Performance Analysis of MlMO-OFDMA System Combined with Adaptive Beamforming (다중 입출력과 적응형 빔형성 기술 결합기법을 적용한 직교주파수분할 다중 접속시스템의 성능 분석)

  • This paper details the downlink performance analysis of an multiple antennas system that combines adaptive beamforming and spatial multiplexing (SM) Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO). The combination of MIMO signal processing with adaptive beamforming is applied to WiBro, the South Korean Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) system that follows the IEEE 802.16e standard. Performance analysis is based on the results of experiments and simulations obtained from a fixed-point simulation testbed. Simulations demonstrate that the MIMO Beamforming OFDMA system improves the required signal to noise ratio (SNR) over the conventional MIMO OFDMA system by 3 dB (QPSK) / 2.5 dB (16-QAM) for the frame error rate (FER) of 1% in the WiBro signal environments. From the implementation of the fixed-point simulation testbed and its experimental results, we verify the feasibility of the MIMO Beamforming technology for realizing a practical WiBro base station.

  • Multiple antenna technology, such as multiple input multiple output (MIMO), beamforming is one of the most promising technology for broadband wireless communication. In OFDM environment, we found that as the number of paths is increased, smart antenna system cannot fully exploit beamforming gain. In this paper, we propose a beamforming scheme and analyze the performance of the proposed beamforming scheme in WiBro smart antenna system. WiBro is an OFDMA-based multiple access service for wireless broadband multimedia environment. The proposed beamforming technique for WiBro smart antenna system can effectively improve the performance of the systems in multipath fading environment.

  • In order to detect underwater acoustic signals, various SONAR array types have been developed, including towed line array SONAR system (TASS). However, the TASS suffers from performance degradation which is caused by aperture deformation during a turn, because the TASS have a long-aperture array. A parabolic array model for turning TASS have been developed to solve the degradation problem occurred during a turn. In this paper, adaptive beamforming system is developed using the parabolic TASS model to cancel interference signals. The developed beamforming system is based on generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) structure and self-tuning adaptive algorithm.

  • Radar system must estimate exactly quickness and target in interference channel. Because interference of radio channel is multipath channel by artificial structure and nature structure. signal estimation is difficult. As long as, get rid of interference signal have been study digital beamforming, adaptive array antenna and so on. In this paper, proposed SPT-SALCMV beamforming algorithm get rid of coherent interference algorithm and adaptive array antenna. Adaptive array forms null pattern and reduces gains for direction of interference signal. And estimate signal that want by keeping gains of beam pattern changelessly to target signal direction. In this paper, proposed SPT-SALCMV algorithm was exactly received position of target. But general SPT-LCMV algorithm resulted beam error about 30degrees. Therefore, proved that SPT-SALCMV algerian that propose in this paper is more excellent than genaral SPT-LCMV algorithm.

  • In this paper, an adaptive beamforming algorithm, based on the Minimum Mean Squared Error (MMSE) criterion, is devised fer adaptive antenna applied to an MC-CDMA system. A new method for updating the weight vector is derived. Computer simulations show that proposed algorithm is capable of rejecting co-channel interference that affects the MC-CDMA system. Thus, the BER performance of the MC-CDMA system is improved compared with that of the MC-CDMA system without using adaptive antenna and that of the DS-CDMA system with adaptive antenna in multi-path Ricean fading channel.

  • In the underwater acoustic systems. we can receive signals and retrieve information about a target by using a beamforming method. The most important thing in the beamforming is finding the way to optimize the mainlobe beamwidth and the sidelobe level to the desired value. One of the prominent results of beamforming method. which has been studied. is Philip's weighting function method(1) . Philip's method adaptively adjusts its weights of array to meet the desired mainlobe beamwidth and sidelobe level. It is very similar to the design method in adaptive filter. However. this method cannot easily bring us to the desired sidelobe level due to complementary relation between mainlobe beamwidth and sidelobe level. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm using partial constrained adaptation. This method makes us circumvent the above problem and meet the specification of design easily. The proposed algorithm presents a Pattern synthesis that designer can easily control the mainlobe beamwidth and the sidelobe level to the desired value while calculation time to converge is decreasing.

Complementary Beamforming Method Increasing Throughput in ECMA UWB AAS Systems (ECMA UWB AAS 시스템의 전송률 향상을 위한 보완 빔 방법)

  • In this paper, the extension method of data transmission range as adapting AAS(Adaptive Antenna Systems) in ECMA(European Computer Manufacturers Association) standard MB-OFDM(MultiBand-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) UWB systems is proposed, and the complementary beamforming method which can solve hidden beam problem when we adapt AAS in CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) systems is proposed. To design the complementary beamforming, Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization is utilized, whose beam pattern exhibits perfect nulling at the main beam angles and provides uniform power for detection of channel utilization out of main beam. The proposed method can be utilized with any arbitrary beamforming when we make main beamforming. Through computer simulation, it can be shown that proposed AAS and complementary beamforming increase data transmission range from 2m to 3.95m in 480Mbps data transmission system and increase throughput about 20% as compared with general UWB AAS systems.

  • The communication system using multiple antennas improves link reliability or system capacity using tx & rx diversity, spatial multiplexing, and beamforming technique with services and characteristics of channel environment. This system is sensitive to spatial channel environment. In case of diversity, the lower correlation among links as a LoS environment, the better performance is acquired. In practical channel environment, However, there is high correlation, and there is high performance difference between ideal case and practical case. On the contrary, in case of beamforming, the higher correlation among links, the better performance is acquired. If we use the spatial adaptive transmission technique with spatial channel characteristics, we can get the system that maintains minimum link reliability and guarantees the overall system performance. In this paper, we propose the adaptive transmission and reception technique which use diversity or beamforming technique with channel characteristics.

  • For the purpose of development of anti-jamming GPS receiver we have developed an anti-jamming algorithm and its Simulink implementation model. The algorithm used here is a form of Space-Time Adaptive Processing (STAP) filter which is well known as an effective way to remove wideband jamming signals. We have chosen Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) block-adaptive beamforming algorithm for our development since it can provide relatively fast convergence speed to reach optimal weights, stable and high suppression capability on various types of jamming signals. We will show modeling results for this MVDR type adaptive beamformer and some simulation results. We also show the integrity of the demodulated satellite signals and the accuracy of resulting navigation solutions after anti-jamming operation.

  • This paper proposes a new application of Fuzzy logic to Variable Step Size Least Mean Square (VS-LMS) adaptive beamforming algorithm in CDMA systems. The proposed algorithm adjusts the step size of the Least Mean Square (LMS) by using the application of Fuzzy logic in which the increase or decrease of step size depends on the fuzzy inference results of the Mean Square Error (MSE). Computer simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has a better capacity of tracking compared with the conventional LMS algorithms and other variable step size LMS algorithms.
