  • To develop a microcomputer-based data acquisition system for measurement of variables such as temperature and weight in food process, a low-cost data acquisition system was developed using an Apple II microcomputer. The system consisted of a microcomputer, a temperature sensor made of pt-100, a strain gauge load cell for weighing, a preamplifier for signal conditionings and an interface device. Interface device was built with programmable interface chip MC 6821, tristate buffer 74244 and analog-to-digital converter ADC 0809. The analog signals of temperature and weight were serially acquisited upon the program. The BASIC language was used for operating the data acquisition and data handling programs. The system successfully measured the variables such as temperature and weight with various sampling intervals in food dehydration process.

  • The complexity of modern weapon systems using the intelligence technology demands that rapid and effective transition from force requirements to deployment and fielding. Thus this paper deals with the integration of development procedure, evolutionary acquisition, integrated test and evaluation, improvement of the requirements decision process, use of commercial products of high quality and low cost, specification deviation, and the effective use of dual use technology. In general, decisionmakers, and military field users shall first consider the moving technology rapidly into use. This study is aimed to improve the defence acquisition management directive for timely force integration of weapon system.

  • In this paper, pseudo noise (PN) code acquisition performance with multiple antennas in a UWB time hopping/code division multiple access system is analyzed. The closed form for the conditional probability is derived, using the Gauss-Hermite quadrature formula, when the signal with Gaussian distribution goes through the lognormal fading channel. The performance comparison of the above mentioned schemes shows that the code acquisition performance with a diversity combining technique, especially when increasing the number of antennas, is more robust than that using no diversity.

  • In this paper, the coarse acquisition code (C/A code), for civil navigation, of the ranging codes for Global Positioning System (GPS) is studied, simulated and analyzed by using Matlab. We can see with the simulation results that the correctness of the method and feasibility, which is at simulation platform to further study on the real environment of GPS signal, can be confirmed. With using this results, we think, the complexity of tracking the satellite signal environment can be captured, and the performance of satellite receiver will be improved.

  • We are under development of a 3D PET scanner with depth of interaction (DOI) capable of high sensitivity and high resolution. In this scanner, a maximum data transfer rate of coincidence pair's event information is 10 Mcps and one event is a 64-bit data format. This maximum data transfer rate corresponds by 10 times a conventional PET scanner. A data acquisition system, which fulfills the specification of this scanner, is considered for parallel collection with banks including several coincidence units. Data transfer rate is improved by optimizing parameters of a message size, and so on.

  • A wide field-of-view (FOV) image contains more visual information than a conventional image. This study proposes a new type of hyperbolic mirror for wide FOV image acquisition. The proposed mirror consists of a hyperbolic cylindrical section and a bowl-shaped hyperbolic omnidirectional section. Using an imaging system with this mirror, it is possible to achieve a $213.8^{\circ}$ horizontal and a $126.94^{\circ}$ vertical maximum FOV. Parameters of each section of the mirror are designed to be continuous at the junction of the two parts, and the resultant image is seamless. The image-acquisition model is obtained using ray-tracing optics. To rectify the geometrical distortion of the original image due to the mirror, an image-restoration algorithm based on conformal projection is presented in this study. The performance of the proposed imaging system with the hyperbolic mirror and its image-restoration algorithm are verified by experiments.

  • Recently, request far application of advanced commercial technology to the defense acquisition process, to reduce the budget and shorten development time, has been increased. To accomplish these goals, the Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration(ACTD) is used for the defense acquisition process in Korea. And User Utility Assessment is tested to make a decision for transition to acquisition process. But this process does not include measurement of technology maturity and impacts of interface and interaction among the technologies. In this research, we propose the needs of measurement of TRL and IRL and application of SRL to reduce the risk during development phase, to understand the relations of technologies, and to fulfill the requirement far transition of the ACTD project to system development and demonstration process.

  • In this paper, we propose an initial timing acquisition algorithm for terrestrial cloud transmission (CTxn) systems. By combining auto-correlations of several repetition patterns within preamble symbols, the proposed scheme can improve the reliability of the timing metric for CTxn system with co-channel interferences. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the reliability of the timing metric for terrestrial CTxn systems.

  • Rayleigh wave velocity along a straight survey line on a concrete plate is measured in order to compare different non-destructive data acquisition techniques. Results from a rolling non-contact data acquisition system using air-coupled microphones are compared to conventional stationary accelerometer results. The results show a good match between the two acquisition techniques. Rolling measurements were found to provide a fast and reliable alternative to stationary system for stiffness determination. However, the non-contact approach is shown to be sensitive to unevenness of the measured surface. Measures to overcome this disadvantage are discussed and demonstrated using both forward and reverse rolling measurements.

  • The objective of this research is to develop a knowledge acquisition and refinement method for a multi-objective and multi-decision FMS scheduling problem. A competitive neural network and an inductive learning algorithm are integrated to extract and refine necessary scheduling knowledge from simulation outputs. The obtained scheduling knowledge can assist the FMS operator in real-time to decide multiple decisions simultaneously, while maximally meeting multiple objective desired by the FMS operator. The acquired scheduling knowledge for an FMS scheduling problem is tested by comparing the desired and the simulated values of the multiple objectives. The result show that the knowledge acquisition and refinement method is effective for the multi-objective and multi-decision FMS scheduling problems.
