  • This paper deals with the analysis and adjustment computation for the Korean 1st order levelling data obtained by the National Geography Institute from 1974 to 1986. An evaluation of the accuracy of level lines using forward/back discrepancies and adjustment residuals has been carried out. A general assessment of the network in the light of current standards with other countries is discussed. The results of this study show that systematic errors are relatively high but the accuracy of the primary levelling is good enough within the limitation of precision levelling according to International Association of Geodesy(IAG) Resolution, and therefore it is concluded that this levelling will satisfy the present mapping and engineering survey.

  • Determination of local tie vectors between the space geodetic techniques such as VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometer), SLR (Satellite Laser Ranging), DORIS (Doppler Orbit determination and Radiopositioning Integrated on Satellite), GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) is essential for combination of ITRF (International Terrestrial Reference Frame). Therefore, it is required to compute IVP (Invariant Point) position of each space geodetic technique with high accuracy. In this study, we have computed Sejong VLBI IVP position by using updated mathematical model for adjustment computation so that the improvement on efficiency and reliability in computation are obtained. The measurements used for this study are the coordinates of reflective targets on the VLBI antenna and their accuracies are set to 1.5 mm for each component. The results show that the position of VLBI IVP together with its standard deviation is successfully estimated when they are compared with those of the results from previous study. However, it is notable that additional terrestrial surveying should be performed so that realistic measurement errors are incorporated in the adjustment computation process.

  • The purpose of this study is to assess the performance of Short-term atmospheric dispersion models --- ISCST, MPTER, VALLEY --- with terrain adjustment. The models are evaluated through correlation analysis, paired analysis and log-normal culmulative analysis between the measured and predicted concentrations in Samcheonpo area. The correlation coefficients between the measured and predicted concentrations turn out to be higher with terrain adjustment than those without terrain adjustment. In paired analysis, the mean differences and average absolute gross errors of concentrations do not change significantly with terrain adjustment. But the variances of the residuals become much smaller when the terrain is adjusted. Through the log-normal cumulative analysis, it is found that the terrain adjustment improve the prediction performance of MPTER and VALLEY, but do not affect significantly that of ISCST. Overall, it is concluded that the performance of short term atmospheric dispersion models improve when the terrain is considered in computation, especially in MPTER and VALLEY.

  • This paper surveys past and state-of-the-art SLAM technologies. The standard methods for solving the SLAM problem are the Kalman filter, particle filter, graph, and bundle adjustment-based methods. Kalman filters such as EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) and UKF (Unscented Kalman Filter) have provided successful results for estimating the state of nonlinear systems and integrating various sensor information. However, traditional EKF-based methods suffer from the increase of computation burden as the number of features increases. To cope with this problem, particle filter-based SLAM approaches such as FastSLAM have been widely used. While particle filter-based methods can deal with a large number of features, the computation time still increases as the map grows. Graph-based SLAM methods have recently received considerable attention, and they can provide successful real-time SLAM results in large urban environments.

  • In this paper, attitude computation algorithm for a strap down ARS(Attitude Reference System)of an underwater vehicle has been studied. Attitude errors o the ARS using low-level gyroscopes tend to increase with time due to gyroscope errors. To cope with this problem, a mixing algorithm of accelerometer aided attitude computation has been developed. The algorithm can successfully bound the error increase for cruising motion, but it gives instantaneously large errors when a vehicle maneuvers. To improve the performance in case of vehicle's maneuver, a new attitude computation mixing algorithm complying state of vehicle and to manage the adjustment of the gains which are invariant in the existing algorithm. In addition, a gain scheduling method is applied to fuzzy inference composition process for real-time computation. Monte Carlo simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides better performance than the existing algorithm.

  • This paper deals with comparison of simultaneous geodetic networks between with geographical coordinates and with plane coordinates. The adjustment computation is performed by variation of coordinates. Provisional values for observation equations are computed by extended Guass mid-latitude formula using, official coordinates ($\varphi,\lambda$) in geographical network abjustment, measurements are reduced to plane by origin scale factor (=1.0000) Bessel ellipsoid and unit weight are adopted, and geographical coordinates are projected by Guass conformal double projection. The processing results of a test-network by distances yield the average root mean square error of position 6ㆍ2cm for adjustment with $\varphi,\lambda$ and 5.8cm for adjustment with X, Y. RMSE of discrepancy between two methods is 1.7cm. This result conform to required accracy.

  • Determination of VLBI IVP (Very Long Baseline Interferometry Invariant Point) position with high accuracy is required to compute local tie vectors between the space geodetic techniques. In general, reflective targets are attached on VLBI antenna and slant distances, horizontal and vertical angles are measured from the pillars. Then, adjustment computation is performed by using the mathematical model which connects measurements and unknown parameters. This indicates that the accuracy of the estimated solutions is affected by the accuracy of the measurements. One of issues in local tie surveying, however, is that the reflective targets are not in favorable condition, that is, the reflective sheet target cannot be perfectly aligned to the instrument perpendicularly. Deviation from the line of sight of an instrument may cause different type of measurement errors. This inherent limitation may lead to incorrect stochastic modeling for the measurements in adjustment computation procedures. In this study, error characteristics by measurement types and pillars are analyzed, respectively. The analysis on the studentized residuals is performed after adjustment computation. The normality of the residuals is tested and then equal variance test between the measurement types are performed. The results show that there are differences in variance according to the measurement types. Differences in variance between distances and angle measurements are observed when F-test is performed for the measurements from each pillar. Therefore, more detailed stochastic modeling is required for optimal solutions, especially in local tie survey.

  • Recently, a new learning algorithm for multilayer neural networks has been proposed 〔1〕. In the new learning algorithm, each output neuron is considered as a function of weights and the weights are adjusted so that the output neurons produce desired outputs. And the adjustment is accomplished by taking gradients. However, the gradient computation was performed numerically, resulting in a long computation time. In this paper, we derive the all necessary equations so that the gradient computation is performed analytically, resulting in a much faster learning time comparable to the backpropagation. Since the weight adjustments are accomplished by summing the gradients of the output neurons, we will call the new learning algorithm “multi-gradient.” Experiments show that the multi-gradient consistently outperforms the backpropagation.

  • LSP(Line Spectrum Pairs) Parameter is used for speech analysis in vocoders or recognizers since it has advantages of constant spectrum sensitivity. low spectrum distortion and easy linear interpolation. However the method of transforming LPC(Linear Predictive Coding) into LSP is so complex that it takes much time to compute. Among conventional methods, the real root method is considerably simpler than others, but nevertheless, it still suffers from its jndeterministic computation time because the root searching is processed sequentially in frequency region. We suggest a method of reducing the LSP transformation time using voice characteristics The proposed method is to apply search order and interval differently according to the distribution of LSP parameters. in comparison with the conventional real root method, the proposed method results in about 46.5% reduction. And, the total computation time is reduce to about 5% in the G.723.1 vocoder.
