  • We present a 64-channel wavelength multiplexing architecture consisting of two 32-channel wavelength muitiplexers. Measured insertion losses of the 32-channel muitiplexers were below 8㏈ with uniformity in loss among channels better than 1㏈. The architecture of an OADM is also presented which employs FBGs. It is shown that the OADM can add or drop up to 12 channels.

  • A two-dimensional optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) encoder/decoder, which is composed of add/drop filters and all-pass filters for delay operation, is proposed. An example design is presented, and its feasibility is illustrated through numerical simulations. The chip area of the proposed OCDMA encoder/decoder could be about one-third that of a previous OCDMA device employing delay waveguides. Its performance is numerically investigated using the transfer-matrix method combined with the fast Fourier transform. The autocorrelation peak level over the maximum cross-correlation level for incorrect wavelength hopping and spectral phase code combinations is greater than 3 at the center of the correctly decoded pulse, which assures a bit error rate lower than 10-3, corresponding to the forward error-correction limit.

  • In this paper, the output and temperature characteristics for an optical signal of the fiber bragg grating have been considered. Also, output characteristics which depend on the temperature changes have been investigated for an all-optic add/drop multiplexer based on the fiber bragg grating and Mach-Zehnder interferometer. From the obtained results, they show that the center wavelength of output spectrum shifts approximately 0.01230 nm/$^{\circ}C$ within a temperature range $-30^{\circ}C{\sim}90^{\circ}C$.

  • We demonstrate a simple and effective wavelength-tunable add/drop filter suitable for coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) systems. The filter consists of two fibers in contact side by side, with identical long-period fiber gratings (LPG) in each fiber. The LPG couples the power in the fundamental core mode to one of the cladding modes, which is then coupled to the same order cladding mode in the other fiber through evanescent-field coupling between two fibers. Finally, the cladding mode in the second fiber is coupled to its core mode with the help of the other LPG. With an optimal longitudinal offset distance of 10 em, coupling efficiency as high as -1.68 dB and side lobes smaller than -24 dB were experimentally obtained. The experimental results agreed well with the theoretical ones. The operating wavelength of the proposed add/drop filter was tunable by varying the temperature. The temperature sensitivity was measured to be -0.43 nm/$^{\circ}C$.

  • We propose a novel structure of wavelength selective optical add/drop module comprising two tap couplers and a fiber Bragg grating. The device has unique features including a simpler structure and a lower cost of implementation as compared with existing devices for the same operation. The module performance has been measured and analyzed experimentally. The implemented prototype module shows good performance with no-crosstalk power penalty in a 155 Mbps per channel wavelength-division-multiplexing transmission system but suffers from a relatively high loss of 3.5 ㏈ and 21 ㏈ for transmitted and dropped channels, respectively. While the dropped channel extinction ratio was more than 25 ㏈, the transmitted channel extinction ratio was more than 35 ㏈.

  • We propose, for the first time to our knowledge, a novel gain-clamping method for EDFA in WDM Add/Drop networks by introducing a disturbance observer technique. The proposed gain-clamping control input consists of the nominal gain-clamping control such as PI(Proportional and Integral) control and the additional control input for the compensation of the effects caused by channel add/drops. The additional control input is designed using the wellknown disturbance observer technique and can be implemented very easily with general electric elements. We proved the superiority of the new technique over the previous methods by showing simulation result of minimized dips and spikes that appear in power profile of EDFA output.

  • In this paper, we propose a singular perturbation-like approach to EDFA gain controller design and analysis. Considering a three-level model of EDFA, a gain controller containing a state observer and a channel add/drop estimator is designed based on a singular perturbation - like concept. The proposed design methodology is shown to be effective and advantageous not only in theoretically verifying the asymptotic stability of systems with multi-time scales such as EDFA but also in designing an asymptotic estimator for channel add/drops which does not satisfy the matching condition.

  • Main role of landing gear is to absorb the energy which is generated by aircraft lanidng and ground maneuvering. Generally, in order to absorb the impact energy during landing, oleo-pneumatic type shock absorber is used for aircraft landing gear. Oleo-pneumatic type shock absorber has a good energy absorbing efficiency and is light in weight because its structure is relatively simple. For the landing gear development, it is necessary to conduct drop test in order to verify shock absorbing performance. In the drop test, first, gas spring curve verification tests are conducted. Then, limit and reserve energy absorption drop tests are performed based on the STANAG 4671. The drop tests results with performance analysis results are presented.
