A 3.3V 30mW 200MHz CMOS upconversion mixer using replica transconductance (복제 V-I 변환기를 이용한 3.3V 30mW 200MHz CMOS 업 컨버젼 믹서)

  • In this paper, the power efficient linear upconversion mixer which is a functional circuit in transmit path of intermediate frequency(IF) part of Code Division Multiple (CDMA) cellular phone was explained. In generally, the low CMOS devices limits the implementation of upconversion mixer especially for lower loads. Using replica transconductor, the linear range is extended up to the limit. Thiscircuit was imprlemented using $0.8{\mu}\textrm{m}$ N-well CMOS technology with 2-poly/2-metal. The active area of chip is $0.53mm{\times}0.92mm$. The power consumption is 30mW with 3.3V suply voltage. The 1dB conpression characteristics is -27.3dB with $25{\Omega}$. load and being applied by 2-tone input signal. The mixer operates properly above 200MHz.

  • DSRC provides high speed radio link between Road Side Equipment and On-Board Equipment within the narrow communication area. In this paper, a 5.8 GHz down-conversion mixer for DSRC communication system was designed and fabricated using 0.8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ SiGe HBT process technology and RF/LO matching circuits, RF/LO input balun circuits, and If output balun circuit were all integrated on chip. The chip size of fabricated mixer was 1.9 mm${\times}$1.3 mm and the measured performance was 7.5 ㏈ conversion gain, -2.5 ㏈m input IP3, 46 ㏈ LO to RF isolation, 56 ㏈ LO to IF isolation, current consumption of 21 mA for 3.0 V supply voltage.

  • The dynamic behavior of fatty acid monolayers at the air-water interface was investigated using a displacement current-measuring technique coupled with the so-called Langmuir film technique and also the dipole moment of the acids was determined. The displacement current flowing though a short circuit wan generated only when induced charges on an electrode flowing though suspended in air was changed by monolayer compression. The displacement current measurement was found to be a very sensitive method used for a better understanding of the relationship between the structure and function of the monolayers placed on the water surface and it was also found to be a very useful method for detecting the dynamic motion of molecules in the entire range from the so-called gaseous state to solid state at the same time. In the paper investigate fatty monolayer dynamic state and electric property character. As result. Displacement current generate higher nearly distance electrodel and water surface. Also, Molecule behavior was found pocess active higher thermal.

  • This paper presents a wide dynamic range radio-frequency (RF) root-mean-square (RMS) power detector using an automatic gain control (AGC) loop. The AGC loop consists of a variable gain amplifier (VGA), RMS conversion block and gain control block. The VGA exploits dB-linear gain characteristic of the cascade VGA. The proposed circuit utilizes full-wave squaring and generates a DC voltage proportional to the RMS of an input RF signal. The proposed RMS power detector operates from 500MHz to 5GHz. The detecting input signal range is from 0 dBm to -70 dBm or more with a conversion gain of -4.53 mV/dBm. The proposed RMS power detector is designed in a 65-nm 1.2-V CMOS process, and dissipates a power of 5 mW. The total active area is $0.0097mm^2$.

  • This paper describes that how to enhance the robustness of semiconductor TRM(Transmitter and Receiver Module) through the bias sequencing and tuning the switching time. Previous circuit designs focused on improving the MDS(Minimum Detection Signal) performance. Because TRM has critical problem which transmission output signal leak into receiver by it's compact design. Under this condition, TRM was frequently broken down within the MTBF(Mean Time Between Failure). This study proposes the bias sequencing and tuning the switching time to improve above problem. At first, we collected major failure symptom and infer it's cause. Second, we demonstrated it's effect by derive the improvement method and apply it to our system. And finally we can convinced that the proposed method clear the frequent failure problem with its lack of isolation.

  • In this paper, the 100 watt unit ower amplifier using temperature independent biasing for DTV (Digital Television) repeater application is designed and fabricated. The DC operation point of this unit power amplifier at temperature variation from $20^{\circ}C$ to $100^{\circ}C$ is fixed by active bias circuit. The variation of current consumption in the 100 watt unit power amplifier has an excellent characteristics of less than 0.6A. The implemented unit power amplifier has the gain over 12dB, the gain flatness of less than 0.5dB and input and output return, loss of than 15dB over the DTV repeater frequency range (470~806MHz). This unit power amplifier yields intermodulation distortion(IMD) of more than 32dBc at 2MHz offset, which satisfies the IMD at output power of 100 watt (50dBm).

  • We report the performance of an open-frame type low-voltage high-current DC-DC converter module developed using an active clamp forward converter circuit and single ended rectifier. The converter module is designed with the specifications of an 3.3V output voltage, 30A output current, 100W output power and 36-75V input voltage. The synchronous rectifier is used to reduce the conduction loss at high current level and constant current control using precision PCB resistance is adapted to enhance the over current protection function in the system configuration. A prototype converter module is successfully implemented within 8mm height and quarter brick size (58x37mm) and recorded an $95W/in^3$ power density, 90.6$\%$ efficiency and 0.07$\%$ voltage regulation for the entire Input voltage range, thereby demonstrating its application potentials to future telecommunication electronics.

  • This paper presents a wide dynamic range complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor with column capacitor and feedback structure. The designed circuit has been fabricated by using $0.18{\mu}m$ 1-poly 6-metal standard CMOS technology. This sensor has dual mode operation using combination of active pixel sensor (APS) and passive pixel sensor (PPS) structure. The proposed pixel operates in the APS mode for high-sensitivity in normal light intensity, while it operates in the PPS mode for low-sensitivity in high light intensity. The proposed PPS structure is consisted of a conventional PPS with column capacitor and feedback structure. The capacitance of column capacitor is changed by controlling the reference voltage using feedback structure. By using the proposed structure, it is possible to store more electric charge, which results in a wider dynamic range. The simulation and measurement results demonstrate wide dynamic range feature of the proposed PPS.

  • This paper reports a novel structural health monitoring (SHM) technique for detecting de-bonding between a concrete beam and CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) sheet that is attached to the concrete surface. To achieve this, a multi-scale actuated sensing system with a self-sensing circuit using piezoelectric active sensors is applied to the CFRP laminated concrete beam structure. In this self-sensing based multi-scale actuated sensing, one scale provides a wide frequency-band structural response from the self-sensed impedance measurements and the other scale provides a specific frequency-induced structural wavelet response from the self-sensed guided wave measurement. To quantify the de-bonding levels, the supervised learning-based statistical pattern recognition was implemented by composing a two-dimensional (2D) plane using the damage indices extracted from the impedance and guided wave features.
