In case the uncertainty existing in a system is assumed to satisfy the matching condition and to be come-bounded. Y. H. Chen proposed an adaptive robust control algorithm which introduced adaptive sheme for a design parameter into robust deterministic controls. In this paper, the adaptive robust control algorithm is applied to the position tracking control of direct drive robots, and simulation and experimental studies are conducted to evaluate control performance.

Premature ventricular contraction(PVC) is the most common disease among arrhythmia and it may cause serious situations such as ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Particularly, in the healthcare system that must continuously monitor patient's situation, it is necessary to process ECG (Electrocardiography) signal in realtime. In other words, the design of algorithm that exactly detects R wave using minimal computation and classifies PVC by analyzing the persons's physical condition and/or environment is needed. Thus, the patient adaptive pattern matching algorithm for the classification of PVC is presented in this paper. For this purpose, we detected R wave through the preprocessing method, adaptive threshold and window. Also, we applied pattern matching method to classify each patient's normal cardiac behavior through the Hash function. The performance of R wave detection and abnormal beat classification is evaluated by using MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. The achieved scores indicate the average of 99.33% in R wave detection and the rate of 0.32% in abnormal beat classification error.

Motion estimation is one of the key components for high quality video coding. In this paper, a new motion estimation scheme for MPEG-like video coder is suggested. The proposed temporally adaptive motion estimation scheme consists of five functional blocks: Temporal subband analysis (TSBA), extraction of temporal information, scene change detection (SCD), picture type replacement (PTR), and temporally adapted block matching algorithm (TABMA). Here all the functional components are based on the temporal subband analysis. In this papre, we applied the analysis part of subband decompostion to the temporal axis of moving picture sequence, newly defined the temporal activity distribution (TAD) and average TAD, and proposed the temporally adapted block matching algorithm, the scene change detection algorithm and picture type replacement algorithm which employed the results of the temporal subband analysis. A new block matching algorithm TABMA is capable of controlling the block matching area. According to the temporal activity distribution of objects, it allocates the search areas nonuniformly. The proposed SCD and PTR can prevent unavailable motion prediction for abrupt scene changes. Computer simulation results show that the proposed motion estimation scheme improve the quality of reconstructed sequence and reduces the number of block matching trials to 40% of the numbers of trials in conventional methods. The TSBA based scene change detection algorithm can detect the abruptly changed scenes in the intentionally combined sequence of this experiment without additional computations.

In this paper, a supervised adaptive equalization algorithm based on probability density function (PDF) matching method is introduced and its decision-feedback version is proposed for underwater communication channels with strong impulsive noise and severe multipath characteristics. The conventional least mean square (LMS) algorithm based on mean squared error (MSE) criterion has shown to be incapable of coping with impulsive noise and multipath effects commonly shown in underwater communications. The linear PDF matching algorithm, which shows immunity to impulsive noise, however, has revealed to yield unsatisfying performance under severe multipath environments with impulsive noise. On the other hand, the proposed nonlinear PDF matching algorithm with decision feedback proves in the simulation to possess superior robustness against impulsive noise and multipath characteristics of underwater communication channels.

This thesis proposes an adaptive variable-sized matching window method using the characteristic points of the image and a method to increase the reliability of the cross-consistency check to raise the correctness of the final disparity image. The proposed adaptive variable-sized window method segments the image with the color information, finds the characteristic points in each segmented image, and varies the size of the matching window according to the existence of the characteristic points inside the window. Also the proposed cross-consistency check method processes the two cases with the cost values corresponding to the best disparity and the second-best disparity: when the cost values themselves are too large and when the difference between the two cost values are too small. The two proposed methods were experimented with the four test images provided by the Middleburry site. As the results from the experiments, the proposed adaptive variable-sized matching window method decreased up to 18.2% of error ratio and the proposed cross-consistency check method increased up to 7.4% of reliability.
To transmit MPEG-2 video on an erroneous channel, a number of error control techniques He needed. Especially, error concealment techniques which can be implemented on receivers independent of transmitters are essential to obtain good video quality. In this paper, a motion adaptive boundary matching algorithm (MA-BMA) is presented for temporal error concealment. Before carrying out BMA, we perform error concealmmt by a motion vector prediction using neighboring motion vectors. If the candidate of error concealment is rot satisfied, search range and reliable boundary pixels are selected by the motion activity or motion vectors ane a damaged macroblock is concealed by applying the MA-BMA. This error concealment technique reduces the complexity and maintains PSNR gain of 0.3 0.7dB compared to the conventional BMA.
This paper presents a fast block-matching algorithm to improve the conventional Three-Step Search (TSS) based method. The proposed Comparison Fast Block Matching Algorithm (CFBMA) begins with DAB for adaptive search range to choose searching method, and searches a part of search window that has high possibility of motion vector like other partial search algorithms. The CFBMA also considers the opposite direction to reduce local minimum, which is ignored in almost conventional based partial search algorithms. CFBMA uses the summation half-stop technique to reduce the computational load. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves the high computational complexity compression effect and very close or better image quality compared with TSS, SES, NTSS based partial search algorithms.

An optical flow-based motion estimation algorithm is proposed for video coding. The algorithm uses block-matching motion estimation with an adaptive search region. The search region is computed from motion fields that are estimated based on the optical flow. The algorithm is based on the fact that true block-motion vectors have similar characteristics to optical flow vectors. Thereafter, the search region is computed using these optical flow vectors that include spatial relationships. In conventional block matching, the search region is fixed. In contrast, in the new method, the appropriate size and location of the search region are both decided by the proposed algorithm. The results obtained using test images show that the proposed algorithm can produce a significant improvement compared with previous block-matching algorithms.

It is well known that the uncertainty of the covariance parameters of the process noise (Q) and the observation errors (R) has a significant impact on Kalman filtering performance. Q and R influence the weight that the filter applies between the existing process information and the latest measurements. Errors in any of them may result in the filter being suboptimal or even cause it to diverge. The conventional way of determining Q and R requires good a priori knowledge of the process noises and measurement errors, which normally comes from intensive empirical analysis. Many adaptive methods have been developed to overcome the conventional Kalman filter's limitations. Starting from covariance matching principles, an innovative adaptive process noise scaling algorithm has been proposed in this paper. Without artificial or empirical parameters to be set, the proposed adaptive mechanism drives the filter autonomously to the optimal mode. The proposed algorithm has been tested using road test data, showing significant improvements to filtering performance.
In this paper, we propose a design method of PID adaptive controller based on frequency domain analysis. The method is based on the estimation of a nonparametric process model in the frequency domain and the determination of the PID controller parameters by achieving partial model matching so as to minimize a performance function concerning to relative model error between the loop transfer function of the control system and the desired system. In the design method the process is represented only by a discrete set of points on the Nyquist curve of the process. Therefore it is not necessary to estimate a full order parameterized process model.
