Objectives : During the past three decades there has been a significant evolution of laser acupuncture application in the nature of the clinical approach and the research of traditional medicine and laser therapy field. However, there have been no standard and guideline of laser equipment can be applied as laser acupuncture. This study aims to investigate the condition of laser equipment required as a laser acupuncture method. Methods : First, we performed literature search using the Medline(from 1999 to Oct 2008) to confirm types and ranges of laser equipments that can be applied as laser acupuncture. In addition, we investigated the characters of acupoints such as sites and depths, and compared with penetrating depths of each laser. Results : A total of 37 articles for clinical studies using laser acupuncture were selected, and 41 lasers were used. GaAs laser was used three times, GaAlAs laser 14, InGaAlP 18, HeNe laser 4, and Argon laser and CO2 laser were used one time, respectively. From all 361 points of fourteen meridians, depths of 341 points(94.5%) were 1 cun(2.3-3.2cm) or less. The mean depth of all points was 0.48 cun(1.1-1.5cm). Hence, it appeared that the majority of therapeutic lasers satisfied with the condition. HeNe, InGaAlP, GaAlAs, GaAs lasers are recommended for laser acupuncture, however, it may plausible that other surgical lasers could be used as the laser acupuncture, because it have the biostimulation effect to some extent, too. Conclusions : It is suggested that to select appropriate laser type and give the adequate output power to reach the acupoints under the skin using laser acupuncture. Further evaluation and research for the condition of laser acupuncture are warranted.

This report is aimed to investigate the effect of Traditional Korean Therapy (TKT) in treating recurred breast cancer metastasized to lung. A 53-year-old woman who was diagnosed as left breast cancer and underwent surgery, adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy in early 2009 was admitted for the treatment of recurred, metastatic lung cancer in late 2012. She was treated with TKT including acupuncture, moxibustion and pharmacopuncture. The effect was evaluated with positron emission tomogram and computed tomogram (PET-CT). The metastatic tumors in both lungs were disappeared after the treatment for about 2 months. These results suggest that TKT is a therapeutic method to treat metastatic lung cancer originated from breast cancer.
The aim of this study is to find out the relationships between the vocal sounds and physiologie and pathologic mechanisms based on the Eum-yang and five phases theory[陰陽五行論]. Firstly, concrete characters of vital rhythm of five-viscera were analyzed and patterns of the five-note in oriental music were converted into that of western music, then it was investigated, the possibility of oriental music therapy using sounds as stimulation methods like herbs, acupuncture, and moxibustion. In conclusion, it was found that controlling the Five-visceral vital rhythm by sounds could be used as one of methods for prevention and treatment of disceases, growing on and balancing a body, etc.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to present clinical utility of therapeutic exercise on the neck and shoulder parts based on the movement system impairment syndrome(MSIS) as Dong-Qi therapy of the Dong-Si Acupuncture and was to examine which Dong-Si acupoints were most effective and non-invasive when performing therapeutic exercise of the MSIS. Methods : Totally eight therapeutic exercises correspondent to eight neck and shoulder MSIS were summarized and tabulated from the Diagnosis and Treatment of Movement Impairment Syndrome and Movement System Impairment Syndromes Of The Extremities, Cervical and Thoracic Spines by Sahrmann SA. Together with the MSIS summaries, acupuncture points and Dong-Qi therapy were summarized and tabulated from Yangweijiequanji 1 and Yangweijiequanji 2 by Yangweijie. According to the posture and movement of the MSIS exercise, effective and non-invasive acupoints were selected. Thereafter, clinical pilot study which five normal volunteers participated in were performed to examine whether these acupoints resulted in any side effects of acupuncture therapy such as pain and distortion of the needle during the MSIS exercises. Results : Through clinical pilot study, ZhongZi, ZhongXian, ZhengJin, ZhengZong and MuLiu in a sitting position, and HuaGuYi, ZhongZi and ZhongXian in a supine position were finally determined as safe and non-invasive Dong-Si acupoints to treat cervical pain. In terms of shoulder pain, ZuQianJin, ZuWuJin, HuaGuEr and JianZhong in a supine position, SiHuaZhong, ZuQianJin, ZuWuJin, QuLing, JianZhong, ShenGuan and JiuLi in a standing position, and ZuQianJin, ZuWuJin, HuaGuEr, QuLing and JianZhong in a prone position were finally accepted as safe and non-invasive Dong-Si acupoints. Conclusion : It is concluded that Dong-Si acupoints can be safely and non-invasively used together with therapeutic exercises of the MSIS to treat cervical and shoulder pains.
Objectives : The aim of this study is to find the acoustic characteristics of acupuncture therapy effects on post-stroke dysarthria. Methods : Acupuncture therapy was applied for four to six weeks by inserting needles into eight acupuncture points, CV23, CV24, bilateral 'Sheyu' and ipsilateral ST4, ST6 and contralateral LI4, ST36 on facial palsy side. All the speech samples were collected, pre-treatment and post-treatment, using Computerized Speech Lab. VOT and TD of each speech sample and vowel formant(F1&F2) were analyzed on spectrogram. Result : VOT and TD were decreased after treatment. F1 was decreased, and F2 was increased after treatment. Conclusions : This suggests that acupuncture therapy improves symptoms of post-stroke dysarthria by stimulating articulation organs such as tongue, lips, cheeks, larynx and pharynx.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate whether warm-needling is more effective than acupuncture in relieving the pain and improving the symptoms of knee osteoarthritis(OA). Methods : 76 volunteers with knee OA participated in the study. The subjects were randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group received warm-needling(n=38), while the other group received acupuncture(n=38). Sixteen sessions of warm-needling or acupuncture were conducted on the pain region of each problematic knee over a period of 8 weeks. The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC) scores, physical health score based on the 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey(SF-36) and the Global Assessment(PGA) was measured. Results : Compared to the acupuncture group, the warm-needling group showed a significant decrease in pain, function, and total WOMAC scores according to the Mann-Whitney U-test. The PGA scores of the warm-needling group also showed a significant improvement compared to the acupuncture group. Conclusions : Warm-needling showed a greater pain relief effect on knee OA compared to the acupuncture group. These findings suggest that warm-needling may be a promising alternative therapy for treating knee OA.
Objectives This study is aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Chuna therapy for spondylolisthesis. This is a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized experiment research to verify the effect of moxibustion therapy on efficient management of daily living disabilities and sleep patterns in elderly women with chronic low back pain. Total 12 sessions of moxibustion therapy were applied to elderly women(30 subjects in an experimental group and 30 subjects in a control group) in G City once a week for 12 weeks from March 15th to May $31^{st}$ 2015. Then the follow-up study was conducted 2 weeks after the post survey. For moxibustion, was applied to Shen-shu, Ashi point, Ta chang shu, Yang kuan and Yosu. 5 sheets of moxibustion were applied to 7 acupuncture points of Mugeukboyang moxibustion; Zu san li & Chu chi, Chung wan, Chung chi & Shui tao, Fei shu, Kao hung and Tien shu, Wijung respectively and experimental treatment was conducted. For assessing the degree of back pain, Visual Analog Scale(VAS) developed by Scott & Huskisson(1979) was used and for measuring the degree of daily living disability, Oswestry Disability Index, which was developed by Fairbank et al(1980) and translated and revised by Yim, Hyeon-sul et al.(1998), was used. For measuring sleep patterns, the sleep pattern measurement tool developed by Oh, Jin-su, Song, Mi-soon and Kim, Sin-mi(1998) was used. For data analysis, SPSS/WIN 18.0 was employed and Chi-square test, t-test and repeated measures ANOVA were performed. There were significant differences in pain score(F=2510.32, p<.001), daily living disability score(F=1937.82, p<.001) and sleep pattern score((F=15.54, p<.001) of elderly women that were provided with moxibustion therapy, compared to the control group. Therefore, it was found that moxibustion therapy made a positive contribution to reduction in pain and daily living disabilities and improvement in sleep quality. Based on this study finding, there is a need to apply moxibustion therapy to elderly people with chronic low back pain as a nursing intervention in future.
