  • This paper describes the fabrication techniques and analysis of hybrid composite plates with an active frequency selective surface (FSS). For fabricating hybrid composite plate with active FSS, an active FSS with a resonance frequency located in the C band can obtained using varactor diodes. The hybrid composite plate was first designed and simulated to determine its electromagnetic properties using the commercial software HFSS. After simulation, active FSSs and hybrid composite plates were fabricated by mounting with varactor diodes. After fabrication, free space measurement was used to determine the electromagnetic properties of active FSS and the hybrid composite plates. The simulation and experimental results were in good agreement.

  • In this paper, an efficient means to estimate the dispersion characteristics of active FSS (or ESS) is presented. We numerically investigate the effective permittivity and the transmission coefficient of 2D metal-fiber composites using linear-lumped impedance loading. We modify the GEC method which is applied to 2D fiber composite material with arbitrary fiber orientation. We show that by varying the impedance value it is possible to control the resonance frequency of the array as well as the bandwidth.

  • Objectives : We aimed to explore the relationship among fatigue and perceived stress, depressive mood in the working population. We also examined associations with demographic and life style factors and investigated the effect of individual coping skills on these associations. Methods : Fatigue Severity Scale(FSS), Perceived Stress Scale(PSS), Brief Encounter Psychosocial Instrument - Korean version(BEPSI-K), Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), Stress Coping Skill Questionnaire were administered to 621 civil servants. All of above and other demographic factors are self-administered questionnaire survey and this study is cross sectional. Results : Mean FSS score was 3.04 which was lower than 3.22, the severity cut off score. FSS, PSS, BEPSI-K, BDI were all higher in female. Subjects with active coping skills showed relatively low fatigue, perceived stress, depressive mood than those with passive coping skills. Logistic regression analyses indicated that the PSS, BDI, BEPSI-K in working population increase the risk of fatigue and regular exercise lowers the risk. Conclusions : Adults who were afflicted by stress, experienced depressive mood or were physically inactive were at much higher risk of feeling fatigue. Since no other large data sets are available for fatigue, the results from this study could serve a very useful purpose, to furnish a basis for comparison with future research results based on more complete data.

  • Fibrous supercapacitors (FSs), owing to their high power density, good safety characteristic, and high flexibility, have recently been in the spotlight as energy storage devices for wearable electronics. However, despite these advantages, FCs face many challenges related to their active material of carbon fiber (CF). CF has low surface area and poor wettability between electrode and electrolyte, which result in low capacitance and poor long-term stability at high current densities. To overcome these limits, fibrous supercapacitors made using surface-activated CF (FS-SACF) are here suggested; these materials have improved specific surface area and better wettability, obtained by introducing porous structure and oxygen-containing functional groups on the CF surface, respectively, through surface engineering. The FS-SACF shows an improved ion diffusion coefficient and better electrochemical performance, including high specific capacity of 223.6 mF cm-2 at current density of 10 ㎂ cm-2, high-rate performance of 171.2 mF cm-2 at current density of 50.0 ㎂ cm-2, and remarkable, ultrafast cycling stability (96.2 % after 1,000 cycles at current density of 250.0 ㎂ cm-2). The excellent electrochemical performance is definitely due to the effects of surface functionalization on CF, leading to improved specific surface area and superior ion diffusion capability.

  • WRC-03 was held between 9 June and 4 July 2003 in Geneva, Switzerland. Over 2,200 delegates from 138 ITU Member States attended the Conference. The delegates considered some 2,500 proposals, and over 900 numbered documents related to 50 agenda items. The final output of the Conference consists of 527 pages of new and revised text of the Radio Regulations. This paper provides some details about the outcome of the radio astronomy related issues at the WRC-03 Conference. It is divided into two part: a) Agenda item1.8.2 and b) Agenda item 1.32, related to radio astronomy. Relevant extracts from the Final Acts of WRC-03 are given in the Appendix. Agenda item 1.8.2 was one of the most controversial Agenda Items at WRC-03. Studies were carried out within ITU-R TG 1/7 for the last three years; the results of these studies are summarized in Recommendation ITU-R SM.1633. The Conference adopted a new footnote (5.347A), that calls for the application of Resolution 739 (WRC-03) in the 1452-1492 MHz, 1525-1559 MHz, 1613.8-1626.5 MHz, 2655-2670 MHz, 2670-2690 MHz and 21.4-22.0 GHz bands. Agenda item 1.32 is to consider technical and reglatory provisions concerning the band 37.5-43.5 GHz, in accordance with Resolutions 128 (Rev.WRC-2000) and 84 (WRC-2000). WRC-03 reviewed and adjusted the New footnotes 5.551H and 5.551I cover the protection of radio astronomy observations in the 42.5-43.5 GHz band from unwanted emissions by non-geostationary (5.551H) and geostationary (5.551I) FSS and BSS systems, respectively.
