In this paper we present a new image denoising filter that can suppress additive noise components while preserving signal components in the wavelet domain. The proposed filter, which we call an adaptive wavelet shrinkage(AWS) filter, is composed of two operators: the wavelet killing operator and the adaptive shrinkage operator. Each operator is selected based on the threshold value which is estimated adaptively by using the local statistics of the wavelet coefficients. In the wavelet killing operation, the small wavelet coefficients below the threshold value are replaced by zero to suppress noise components in the wavelet domain. The adaptive shrinkage operator attenuates noise components from the wavelet components above the threshold value adaptively. The experimental results show that the proposed filter is more effective than the other methods in preserving signal components while suppressing noise.
Although Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) is a very powerful and attractive tool, automatic interpretation of SAR images is extremely difficult because of several reason. Spatially, speckle noise reduction in SAR images is important step to interpret the SAR image at the preprocessing step. The speckle noise in SAR images is modeled to be multiplicative, and therefore, a signal-dependent noise. So, it has deflated many image-denoising algorithms that are based on additive noise model. In this paper, we propose an adaptive wavelet shrinkage method for speckle noise reduction in SAR images by analyzing the high frequency level in detail. We first decompose minutely the high frequency level to analyze the noise level. And then, we determine the weighting threshold value per the level, and layer. Finally, using those weighting threshold, we produce the efficient wavelet shrinkage method. So, this method not only reduces the speckle noise, but also preserves image detail and sharpness.

The present work describes simulation studies to compare the performances in terms of averaged mean squared error of bayesian wavelet shrinkage methods in estimating component curves from aggregated functional data. Five bayesian methods available in the literature were considered to be compared in the studies: The shrinkage rule under logistic prior, shrinkage rule under beta prior, large posterior mode (LPM) method, amplitude-scale invariant Bayes estimator (ABE) and Bayesian adaptive multiresolution smoother (BAMS). The so called Donoho-Johnstone test functions, logit and SpaHet functions were considered as component functions and the scenarios were defined according to different values of sample size and signal to noise ratio in the datasets. It was observed that the signal to noise ratio of the data had impact on the performances of the methods. An application of the methodology and the results to the tecator dataset is also done.

Two stage shrinkage testimator is a kind of adaptive estimators based on a test on an initial estimate of parameter. Since weighing factor plays an important roll in assessing the properties of testimator, its choice is extremely crucial in two stage testimation. Adke, Waikar and Schuurmann(1987) proposed a testimator for the mean of an exponential distribution defined with their own weighing factor. Two alternative testimators obtained using changed weighing factors are presented, and their Mean squared error(MSE) formulae are provided in this paper. Their properties are compared with those of existing one by means of MSE.

In this paper, we present a novel space-frequency adaptive image restoration approach using vaguelette-wavelet decomposition (VWD). The proposed algorithm classifies a degraded image into flat and edge regions by using spatial information of the wavelet coefficient. For reducing the noise we perform an adaptive wavelet shrinkage process. At edge region candidates, we adopt entropy approach for estimating the noise and remove it by using relative between sub-bands. After shrinking wavelet coefficients process, we restore the degraded image using the VWD. The proposed algorithm can reduce the noise without affecting the sharpness details. Based on the experimental results, the proposed algorithm efficiently proved to be able to restore the degraded image while preserving details.
Physics-Informed Neural Network (PINN) is used to invert bubble size distributions from attenuation losses. By considering a linear system for the bubble population inversion, Adaptive Learned Iterative Shrinkage Thresholding Algorithm (Ada-LISTA), which has been solved linear systems in image processing, is used as a neural network architecture in PINN. Furthermore, a regularization based on the linear system is added to a loss function of PINN and it makes a PINN have better generalization by a solution satisfying the bubble physics. To evaluate an uncertainty of bubble estimation, deep ensemble is adopted. 20 Ada-LISTAs with different initial values are trained using the same training dataset. During test with attenuation losses different from those in the training dataset, the bubble size distribution and corresponding uncertainty are indicated by average and variance of 20 estimations, respectively. Deep ensemble Ada-LISTA demonstrate superior performance in inverting bubble size distributions than the conventional convex optimization solver of CVX.
In this paper, we study the adaptive least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) for the unstable autoregressive (AR) model. To identify the existence of the unit root, we apply the adaptive LASSO to the augmented Dickey-Fuller regression model, not the original AR model. We illustrate our method with simulations and a real data analysis. Simulation results show that the adaptive LASSO obtained by minimizing the Bayesian information criterion selects the order of the autoregressive model as well as the degree of differencing with high accuracy.

This paper presents a new iterative image restoration algorithm with removal of boundary/object-oriented ringing, The proposed method is based on CGM(Conjugate Gradient Method) iterations with inter-wavelet shrinkage. The proposed method provides a fast restoration as much as CGM, while having adaptive do-noising and do-ringing by using wavelet shrinkage. In order to have effective do-noising and do-ringing simultaneously, the proposed method uses a space-dependent shrinkage rule. The improved performance of the proposed method over more traditional iterative image restoration algorithms such as LR(Lucy-Richardson) and CGM in do-noising and do-ringing is shown through numerical experiments.

In this paper, a beamforming technique is introduced to measure the acoustic impedance at both normal and oblique incidence in a free field. The acoustic impedance is obtained by separating incident and reflected signals using the adaptive nulling method which is one of the various beamforming algorithms. To obtain better results, pressure vector commonly used in array signal processing is replaced with the transfer function vector between each microphone and the white Gaussian noise is suppressed by a wavelet shrinkage technique. The experiments conducted in a semi-anechoic room show that the proposed method is efficient and accurate in measuring the acoustic impedance of sound absorbing materials under a free field condition.
When the input features are generated by factors in a classification problem, it is more meaningful to identify important factors, rather than individual features. The $F_{\infty}$-norm support vector machine(SVM) has been developed to perform automatic factor selection in classification. However, the $F_{\infty}$-norm SVM may suffer from estimation inefficiency and model selection inconsistency because it applies the same amount of shrinkage to each factor without assessing its relative importance. To overcome such a limitation, we propose the adaptive $F_{\infty}$-norm ($AF_{\infty}$-norm) SVM, which penalizes the empirical hinge loss by the sum of the adaptively weighted factor-wise $L_{\infty}$-norm penalty. The $AF_{\infty}$-norm SVM computes the weights by the 2-norm SVM estimator and can be formulated as a linear programming(LP) problem which is similar to the one of the $F_{\infty}$-norm SVM. The simulation studies show that the proposed $AF_{\infty}$-norm SVM improves upon the $F_{\infty}$-norm SVM in terms of classification accuracy and factor selection performance.
