  • The performance of a coherent rake receiver of DS-CDMA systems is significantly affected by the accuracy of channel estimation. The performance of the channel estimator can be improved by employing a channel estimation filter (CEF) whose impulse response is adjusted according to the channel condition. In this paper, we consider the design of an adaptive channel estimator for DS-CDMA systems with a pilot channel. The proposed channel estimator estimates the channel condition, which can be performed without haying exact a priori information on the operating condition. The estimated channel condition adjusts the impulse response of the CEF. Numerical results show that the use of the proposed channel estimator can provide BER performance quite robust to a wide range of channel condition.

  • The paper makes an investigation on a speed and stator flux linkage estimator for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) sensorless drives using the technology of model reference adaptive system (MRAS). The designed estimator including two models and two adaptive estimating laws is proved to be stable by the Popov hyper-stability theory. The speed, the stator flux linkage and the resistance are estimated accurately by the proposed estimator while overcoming the shortcoming of the traditional one. The experiment results demonstrate its effectiveness.

  • This paper proposes Fuzzy Speed Estimator using Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) as a adaptive law in Model Reference Adaptive System(MRAS) in order to realize the speed-sensorless control of an induction motor. Fuzzy Speed Estimator estimates the speed of an induction motor with a rotor flux of the reference model and the adjustable model in MRAS. Fuzzy logic controller reduces the error of the rotor flux between the reference model and the adjustable model using the error and the change of error of the rotor flux as the input of FLC. The experiment is executed to verify the propriety and the effectiveness of the proposed speed estimator.

  • In order to realize the speed control of an induction motor, the information of the rotor speed is needed. So the speed sensor as an encoder or a pulse generator is used to obtain it. But the use of speed sensor occur the some problems in the control system of an induction motor. To solve the problems, the appropriate speed estimation algorithm is used instead of the speed sensor. Also there is the limitation to improve the speed control performance of an induction motor using the existing speed estimation algorithm. Therefore, in this paper, intelligent speed estimator using Fuzzy-Neural systems as adaptive laws in Model Reference Adaptive System is proposed so as to improve the existing estimation algorithm and ,using the rotor speed estimated by the Proposed estimator, the speed control of an induction motor without speed sensor is performed. The computer simulation and the experiment is executed to prove the performance of the speed control system usinu the proposed speed estimator.

  • In this paper an adaptive channel estimator is proposed and investigated which improves the receiving performance for the DVB-T system. A conventional estimator for the system consists of a two-dimensional Wiener filter which is implemented as a cascade of one-dimensional filters, and the filter is operating with the filter coefficients set which is selected from the four different sets according to the channel environment. Our proposed estimator uses the filter coefficients which is interpolated by the two closest coefficients sets. The proposed scheme shows an improvement of 5 to 10dB in SNR compared to the conventional scheme.

  • In this paper we generalize and improve the refined Pickands estimator of Drees (1995) for the extreme value index. The finite-sample performance of the refined Pickands estimator is not good particularly when the sample size n is small. For each fixed k = 1,2,..., a new estimator is defined by a convex combination of k different generalized Pickands estimators and its asymptotic normality is established. Optimal weights defining the estimator are also determined to minimize the asymptotic variance of the estimator. Finally, letting k depend upon n, we see that the resulting estimator has a better finite-sample behavior as well as a better asymptotic efficiency than the refined Pickands estimator.

  • In order to achieve the high quality output voltage of single-phase voltage source inverters, in this paper an Adaptive Complementary Sliding Mode Control (ACSMC) is proposed. Firstly, the dynamics model of the single-phase inverter with lumped uncertainty including parameter variations and external disturbances is derived. Then, the conventional Sliding Mode Control (SMC) and Complementary Sliding Mode Control (CSMC) are introduced separately. However, when system parameters vary or external disturbance occurs, the controlling performance such as tracking error, response speed et al. always could not satisfy the requirements based on the SMC and CSMC methods. Consequently, an ACSMC is developed. The ACSMC is composed of a CSMC term, a compensating control term and a filter parameters estimator. The compensating control term is applied to compensate for the system uncertainties, the filter parameters estimator is used for on-line LC parameter estimation by the proposed adaptive law. The adaptive law is derived using the Lyapunov theorem to guarantee the closed-loop stability. In order to decrease the control system cost, an inductor current estimator is developed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed controller is validated through Matlab/Simulink and experiments on a prototype single-phase inverter test bed with a TMS320LF28335 DSP. The simulation and experimental results show that compared to the conventional SMC and CSMC, the proposed ACSMC control strategy achieves more excellent performance such as fast transient response, small steady-state error, and low total harmonic distortion no matter under load step change, nonlinear load with inductor parameter variation or external disturbance.

  • This paper deals with the adaptive state estimation which is designed specially for a tracking system containing unknown and/or radomly varying hybride noises to provide an accurate estimate of the system state. The range of discrete vectyor v in finite numbers(N) for this adaptive estimator span the entire possible range of impulse noise levels such as the binomial, the edge, the Tchebyscheff, the binomal-edge and the Tchbyscheff-edge distribution. A feed forward path consisting of zero detector and data selector is incoporated with the conventional adaptive state estimator so as to provide accurate estimations. Despite the large and randomly varying hybrid noises, results of computer simulations for the various discrete vector levels show that this adptive state estimator is turned out to be a good system with relatively small implse errors.

  • In this paper, we propose a new high resolution frequency estimator for real sinusoids by using short time data and the AWLS/MFT (Adaptive Weighted Least Squares/ Modulation Function Technique) algorithm. Monte-Carlo simulations verify better performances of the proposed frequency estimator and demonstrate that the proposed AWLS sinusoidal estimator is a high resolution estimator.

  • This paper proposes indirect adaptive pole placement adaptive controller using a modified least squares method. If an adaptive controller has good performance, it is necessary that an estimator have fast convergence. This paper presents a modified least squares method which guarantees the stability of estimator and has fast convergence. In this algorithm, information on signal level is obtained from the determinent of covariance matrix and according to it, weighting factor is tuned.
