This paper showed the a numerical analysis of the thermal and fluid flow in solar concentration absorber with tilt angle, and the purpose of this study is to obtain the optimum tilt angle of the absorber. The boundary conditions of a numerical model were assumed as flows : (1) The heat source is located at the center of absorber (3) The bottom wall is opened and adiabatic. (3) The top, right and left walls are cooled wall. The parameters for the numerical analysis are tilt angles and Rayleigh numbers i.e., tilt angle $\theta=0^{\circ},\;15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ},\;60^{\circ},\;75^{\circ},\;90^{\circ}$ and 101 $\leq$ Ra $\leq$ 103. The velocity vectors and isotherms were dense at wall side and the heat source. The mean Nusselt number had a maximum value at $\theta=0^{\circ}$ and showed a low value as the tilt angles were increased. Finally, the decrease rate of mean Nusselt number was appeared small with tilt angle when Rayleigh numbers were increased.

Numerical solution of the full Navier-Stokes equation as well as the energy equation has been obtained for the unsteady natural convection in a rectangular enclosure. One side wall was maintained at very high temperature simulating fires. Especially the effect of surface radiation was taken into account. While the enclosed air was assumed to be transparent, the internal walls directly interacted one another through the surface radiation. Due to a significant temperature difference in the flow field, the equation of state was used instead of the Boussinesq approximation. It was found that the rapid heating of the adiabatic ceiling and floor by the incoming radiation from the hot wall made the evolution at thermo-fluid field highly unstable in the initial period. Therefore, the secondary cells brought about at the floor region greatly affected the heat transfer mechanism inside the enclosure. The heat transfer rate was augmented by the radiation, resulting in requiring less time for the flow to reach the steady state. At the steady state neglecting radiation two internal hydraulic jumps were clearly observed in upper/left as well as in lower/right comer. However, the hydraulic jump in the lower/right comer could not be observed for the case including radiation due to its high momentum flow over the bottom wall. Radiation resulted in a faster establishment of the steady state phenomena.

A numerical study was undertaken to clarify the mechanisms of heat transfer in fluid-particle suspension flows. Such flows, including fluidization, are of considerable industrial importance. The present study uses 2-D numerical computations of collisions of normal incidence between a particle and a wall. By comparing the results using (a) adiabatic boundary conditions on the particle and (b) uniform, elevated temperature conditions on the particle, the contributions of fluid-mediated conduction and particle induced convection were successfully separated. Computational expedience led to the use of a transient conduction thermal layer as the background thermal field for the analysis. The results shows that the effect of particle movement is very small until the particle reaches a distance of one to one half diameter away from the wall. The gas-mediated conduction effect is dominant over the induced gas convection effect when Pe is small and the induced gas convection effect becomes significant as Pe increases.
Because the framed wall system using steel studs and runners with square steel tubes as structural elements is reinforced by the horizontal members called runners, it has more strength and load bearing capacity than the steel house wall system. Also, this system improves adiabatic and sound insulation performance by filling up the autoclaved lightweight concrete. We need to evaluate load bearing capacity according to the axial load and lateral load in case this system is applied in the housing system with 3~5 stories through variations in intervals for the runners under the placement effect of autoclaved lightweight concrete. Therefore, this study seeks to analyze axial and shear behavior of the framed wall system according to the placement effect of autoclaved lightweight concrete, and to secure safety for the vertical and lateral loads.
When a rotating heat pipe is in operation, liquid condensate returns from the condenser to the evaporator along the inside surface by both components of gravitational and centrifugal forces. It was known that its performance was largely dependent on how to increase the flow rates of condensate and keep the condensate film thickness as thin as possible. Most of research works were focussed on this goal, and various inner wall structures such as tapered wall, stepped wall or coil inserted pipe etc. were developed. In the present study, a stepped wall structure with 3 internal grooves in the condenser and adiabatic zone was examined. For this system, the condensate would flow down to the evaporator through the grooves, resulting a reduced film thickness over the condenser surface. Experimental data showed an enhancement of heat transfer coefficient in the condenser zone. An analytical solution to the condensate film thickness showed that the analytically calculated values of heat transfer coefficient were considerably higher than the experimental data.

A numerical study is carried out for natural convection in an enclosure with an inner hot cylinder at the center. The top wall is cold, the bottom and both side walls of the enclosure are adiabatic, and the cylinder is heated. The bottom wall is heated locally at the middle. The ratio (w) is defined by as the width of the bottom wall to that of the heated local area. The immersed boundary method (IBM) is used to model an inner circular cylinder based on the finite volume method (FVM). This study investigates the effect of w on natural convection in an enclosure with an inner heated cylinder for Rayleigh numbers of $10^6$. At $6Ra=10^6$, thermal and flow fields show time-dependent characteristics after their full development.

A numerical investigation on the three-dimensional laminar natural convection heat transfer in the periodically fully developed PCB channel has been performed. When heat generating blocks mounted on the adiabatic wall make a channel with their facing shrouding wall, the flow inside the channel becomes periodically fully developed. A single module in the periodically fully developed region is chosen for computational domain in order to save computer storage and computational time. The periodic boundary condition is applied in the anlaysis. The effects of the parameters such as the Rayleigh number, the number of the modules, and the height of channel are examined to obtain the optimum condition for the enhancement of the cooling effectiveness. The result shows that the cooling effect is improved with increasing Rayleigh number and channel height, and decreasing the number of the module. The result also indicates that increasing the height of the channel and number of the module is recommended for a limited space.
In the present work, flow analysis has been performed in the steam turbine bypass control valve (single-path type) for two different cases i.e., case with steam only and case with both steam and water. The numerical analysis is performed by solving three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations. The shear stress transport (SST) model and $k-{\varepsilon}$ model are used to each different case as turbulence closure. Symmetry condition is applied at the mid plane of the valve while adiabatic condition is used at the outer wall of the cage. Grid independency test is performed to find the optimal number of grid points. The pressure and temperature distributions on the outer wall of the cage are analyzed. The mass flow rate at maximum plug opening condition is compared with the designed mass flow rate. The numerical analysis of multiphase mixing flow(liquid and vapor) is also performed to inspect liquid-vapor volume fraction of bypass valve. The result of volume fraction is useful to estimate both the safety and confidence of valve design.
Experimental study is performed to investigate the effect of heat load and operating temperature on the thermal performance of a heat pipe with screen mesh wick. The heat pipe was designed in 200 screen meshes, 500mm length and 12.7mm O.D tube of copper, water as working fluid(4.8g) and nitrogen as non-condensible gas(NCG). The heat pipe used in this study has evaporator, condenser and adiabatic section, respectively. Experimental data of axial wall temperature distribution is presented for heat transport capacity, the temperature of cooling water of condenser, inclination angle, and operating temperature. For the results from this study, it is found that, for the same charging mass of working fluid, the initial operating temperature and the overall wall temperatures of heat pipe are higher for NCG charging mass of $5.0{\times}10^{-6}kg$ and $3.4{\times}10^{-6}kg$, than that of $1.0{\times}10^{-6}kg$.

Experimental study has been performed to investigate the influence of non-condensible gas(NCG) charged mass on the thermal performance of a variable conductance heat pipe(VCHP) with screen mesh wick. The VCHP is furnished by screen mesh number 200 for the pipe outer diameter of 12.7mm and the pipe length of 500 mm. The VCHP is filled with water as working fluid of 4.8g and nitrogen as NCG and has evaporator, condenser and adiabatic section, respectively. For the results from experiment, it is found that, for the same charged mass of working fluid, the overall wall temperatures of heat pipe grows up with increasing NCG charged mass. The variation of operating temperature of VCHP reduces with increasing NCG mass. In addition, the profile of axial wall temperature distribution is presented for heat transport capacity of heat pipe, the temperature of cooling water of condenser, inclination angle, and operating temperature.
