to the testing model, simulating chair-side adjustments during clinical placement. Adjustment time, quantity of adjustments, and contact relationship were assessed. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (P < .05). RESULTS. Median and interquartile range (IQR) of clinical adjustment time was 02:44 (IQR 00:45) minutes in group CF and 01:46 (IQR 00:21) minutes in group PC. Laboratory and clinical adjustment time in group PC was 04:25 (IQR 00:59) minutes in total. Mean and standard deviation (±SD) of root mean squared error (RMSE) of quantity of clinical adjustments was 45 ± 7 ㎛ in group CF and 34 ± 6 ㎛ in group PC. RMSE of total adjustments was 61 ± 11 ㎛ in group PC. Quality of occlusal contacts was better in group CF. CONCLUSION. Time effort for clinical adjustments was higher in the cast-free protocol, whereas quantity of modifications was lower, and the occlusal contact relationship was found more favourable.

The Effects of Self-Efficacy on Adolescents' School Adjustment : The Mediating Effects of Depression and Aggression (청소년의 자기효능감이 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향 : 우울과 공격성의 매개효과)

  • The aims of this study were to investigate the effects of self-efficacy on adolescents' school adjustments and to identify mediating effects of depression and aggression. To this end, we conducted descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and path analysis, using data from the 2008 Korean Youth Panel Survey undertaken by the National Youth Policy Institute. Our analysis shows that self-efficacy has positive effects on adolescents' school adjustments, while both depression and aggression have negative effects on adolescents' school adjustments. Moreover, both depression and aggression have a mediating effect when it comes to self-efficacy and school adjustments. These results imply that schools should consider developing a service delivery system by providing students with professional services that enhance self-efficacy. Moreover, such services will be more effective when they are combined with a program that reduces students' depression and aggression.

The Relationship between Ego-Resilience, Mattering and School Life Adjustments of Elementary Students Participating in Physical Activity after School (방과 후 체육활동 참여 초등학생들의 자아탄력성과 또래존재감 및 학교생활적응의 관계)

  • This study examines the relationship between ego-resilience, mattering and school life adjustments of elementary students participating in physical activity after school. The number of subjects for this study were 429 who were participating in the physical activity after school in Gyeonggi-do. The reliability and validity test of the questionnaire and descriptive analysis, factor analysis, correlation were conducted by using SPSS 20.0 and structural equation model was conducted by using AMOS 20.0 program. The results are as follows; First, ego-resilience of elementary students participating in physical activity after school affects their mattering. Second, mattering of elementary students participating in physical activity after school affects their school life adjustments. Third, ego-resilience of elementary students participating in physical activity after school affects their school life adjustments. Lastly there is a causal relationship between ego-resilience, mattering and school life adjustments of elementary students participating in physical activity after school.
