  • Recently, ubiquitous computing paradigm considers as a tool for making innovation and competitive strength in manufacturing industry like other industries. Particularly, the location-based service that enables us to trace real-time logistics make effective management of schedules for inventory control, facilities and equipments, jobs planning, and facilitate the processes of information management and intelligence, which relate with ERP and SCM in organizations. Our study tries to build the location-based system for products of semiconductors in manufacturing place and suggests the good conditions and effective tracking procedures for positions of products. Our study show that the system is good for the saving of time in tracking products, however, it has to be improved in terms of accuracy. The study verifies the application of RFID technology in manufacturing industry and suggests the improvement of photograph process through RFID. In addition, our research introduces the future operation of FAB in semiconductors' processes that relate with real-time automation and RFID in manufacturing company.

  • This paper presents the design and analysis of LNA-Mixer for 2.45GHz RFID reader. The LNA is implemented by PCSNIM method for low power consumption. The Mixer is implemented by using the Gilbert-type configuration, current bleeding technique, and the resonating technique for the tail capacitance. The connection between the two designed circuits is made by active balun. This LNA-Mixer has about 35dB for -40dBm input RF power, LO power is 0dBm and RF frequency is 2.45 GHz and IIP3 is -4dBm. The layout of LNA-Mixer for one-chip design in a $0.18-{\mu}m$ TSMC process has 2.6mm ${\times}$ 1.3mm size.

  • A power management controller circuit with switched capacitor mode down regulator and battery charger block for semi-active RFID tags was proposed and fabricated. The main purposes of the proposed switched capacitor mode down regulator and battery charger block are to reduce standby current and to provide a self-controlled thin film battery charger by detecting the received RF power, respectively. Fabricated chip area is $360,000{\mu}m^2$ and measured standby current was about $1.3{\mu}A$. To further reduction of standby current, a wake-up circuit has to be included in the power management controller.

  • In this paper, we presented an active RFID system in 2.45GHz range including LNA, Mixer and gain block. And in this work, a link budget model for RFID applications are proposed. We describe the detailed design and implementation of our system. Our components in RFID system has features such as low Noise Figure, reliable energy budget, and standard compliance with ISO 18000-4. Our receiver is effective for development and evaluation of prototype applications because of the flexibility of the design hardware. So, our platform will be suitable for versatile item management applications.

  • Global interests in RFID are increased and Korean government and companies make an active effort to propagate and spread RFID. Due to the overwhelming advantages of RFID system in comparison with existing bar code system, ripple effects on logistics sector among the utilizing fields of RFID technology are expected to be great, but application of RFID system is lowly progressed unlike the expectation of several experts. Therefore, this research extracts precedent studies on theoretical background, applying fields, promotion condition and domestic/foreign parts of RFID system, factors for operating domestic RFID system and effects and considers the effects of RFID's external variables on easiness and effectiveness of TAM. It confirms the relations of RFID applying effects for companies applying and utilizing RFID and verifies the relations among the effects for application of RFID system, accepting intention of RFID system and applying effects. Based on the results of analysis, it should play a role of good guide for all of companies and institution who will introduce RFID system to all of Korean logistics fields, make policies and systems which promote RFID acceptance nationally and socially and play a role of guide making confident climate for RFID technolog

  • In this paper, a dual-band antenna is proposed for the RF power harvester system as well as RFID tag. The proposed antenna operates as the passive and active RFID tag antenna in the UHF and microwave band, respectively. In addition, to charge the battery of an active RFID tag in the microwave band, it harvest the RF signal for tagging from the passive RFID tag antenna in the UHF band. The proposed antenna operates in the UHF band (917~923.5 MHz) and microwave band (2.4~2.45 GHz). In order to obtain the dual-band operation, the dipole structure and meander parasitic elements are proposed as the ${\lambda}/2$ and $1{\lambda}$ dipole antenna, respectively. The radiating dipole structure in the microwave band acts as the coupled feed for the meander parasitic elements in the UHF band. The impedance bandwidth (VSWR < 2) of the proposed antenna covers 917~923.5 MHz (UHF band) and 2.4~2.45 GHz (Microwave band). Measured total efficiencies are over 45 % in the UHF band and over 70 % in the microwave band. Peak gains are over 0.18 dBi and 2.8 dBi in the UHF and microwave band with an omni-directional radiation pattern, respectively.

  • CSD is Active RFID based Container Security Device which is proposed by the U.S Department of Home Security. It is mounted inside the container to sense opening of the container door. ConTracer is the CSD which is developed in this research whose major features are sensing door opening status as well as history inquiring on internal environment and shock to the container by mounting the temperature/ humidity/ shock sensors. Moreover, its RFID frequency bandwidth uses 433MHz and 2.4GHz to correspond actively to the frequency used by different countries. This paper introduces the development trend of CSD, compares the ConTracer which is developed thru this research and other company's CSD, and introduces CSD System which is designed and established using ConTracer. Finally, the implemented CSD System is verified by applying the demonstration service to container distribution between Korea and China.

  • In this paper, we propose a simplified tag collection algorithm to improve the performances of ISO/IEC 18000-7, which is a standard for an active RFID system. The proposed algorithm modifies the collection command that enables to start a tag collection round. The modified collection command includes the results of the listen period response for the previous collection round. Tags that receive the collection command check the collision status for their responses. If there is no collision, tags transmit their additional data and go into the sleep mode without the point-to-point read command and sleep command. A collection round for the standard consists of a collection command and response, a read command and response, and sleep command. On the other hand, in the proposed algorithm, a collection round consists of a collection command and response. The simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm can improve the identification delay about 16% compared with the standard when the number of tags are 300.

  • In this paper, the antenna of a small active RFID for 433MHz is proposed, and the proposed antenna is a kind of built-in antenna, which uses IFA structure. The performance was improved by the change of the spacing between the feed point and short strip, inserting the meander line structure in a radiator, and varying the gap between the radiator and the ground plane in the proposed antenna. To confirm the characteristics of the antenna parameters, HFSS from ANSYS Inc. was used for the analysis. The frequency band of 433MHz Active RFID is from 433.67 to 434.17 MHz. There is a value of return loss less than -9.54 dB in 433MHz band of the active RFID, and the maximum antenna gain is -4.28dBi. The Jig size of the proposed antenna is $72{\times}44{\times}1mm$, and the size of the antenna area is $35.5{\times}19.5mm$. The result proved the possibility of the practical use on miniaturized 433MHz antenna using IFA structure that came from comparing and analyzing the measured and simulated data of the antenna.
