Hot AC anodising has been evaluated us pre-treatment for aluminium prior to structural adhesive bonding. Phosphoric and sulphuric acid hot AC anodising showed very promising adhesion promoter capabilities with durability comparable with the best standard DC anodising procedures. AC anodising does not required etching prior to anodising and offers u pre-treatment time down to 20 seconds. The interface/interphase between the aluminium substrate and the adhesive was investigated in order to get a better understanding of the involved adhesion mechanisms and to explain the long-tenn properties. The alkaline medium formed at the oxide layer/adhesive interface has been shown to induce a partial dissolution of the oxide layer leading to the formation of metallic ions which diffuse in the adhesive (EPMA measurements). The effect of diffusion of the Al ions on adhesion and joint durability is still uncertain but studies showed that pre-bond moisture affected the joints durability and to some extent the diffusion length. specially for DC anodised samples. So far no direct correlation could be established between the diffusion length d and the joints durability but new trials with better control over the elapsed time between bonding and adhesive curing are expected to help getting a better understanding of the involved mechanisms.
PURPOSE. To evaluate adherence of human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) to transmucosal abutment of dental implant with different surface conditions with time and to investigate the roles of focal adhesion linker proteins (FALPs) involved in HGFs adhesion to abutment surfaces. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Morphologies of cultured HGFs on titanium and ceramic discs with different surface were observed by scanning electron microscopy. Biocompatibility and focal adhesion were evaluated by ultrasonic wave application and cell viability assay. FALPs expression levels were assessed by RT-PCR and western blot. RESULTS. There seemed to be little difference in biocompatibility and adhesion strength of HGFs depending on the surface conditions and materials. In all experimental groups, the number of cells remaining on the disc surface after ultrasonic wave application increased more than 2 times at 3 days after seeding compared to 1-day cultured cells and this continued until 7 days of culture. FALPs expression levels, especially of vinculin and paxillin, also increased in 5-day cultured cells compared to 1-day cultured fibroblasts on the disc surface. CONCLUSION. These results might suggest that the strength of adhesion of fibroblasts to transmucosal abutment surfaces increases with time and it seemed to be related to expressions of FALPs.
The adhesion and removal of $\alpha$-Fe2O3 particles on the from PET fabric in NPE solution with different ionic strength were discussed in terms of interaction of surface charge of particle and substrate. The adhesion of $\alpha$-Fe2O3 particles to PET fabric and its removal from PET fabric were carried out by using water bath shaker and Terg-O-Tometer under various solution conditions. The ζ potential of PET fiber and $\alpha$-Fe2O3 particles in the detergent solution were measured by steaming potential and microelectrophoresis methods, respectively. The adhesion and removal amount of $\alpha$-Fe2O3 particles on the from PET fabric increased with increasing time of adhesion and removal, and the rates of adhesion and removal were high at the initial stage of adhesion and removal, and then the rates decreased with passing time. The adhesion and removal amount of $\alpha$-Fe2O3 particles on and from PET fabric increased with increasing pH of solution regardless ionic strength. The tendencies and degree of adhesion and removal were very similar regardless interaction of surface charge of particle and fiber. Therefore, in the presence of a surfactant and electrolyte, the influence of interaction of surface charge of particle and substrate on the detergency of particulate soil was small.
A polymeric film composed of Carbopol, Poloxamer and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose was prepared to develop a buccal patch and the effects of composition of the film on adhesion time, swelling ratio, and dissolution of the film were studied. The effects of plasticizers or penetration enhancers on the release of triamcinolone acetonide (TAA) were also studied. The hydrogen bonding between Carbopol and Poloxamer played important role in reducing swelling ratio and dissolution rate of polymer film and increasing adhesion time. The swelling ratio of the composite film was significantly reduced and the adhesion time was increased when compared with Carbopol film. As the ratio of Poloxamer to hydroxypropyl methylcellulose increased from 0/66 to 33/33, the release rate of TAA decreased. However, no further significant decrease of release rate was observed beyond the ratio of 33/33. The release rate of TAA in the polymeric film containing polyethylene glycol 400, a plasticizer, showed the highest release rate followed by triethyl citrate, and castor oil. The release rate of TAA from the polymeric film containing permeation enhancers was slower than that from the control without enhancers. Therefore, these observations indicated that a preparation of a buccal patch is feasible with the polymeric film composed of Cabopol, Poloxamer and hydropropyl methylcellulose.
In this work, electrophoretic paint (E-paint) was deposited on AZ31 Mg alloy after four different surface pretreatments: knife abrading, SiC paper abrading, deionized (DI) water immersion and NaOH immersion. The deposition process of E-paint was studied by analyses of voltage-time and current-time curves, amount of deposited paint, current efficiency and surface oxide film resistance and the adhesion of E-paint was examined by tape test before and after immersion in DI water for 500 h at $40$^{\circ}C$. It was found that the induction time for the deposition, the amount of deposited paint and the current efficiency are inversely proportional to the resistances of surface films prepared by different surface pretreatment methods. The electrophoretic painting showed longer inductance time, larger amount of deposited paint and higher current efficiency on the highly conducting surfaces, such as knife-abraded and SiC-abraded surfaces than on the less conducting surfaces, such as DI water-immersed and NaOH-immersed samples. Excellent adhesion was observed on the E-paintings deposited onto knife-abraded and SiC-abraded AZ31 Mg alloy samplesSiC-abraded AZ31 Mg alloy samples.
In this paper, the curing reaction of UF resins was investigated by a real time FT-IR method. The curing temperature range of the UF resin was $25{\sim}200^{\circ}C$. It was found that the reactions of UF resin at different temperatures resultedin resins with different cross-linked structures. A real time FT-IR spectroscopy can be considered as a good routine analytical tool for following the progress of UF resin curing.
The relationship between the amount of deposited-Zn and the adhesion of Zn film has beend investigated. This study changed the mild steel substrate temperature range of $100^{\circ}C$~$250^{\circ}C$, with the aim of studying the adhesion of Zn film coated by PVD on substrates in 10-2~10-3torr and deoxidant gas atmospheres 50%H2~50%N2 and 75%H2+25%N2. The result revealed that the adhesion of Zn film was remarkably good in a 75% H2+25%N2 gas atmosphere as well as deoxidant time was short, and with increasing the substrate tempera-ture up to $250^{\circ}C$. Whiled the amount of deposition tended to increase linearly with time at constant evaporation temperature. It was almost constant when the substrate temperature was lower than $200^{\circ}C$, slightly decreased between $200^{\circ}C$ and $250^{\circ}C$ and significantly decreased at $300^{\circ}C$.
The effect of the additionally applied electrical current on the adhesion strength between electroless Cu and polyimide films was investigated. Peel tests were performed after applying electrical current within the range from 0.1 to 100 mA for the duration from 1 to 30 minutes. Sample with more than 1 mA of additional electrical current for 1 minute showed higher adhesion strength than that without additional electrical current. However, samples with 10 mA of additional electrical current for more than 10 miniutes showed the degradation of adhesion strength. Ra and RMS values of the peeled polyimide surface were proportional to the adhesion strength though there were no significant changes in the morphology of the peeled surfaces with varied amount and time-length of additional electrical current. Applying electrical current could increase the density of chemical bonding, which results in increase of the adhesion strength between copper and polyimide. However, in the case of applying additional electrical current for excessive amount or time, the degradation of the adhesion strength owing to the formation of copper oxide at the interface could occur.
Inflammation is a frequent radiation-induced reaction following therapeutic irradiation. Treatment of human umbilical endothelial cells (HUVEC) with ${\gamma}$-irradiation (${\gamma}$IR) induces the expression of adhesion proteins such as intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), and E-selectin. Since the upregulation of these proteins on endothelial cell Surface has been known to be associated with inflammation, interfering with the expression of adhesion molecules is an important therapeutic target. In the present study, we demonstrate that vitamin C inhibits ${\gamma}$IR induced expression of ICAM-1, VCAM-1, and E-selectin on HUVEC in a dose- and time dependent manner. Vitamin C a1so inhibited the production of Nitric oxide (NO) induced by ${\gamma}$IR. These data suggest that vitamin C has therapeutic potential for the treatment of various inflammatory disorder associated with an increase of endothelial leukocyte adhesion molecules.
