Recently, owing to increased interest in low-carbon energy supplies, renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics and wind turbines in distribution networks have received considerable attention for generating clean and unlimited energy. The presence of energy storage systems (ESSs) in the promising field of active distribution networks (ADNs) would have direct impact on power system problems such as encountered in probabilistic distributed generation (DG) model studies. Hence, the optimal procedure is offered herein, in which the simultaneous placement of an ESS, photovoltaic-based DG, and wind turbine-based DG in an ADN is taken into account. The main goal of this paper is to maximize the net present value of the loss reduction benefit by considering the price of electricity for each load state. The proposed framework consists of a scenario tree method for covering the existing uncertainties in the distribution network's load demand as well as DG. The collected results verify the considerable effect of concurrent installation of probabilistic DG models and an ESS in defining the optimum site of DG and the ESS and they demonstrate that the optimum operation of an ESS in the ADN is consequently related to the highest value of the loss reduction benefit in long-term planning as well. The results obtained are encouraging.
The increasing penetration of distributed energy resources on the distribution networks have brought a number of technical impacts where voltage and thermal variations have been identified as the dominant effects. Active network management in distribution networks aims to integrate distributed energy resources with flexible network management so that distributed energy resources are organized to make better use of existing capacity and infrastructure. This paper propose active solutions which aims to solve the voltage and thermal issues in a distributed manner utilizing a collaborative approach. The proposed algorithms have been fully tested on a distribution network with distributed generation units.

Grid connected PV(Photovoltic) generation systems are becoming and actual and general. The power output of PV system is directly affected by the weather conditions. And when AC power supply is needed, power conversion by an inverter and a MPPT control are necessary. The PV power generation system can be treated to a harmonics source for the power distribution system. So, the PV system combined the function of active filter system can be useful applied in power distribution system. AF(Active Filters) intended for harmonic solutions are expending their functions from harmonic compensation of nonlinear loads into harmonic isolation between utilities and consumer. With the test analysis of the proposed control strategy of PV-AF system, the outcome of the test shows the stability and effectiveness of the proposed PV-AF system. The various capability of AF has been proved in previous research and usage. In this paper, authors present a DSP controlled PV-AF system for power conditioning in three-phase industrial or commercial power systems and verify it through experimental results.
In this study, the polyurethane microcapsules for non-aqueous dyeing containing iron oxide and disperse dyes were prepared by in-situ polymerization method using hexamethylene diisocyanate(HDI) with ethylene glycol(EG). And the size, shape, and particle size distribution of microcapsules prepared were investigated. The size and shape of microcapsule were observed by optical microscope and scanning elecron microscope. The particle size distribution was analyzed by particle size analyzer. The microcapsule size and its distribution were largely effected by the existance of surface active agent in the system. When a surfactant did not exist in the system, the size distribution of microcapsules prepared was much uneven. By adding a surfactant, this phenomenon was disappeared. And the size of microcapsule was also effeced by the hydrophobicity of core material(disperse dye). It was considered due to the difference of dispersity of core materials. And the size of microcapsule prepared was inversely proportional to the stirring speed.

This paper describes a 100 kW high-efficiency isolated DC-DC converter for DC distribution system. The DC-DC converter consists of two dual-active-bridge (DAB) converters in parallel. The operating principle of the DAB converter is explained, and the algorithm for parallel operation of the DAB converters is proposed. Simulation and experiments are conducted to verify the performance of the proposed system. Experimental results demonstrate that the developed converter excellently marks 97.4 percent of peak efficiency under its normal operating condition.
Active hybrid solid state transformer(AHSST) is newly emerging as a device to maintan the power quality of power distribution. AHSST has a simple structure in which a power electronics device is connected in series to a conventional distribution transformer. The connected power electronics device maintains the constant voltage regardless of the primary grid voltage fluctuation through the secondary voltage control to improve the power quality. It also has a simple structure compare to conventional solid state transformer system and can achieve the same performance with fractionally-rated converter. This paper proposes an multi-level converter based on AHSST system that has a simpler control method and wider voltage control range than the conventional AHSST. The proposed system is verified by simulations.

The presence of responsive loads in the promising active distribution networks (ADNs) would definitely affect the power system problems such as distributed generations (DGs) studies. Hence, an optimal procedure is proposed herein which takes into account the simultaneous placement of DGs and smart meters (SMs) in ADNs. SMs are taken into consideration for the sake of successful implementing of demand response programs (DRPs) such as direct load control (DLC) with end-side consumers. Seeking to power loss minimization, the optimization procedure is tackled with genetic algorithm (GA) and tested thoroughly on 69-bus distribution test system. Different scenarios including variations in the number of DG units, adaptive power factor (APF) mode for DGs to support reactive power, and individual or simultaneous placing of DGs and SMs have been established and interrogated in depth. The obtained results certify the considerable effect of DRPs and APF mode in determining the optimal size and site of DGs to be connected in ADN resulting to the lowest value of power losses as well.

In this study, a new voltage-balancing dual-active bridge converter that integrates a DAB converter with a voltage balancer is proposed for a bipolar DC distribution system. The proposed converter is configured to connect two loads to the transformer secondary center tap of the DAB converter, and no additional components are added. The proposed converter has the same operation as the conventional DAB converter, and it makes both output voltages similar. Moreover, the imbalanced current offset between the two loads is bypassed only on the secondary side of the transformer. Consequently, the proposed converter integrates a voltage balancer without any additional components, and no additional loss occurs in the corresponding components. Thus, high efficiency and high power density can be achieved. The feasibility of the proposed converter is verified using 3 kW prototypes under 380 V input and 190/190 V output conditions.
Waterworks facilities inevitably experience some amount of leakage even if there is a lot of investment or state-of-the-art technology that is applied such as DMA(District Metered Area) system construction, leakage detection, repair, pipe rehabilitation, etc. The primary reason is the leakage is naturally restored over time. In the UK, this restoration characteristic is defined as NRR(Natural rate of rise of leakage) and used to decision making for prioritizing active leakage control of DMAs. However, this restoration characteristic is well recognized, but researches on NRR in the water distribution system are insufficient in Korea. In this study, the estimation method of NRR was developed suitable for applicating in Korea considering of SCADA data, water infrastructure, and water usage patterns by modification of the UK's NRR method. The proposed method was applied to 9 DMAs and verified it's applicability by comparing with the other water loss performance indicators. It is expected that the proposed method can be used to support decision making for sustainable NRW(Nor-revenue water) management in the water distribution system.

The Active Superconducting Current Controller (ASCC) is a new type of Superconducting Fault Current Limiters (SFCL) which can limit the fault current in different modes. It also has the particular abilities of compensating active and reactive powers for electrical networks. In this paper, it is confirmed that the performance of ASCC in different operating modes introduces a limiting impedance in series with the network which can even degrade the transient stability and the operation of the Over-Current Relays (OCR) employed in a power system. In addition, the model of a three-phase ASCC is simulated, and the effect of descriptive modes on the current limiting level is investigated. For the transient stability analysis, a single machine-infinite bus system is tested, and the effect of operation modes is studied based on an equal area criterion obtaining the critical time and the critical angle. Modifying the setting parameters of OCR such as time dial and pick-up current, the protective coordination is also studied in different operating modes.
