동해 울릉분지 북서해역에 분포하는 해저협곡의 탄성파 층서와 발달사 (Seismic Stratigraphy and Evolutionary History of Submarine Canyon in the Northwestern Part of the Ulleung Basin, East Sea)

  • 동해 울릉분지 북서해역에 위치한 해저협곡의 층서 및 발달사를 연구하기 위해 다중빔 및 탄성파 자료를 분석하였다. 탄성파 자료 해석에 의하면 연구지역의 퇴적층은 침식 부정합면에 의해 분리되는 4개의 층서단위로 구분된다. 대륙사면에 발달한 퇴적층은 사면붕락을 포함하는 평행층리 음향상이 우세한 반면, 분지로 향하면서 평행층리 음향상과 캐오틱 음향상을 보이는 퇴적층이 분포한다. 전반적으로 사면에서는 얇은 층후를 보이며, 사면기저부와 분지 평원에서는 두꺼운 층후로 발달한다. 탄성파 특징과 분포에 의하면 각 층서단위의 퇴적은 해저협곡의 발달사와 잘 대비된다. 음향기반 암 상부에 위치하는 층서단위 1은 사면에서는 얇은 층후로 발달하며 분지로 향하면서 층후는 점차 증가한다. 층서단위 2는 다른 층서단위에 비해 사면에서 두꺼운 층후를 보이며 단층과 관련된 사면붕락이 발생한다. 사면붕락에 의해 유발된 질량류 퇴적체는 사면기저부에 주로 퇴적되며, 이 퇴적체는 심해 선상지로 해석된다. 퇴적물의 퇴적보다는 침식작용이 우세하여 협곡의 폭과 깊이는 증가한다. 층서단위 3은 해저협곡 주변부의 사면에서 얇은 층후를 보이며, 분지로 향하면서 퇴적두께는 점차 증가한다. 층서단위 4는 사면에서 슬라이드/슬럼프를 포함하는 얇은 층후를 보이며, 사면기저부에는 두꺼운 층후로 퇴적되는 심해 선상지가 발달한다. 해저협곡 주변부에서의 사면붕락과 우세한 침식작용에 의해 해저협곡의 폭과 깊이는 증가한다. 결과적으로 연구지역의 해저협곡과 연계된 층서단위의 형성은 사면붕락에 의한 퇴적물 공급량, 광역적인 구조운동, 해수면 변동에 의해 크게 조절되었다.

도수로터널 주변 지역의 지하수 유동성 단열 규명 (Identification of the Transmissive Fractures in the Vicinity of waterway Tunnel)

  • 도수로터널 주변 지역의 대수층에 대한 유동성 단열을 규명하기 위하여 야외시험이 실시되었다. 단열들에 대한 정보를 얻기 위하여 지표 지질조사 지질구조조사 및 초음파주사검층을 실시하였다. 지표에서의 단열발달은 퇴적암의 층리면과 층리절리 및 화강암류의 판상절리와 같은 저각의 경사를 가지는 부분과 75$^{\circ}$ 이상의 고각의 경사를 가지는 부분의 두 개의 뚜렷한 단열군으로 형성되어 있다. 층리절리와 판상절리의 평균 주향과 경사는 각각 N70-80$^{\circ}$W.25$^{\circ}$SW, N35$^{\circ}$W.12$^{\circ}$NE이다. 고각의 절리들은 퇴적암 지역에서는 N80$^{\circ}$W.70-85$^{\circ}$SW와 N$10^{\circ}$E.85$^{\circ}$SE 두 방향의 단열조가 우세하며, 화산암 및 화강암 지역은 N40-50$^{\circ}$.E 85$^{\circ}$SE/85$^{\circ}$NE, N70$^{\circ}$E.80$^{\circ}$SE, 그리고 N70-75$^{\circ}$W.80$^{\circ}$SW 방향의 단열조가 우세하게 발달한다. 초음파주사검층에 의하여 얻어진 시추공내의 단열들은 N60-80$^{\circ}$W.20-45$^{\circ}$SW, N10-35$^{\circ}$E.64-83$^{\circ}$SE, N40-65$^{\circ}$E.60-85$^{\circ}$SE, N70$^{\circ}$E.80$^{\circ}$SE, N60-80$^{\circ}$W.45-85SE/SW의 단열군들이 우세하다. 공내 수리전도도의 수직적인 분포를 파악하기 위하여 정압주입시험을 실시하였다. 계산된 수리전도도는 3.363E-10 m/sec 에서 2.731E-6 m/sec의 범위로서 최대값과 최소값은 4차수(four order)의 차이를 보였다. 단열대의 분포 특성을 파악하기 위하여 지구물리검층을 실시하였고, 각 시험에 의해 획득된 결과들과의 비교를 통하여 유동성이 높은 단열들이 규명되었다. 온도검층은 유동성 단열과 일반적인 단열들을 구별하는 좋은 지시자로 나타났다. 그 결과, N70-80$^{\circ}$W.60-85$^{\circ}$NE/SW, N75-80$^{\circ}$W.25-30$^{\circ}$SW, N50-64$^{\circ}$W.60-85$^{\circ}$NE, N35-45$^{\circ}$E.65-75$^{\circ}$SE, 그리고 N65-72$^{\circ}$E.80$^{\circ}$SE/60$^{\circ}$NW의 단열들이 연구지역의 지하수 흐름을 지배하는 뚜렷한 유동성 단열로 규명되었다.

미산성 차아염소산수와 초음파를 처리한 당근에서 저장 중 Bacillus cereus 균의 생육 예측모델 (Predictive Modeling of Bacillus cereus on Carrot Treated with Slightly Acidic Electrolyzed Water and Ultrasonication at Various Storage Temperatures)

  • 최근 과채류나 즉석섭취식품과 같은 비가열처리식품 중 당근에 존재하는 B. cereus 균은 토양세균의 일종으로 내열성 포자를 생성하여 다른 식중독 균보다 어느 표면이든 잘 들러붙어 세척과 소독이 어려운 것으로 알려지고 있다. 따라서 식품위생 및 품질에 민감히 대처하기 위해 비가열 세척 처리기술과 미생물의 생육을 수학적으로 기술하여 예측함으로써 위해 미생물을 효과적으로 제어하는 예측 미생물학을 개발해야 한다. 이를 위해 비가열 세척 처리 방법 중 초음파와 미산성 차아염소산수를 이용하여 병용 처리한 후 최적조건으로 병용 처리한 당근을 시간과 온도에 따른 생육 변화를 통해 예측모델을 개발하였다. 미산성 차아염소산수와 초음파를 병용 처리하여 B. cereus 균 저감화 효과를 분석한 결과, 초음파 단독 처리 시 400 W/L, $40^{\circ}C$, 3분 조건에서 2.87 log CFU/g의 살균 효과를 나타내 가장 좋은 최적조건을 나타내었다. 이를 바탕으로 B. cereus 균을 접종한 당근에 미산성 차아염소산수와 병용 처리를 하였을 때 3.1 log CFU/g의 저감화를 나타내었다. 최적조건으로 병용 처리한 당근을 각각 다른 온도(5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, $34^{\circ}C$)에서 저장 중의 B. cereus 균 생육 변화와 예측모델을 개발한 결과, modified Gompertz model은 B. cereus 균 생육 변화를 예측하는 데 매우 적합($R^2$은 0.9918~0.9992)한 것으로 나타났으며 온도가 높을수록 SGR값은 증가하였고 LT값은 감소하였다. 이를 바탕으로 2차 모델을 개발하여 적합성을 분석한 결과 예측값과 측정값이 모두 정확하게 일치하게 되면 1에 가까운 값을 나타내는 Bias factor($B_f$)와 Accuracy factor($A_f$)가 SGR은 1.00, 1.03, LT는 1.02, 1.05로 각각 나타나 매우 높은 상관관계를 나타내었다. 본 연구 결과의 의미는 초음파와 미산성 차아염소산수를 이용하여 당근에서 B. cereus의 저감화 기술 및 저장 중 생육 변화를 실시간으로 정량적으로 예측하는 예측모델을 개발하여 식품의 가공 및 저장 중의 품질 변화 원인을 규명하고 품질 저하를 위생적으로 안전한 저장 및 유통 기술을 확립하고자 하였다.

LPG 지하저장기지 건설을 위한 수륙혼합 탄성파탐사 사례 (Case study on the lake-land combined seismic survey for underground LPG storage construction)

  • 남양호 수상탄성파 탐사는 호수 하부에 지하유류 비축시설 건설에 필요한 지반안정성 조사 및 설계변수를 도출하기 위하여 사전 조사의 일환으로 수행되었다. 조사지역이 바다에 면한 얕은 수심의 인공 호수로서 주변의 환경은 제방, 매립지, 초고압선 및 안전을 요하는 구조물로 둘러싸인 열악한 탐사 환경을 갖추고 있었다. 이러한 배경 때문에 신뢰성 있고 효과적으로 조사목적을 달성하기 위하여 서로 상이한 4개의 탄성파 탐사법을 동일 지역, 동일 탐사기간 내 적용함으로서 탐사방법간의 상승효과와 탐사 자료해석 결과의 신뢰도 제고를 도모하였다 적용된 탐사법은 수상 단성분 반사법 탐사, 수상 단성분 굴절법 탐사, 육상 24성분 굴절파 탐사 및 수륙 혼합 24성분 굴절파 탐사 등이었다. 특히 수륙혼합 굴절파 탐사법은 국내에서는 최초로 응용된 사례이다. 조사면적 $1km^2$에 대한 총탐사량은 반사법탐사 31개 측선 34 Line-km, 소노부이탐사 14개 측선 육상 굴절파 탐사 1개 측선 890 m, 수륙혼합 굴절파탐사 8개 측선이었다. 반사법 탐사의 경우 호수저면의 지질학적인 특성인 얕은 심도의 무퇴적 내지 박층의 퇴적층과 기반암 분포로 중복반사가 심하였으나 호안 지역에서의 반사파 기록은 양호하였다. 수륙혼합 굴절파 탐사는 아주 양호한 기록을 얻을 수 있었다. 그러나 육상굴절파탐사의 경우 자료의 질이 수륙혼합 굴절파 탐사자료 만큼 좋지 않았는데 그 이유는 저속도의 표토층과 고압선으로부터 유도된 전기적인 잡음 때문이었다 반사법 탐사 결과 기반암구조는 대체로 평탄하며 수면 하 30 m 부근에서부터 발달하고 있다. 소노부이 탐사 결과 기반암은 신선암, 약풍화대 및 풍화대로 구분되었다. 수륙혼합 굴절파탐사 결과 기반암 속도 분포는 4.5 km/s 이상 지역, 4.0 - 4.5 km/s 지역 그리고 4.0 km/s 이하 지역으로 구분할 수 있었으며, 조사지역 북서부가 남동부보다 높은 속도분포를 보인다. 조사지역의 주요구조선은 북서-남동 방향성이다. 탄성파 탐사에서 예상된 단층대의 확인을 위한 시추조사가 추가되었으며 예상된 단층의 확인에 따라서 기존 설계의 변경이 있었다.

교동도 사운드스케이프의 특성과 재현 (On the Characteristic and Representation of Kyodong Island Soundscape)

  • 본 연구는 사운드스케이프를 통해 시각적 풍경 이면에 축적되어 있는 지역의 역사적 배경과 문화적 전통을 경험할 수 있으며, 사운드스케이프를 문화 관광자원으로 활용할 수 있는 가능성에 주목하였다. 사운드스케이프는 M. Schafer가 비판적, 미적 관찰 대상이 되는 소리 환경을 설명하기 위해 도입한 개념으로 시각뿐만 아니라, 다양한 감각을 사용함으로써 경관을 새롭게 경험할 수 있는 가능성을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 이론적 배경을 바탕으로, '평화의 섬'을 비전으로 하고 있는 DMZ 접경지역의 교동도에서 사운드스케이프를 조사, 분석한 후, 지역주민 교육과 방문객 경험을 위한 새로운 문화콘텐츠로 재탄생시키고자 하였다. 교동도는 DMZ 접경지역이자 섬 전체가 민간인 통제구역으로, 한국전쟁과 분단으로 인해 역사적으로 격변을 겪었으며, 최근에는 지역활성화를 위한 민관의 다양한 사업들이 추진되고 있는 지역이다. 특히 한강하구중립수역에 위치한 지리적 특성을 문화적으로 해석하여 '평화의 섬'으로서 새롭게 장소마케팅이 되고 있다. 교동도의 사운드스케이프 조사를 위해 먼저 사운드아티스트와 함께 사운드스케이프의 개념과 기술에 대한 워크샵을 실시하였으며, 이어 관찰조사, 청취조사, 문헌조사를 진행하였다. 녹음결과물은 Schafer의 사운드스케이프 개념에 맞추어 기조음, 신호음, 표식음으로 구분하여 분석하고 사운드맵으로 기록하였으며, 교동도의 지역특성과 비전을 반영하여 사운드스케이프 작곡의 방식으로 재구성하는 스튜디오 작업을 진행하였다. 최종결과물은 '화합과 평화에 대한 희망과 염원'이라는 전체 주제를 바탕으로 '교동도와의 만남', '전쟁과 긴장', '교동도의 일상', '화합과 평화를 찾아서'로 세부 주제를 구성하였고, 전시와 YouTube를 통해 공유하였다. 이를 통해 교동도의 역사 및 지역정체성을 보존하고, 새로운 미래비전을 제시하는 매체로서 사운드스케이프의 가능성을 확인하였다. 본 연구결과물을 교동도에서 역사적, 문화적으로 의미가 있는 기존 장소들을 활용하여 전시함으로써 공간활용을 제고하고, 지역 역사와 문화를 담은 관광자원뿐만 아니라, 교육자원으로 활용할 수 있다는 의의를 가진다.

홍도의 소리경관 자원의 발굴, 보존 및 육성을 위한 사운드스케이프 조사연구 (Research on the Soundscape for Excavation, Preservation and Promotion of Soundscape Resources in Hongdo Island)

  • 이 연구는 지역의 소리환경의 정체성을 회복하고 소리문화로 계승/발전시키기 위하여, 그 지역의 소리경관 자원을 발굴하여 보존하고 육성하기 위한 방안을 마련하기 위한 조사연구이다. 이러한 목표를 위해, 이 연구는 한국의 서남해안의 섬인 홍도를 대상으로 주민의 면담조사와 소리들으며 걷기를 이용한 관찰조사를 수행하였다. 조사결과, 홍도에서 들을 수 있는 소리는 새소리, 파도소리, 바람소리, 갈매기소리, 몽돌구르는 소리 등의 자연의 소리, 그리고 뱃고동소리, 선박의 안내방송, 관광객들의 말소리, 교회의 종소리, 등대의 에어사이렌 등의 인공의 소리에 이르는 많은 소리가 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 연구의 결과, 홍도의 고유한 사운드스케이프를 회복하기 위해서는 몇가지 방안을 배려할 필요가 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 즉, 선박 안내방송의 효율적 운영개선, 몽돌해수욕장의 선착장 이전, 당산제 행사의 운영 및 관리, 홍도 등대 및 무종의 보존 및 관리, 마을 복개하천의 복원 및 정비, 마을 공동어시장의 운영 및 관리, 풍어제 및 홍어축제의 복원, 홍도운동회의 운영관리, 뱃고동소리의 음질 변경, 상여소리 등의 민속문화자원의 복원, 생태자연환경 및 도서해양환경의 보존활동, 지역의 활력과 매력을 위한 어메니티 증대를 꾀하는 방안이 필요한 것으로 파악되었다. 또한 많은 관광객들이 이러한 홍도의 사운드스케이프의 정체성과 소리환경의 중요성을 깨닫고 홍도의 사운드스케이프를 직접 체험하고 느낄 수 있도록 하기 위한 소리지도 (Sound Map)를 작성하였다.

평균역학고도장과 인공위성고도계 자료를 이용한 동해 표층해류 추산 (Estimation of the Surface Currents using Mean Dynamic Topography and Satellite Altimeter Data in the East Sea)

  • 인공위성 고도계로 측정한 해수면 높이 자료를 사용하여 준 실시간 동해 표층해류를 추정하기 위해, 세 가지 방법으로 평균 역학지형(또는 평균 해류장)을 계산하고 각각의 특징들을 살펴보았다. 프랑스 AVISO(Archiviing, Validation and Interpretation of Satellite Oceanographic data)는 인공위성 고도계 자료와 수치모델을 이용하여 전 지구 해양에 대하여 수평적으로 $0.25^{\circ}$의 해상도를 갖는 평균 역학지형을 계산하고 지형류 방정식을 적용하여 평균 해류장을 만들어 제공하고 있다. 동해에서 장기간 관측한 수온과 염분 자료를 사용하여 500 dbar를 기준면으로 사용한 역학적 해면(steric height)을 계산하고 이를 평균 여각지형으로 환산하였다. 또한 14년 동안 동행의 표층을 이동한 표층뜰개들(ARGOS)의 궤적을 이용하여 평균 해류장을 구하였다. 인공위성 고도계로 관측한 해수면 편차와 세 가지 평균 역학지형을 합하여 절대 역학지형을 얻고, 각각의 절대 역학지형에 지형류 방정식을 적용하여 세 가지 표층해류를 추정하였다. 각 방법으로 추정된 표층해류를 2005년에 동해 남서부 해역에서 선박장착 초음파 해류계(ADCP)로 관측한 해류 자료와 정량적으로 비교하였다. 육지에서 50 km 이상 떨어진 해역에서는 인공위성 고도계로 측정한 해수면 자료에 지형류 방정식을 적용하여 구한 표층해류와 현장 관측 해류의 상관계수(R)가 0.58~0.73이며 두 자료의 제곱 평균 제곱근 편차(Root Mean Square Deviation, RMSD)는 $17.1{\sim}21.8cm\;s^{-1}$이다. 육지에서 50 km 이내의 연안에서 두자료의 R이 0.06~0.46로 상대적으로 낮고 RMSD는 $15.5{\sim}28.0cm\;s^{-1}$이다. 이처럼 연안에서는 인공위성 고도계로 관측한 해수면 높이 자료의 오차가 크므로 향후 연안에 대해서는 새로운 표층해류 추정 방법에 대한 추가 연구가 필요하다.

고도난청아(高度難聽兒)에 대(對)한 잔존청력(殘存聽力) (A Study on Residual Hearing of Hearing Impaired Children)

  • 고도난청아(高度難聽兒)에 대(對)한 잔존청력(殘存聽力)을 조사(調査)하기 위(爲)하여 1973년(年) 3월(月) 10일(日)부터 동년(同年) 11월(月) 28일(日)까지 한사대(韓社大) 부속(附屬) 농학교(聾學校) 재학생(在學生) 207명(名)(초등(初等) 138명(名), 중등(中等) 47명(名), 고등(高等) 22명(名)), 즉(卽) 남(男) 135명(名), 여(女) 72명(名)을 대상(對象)으로 문진(問診)을 통(通)한 사회의학적(社會醫學的) 배경조사(背景調査)와 특수교육연구소(特殊敎育硏究所) 방음실(防音室)에서 AS-105형(型) 진단용(診斷用) TRIO 청력측정기(聽力測定器)에 의(依)한 청력검사결과(聽力檢査結果), 다음과 같은 성적(成績)을 얻었으므로 이에 보고(報告)하는 바이다. (1) 의무교육(義務敎育)은 초등교육(初等敎育)의 취학률(就學率)도 정상아(正常兒)에 있어서와 달리 난청출현율(難聽出現率)에 비례(比例)하여 고도난청아(高度難聽兒)에 있어서는 여자(女子)쪽이 현저(顯著)히 낮은 경향(傾向)이었고, 상분학교(上粉學校)(중(中),고(高))에 진학(進學)할수록 더욱 심(甚)한 격차(隔差)를 보였다. (2) 적령기(適齡期)(초등(初等) 만(滿) 6세(歲), 중등(中等) 12세(歲), 고등(高等) 15세(歲))에 입학(入學)한 학생(學生)은 11.3%, 학령기(學齡期)(초(初) 6세(歲)${\sim}11$세(歲), 중(中)12(세)歲${\sim}14$(세)歲, 고(高)15세(歲)${\sim}17$세(歲))에 재학(在學)하고 있는 학생(學生)은 45.9% (남(男) 43.7%, 여(女) 50%)이였다. 이러한 현상(現象)은 현장교육(現場敎育)이 기대(期待)에 부응(副應)치 못하며 장해아동(障害兒童)을 기피(忌避)하고 임상적(臨床的)으로만 청력(聽力)을 개선(改善)할려는 부모(父母)의 학력(學歷), 직업(職業)(농업(農業)과 판매업(販賣業)이 50.8%)및 심리적(心理的)인 현상(現象)과 대부분(大部分)의 이비과병원(耳鼻科病院)에 잔존청력(殘存聽力)을 정확(正確)히 판단(判斷)할 수 있는 유아청력검사(幼兒聽力檢査) 시설(施設)이 없으므로 조기발견(早期發見)과 대책(對策)을 강구(講究)치 않는데 기인(基因)된다고 사료(思料)된다. (3) 실청(失聽)이 될수 있었던 원인(原因)은 대개(大槪) 선천성(先天性) 23.6%(유전성(遺傳性) 13.5%, 임신시이상(姙娠時異常) 10.1%), 후천성(後天性)47.9%(경련(痙攣) 11.6%, 홍역(紅疫) 7.7%, 열병(熱病) 7.7%) 약물중독(藥物中毒) 3.4%, 뇌막염(腦膜炎) 2.4%, 뇌염(腦炎) 1.5%, 기타(其他) 31.3%), 불명(不明) 28.5%인 경향(傾向)이었다. (4) 실청시기(失聽時期)는 6개월(個月) 이내(以內)가 31.4%(선천성(先天性) 24.2%), 생후(生後) $2{\sim}3$년(年) 14.0%, $6{\sim}12$개월(個月) 11.6%, $1{\sim}2$년(年) 9.7% 순(順)으로 생후(生後) 3년내(年內) 실청(失聽)된 학생(學生)이 약(約) 90%(138명(명))로 대부분(大部分)이었다. (5) 난청원인(難聽原因)에 따른 청력손실도(聽力損失度)와 실청시기(失聽時期)와는 일정관계(一定關係)를 발견(發見)할수 없었으며 난청종류별(難聽種類別)로는 전음성(傳音性)이 2명(名), 혼합성(混合性)이 8명(名)이고 감음성(感音性)이 97.5%(197명(名))로서 대부분(大部分)이었다.   • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70$\pm$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32$\pm$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms. Dependence of Fo on Nk and Bi has been observed by experiment, and the results have been compared with the numerical results obtained by solving a 2-dimensional conduction equation. Stimulus patterns of our stimulator were designed to simulate electromyographic activity monitored during locomotion of normal subjects. Muscle types of the lower extremity were classified according to their mechanical property of contraction, which are slow muscle (msoleus m.) and fast muscle (medial gastrocneminus m., rectus femoris m., vastus lateralis m.). Optimal parameters of electrical stimulation for slow muscles were 20 Hz, 0.2 ms square pulse. For fast muscle, 40 Hz, 0.3 ms square pulse was optimal to produce repeated contraction. Higher stimulus intensity was required when synergistic muscles were stimulated simultaneously than when they were stimulated individually. Electrical stimulation for each muscle was designed to generate bipedal locomotion, so that individual muscles alternate contraction and relaxation to simulate stance and swing phases. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm.
