  • Acoustic-Pressure Response of diluted hydrogen-air diffusion flames is investigated numerically by adopting a fully unsteady analysis of flame structures. In the low-pressure regime, the amplification index remains low and constant at low frequencies. As acoustic frequency increases, finite-rate chemistry is enhanced through a nonlinear accumulation of heat release rate, leading to a high amplification index. Finally, the flame responses decrease at high frequency due to the response lag of the transport zone. For a medium-pressure operation and low-frequency excitation, the amplification index is low and constant. It then decreases at moderate frequencies. As frequency increases further, the amplification index increases appreciably due to an intense accumulation effect.

  • This study is to make the fundamentals of sound quality evaluation in regard of acoustical characteristics of passenger compartment. The deviation of frequency response function level within audible frequency is evaluated at receiving point in the research of room acoustics. In this study, frequency response function is the one between speaker and driver's ear positions. The positions of driver and audio speakers are optimized by analysis of acoustic mode of acoustic cavity. The main reflection planes are determined by analysis sound ray path diffused at optimized speaker positions. Finally, designer selects acoustical material by analysis of absorption effect of acoustical materials on the main reflection planes in order to avoid to distortion and fluctuation of frequency response function..

  • Recently, various acoustic artifacts that contains speaker have been produced such as cellular phone. Speaker consists of diaphragm generating sound and coil vibrating diaphragm. Generally, good speaker means that it has a wide frequency range, high output power rate to input power and flat sound pressure level in specified frequency range. Acoustic characteristic was estimated through the experiment and computer simulation, or sound power was controlled with acoustic sensitivity in a natural frequency range fer last decade. However, the flatness of sound pressure level has not been considered to enhance the sound quality of a speaker. Tn this study, a method for speaker design is proposed for a good acoustic characteristic, which is flatness of SPL(sound pressure level) and wideness between the first and second natural frequency. SYSNOISE is used fer acoustic analysis and ANSYS is used for harmonic response analysis and modal analysis. Optimization for acoustic characteristics of a speaker diaphragm is performed using ModelCenter. All analyses are done within a frequency domain. And we confirm that the experimental and computational simulations have similar trend.

  • Evaluation of the acoustic nasal geometry is obtained by estimating impulse response due to the nasal geometry. Conventionally, the Wiener filtering method proposed by Hunt has been used for estimating impulse response. In this paper, we proposed the Weiner filtering method using noise-to-signal power ratio for estimating impulse response. In result, the proposed method in this paper is effective than the conventional method.

  • Psycho-acoustic experiments were carried out to know the inhabitant's response on floor impact noises due to floor structure types. The response values for tapping machine, bang machine and impact ball were 4.4~6.06. And children walking and adult walking were 1.67~2.97. Using 11 scale response tests, children and adult walking was not irritate to dwellers and children running was disturbing.

  • A systematic procedure for designing a direct-radiator-type loudspeaker has been developed, based on a numerical vibro-acoustic analysis and the Taguchi method. The finite-element model of the speaker cone has been used to calculate the vibration response of the cone excited by the voice coil. The vibration response of the speaker cone has been used as a boundary condition for the acoustic analysis, and the acoustic frequency characteristics of the loudspeaker have been calculated by the boundary element method. The numerical model has been confirmed by comparing the numerical results with experimental ones obtained in an anechoic chamber. Some design parameters contributing dominantly to the acoustic characteristics have been selected by using the Taguchi method, and the variations of the acoustic characteristics due to the changes of the parameter values have been examined using the numerical model.

  • Acoustic response control of a corner-pinned plate using piezoelectric wafers was studied, both theoretically and experimentally. Three different sizes of aluminum alloy plates were used and available ball joints were employed to hold the plate at the four corners. The plate with the largest aspect ratio showed the largest and most clear responses to the acoustic excitation in the range of frequencies (0~200Hz), and sound pressure levels (80~100dB) as predicted. The reduction of the acoustic response of the plate by piezoelectric actuator was very significant, more than expected, but abatement of the sound transmission through the plate was only slightly altered by the piezoelectric actuator. This work is an original work extending earlier work with doors excited by acoustic fields. The important difference is the used of ball joints to simulate the joints.

  • In order to develop an inspection algorithm for an automatic eggshell inspection system, acoustic impulse response with neural network method was studied. An improved error backpropagation algorithm was selected as a loaming rule of neural network, and three layer network was chosen for the neural network architecture. Acoustic signals in time domain and theirs power spectrum were studied as the input to the neural network. The classification feasibility and success rate were investigated in terms of statistical analysis and neural network approach. As a result, the success rate was 95% with the statistical model having five independent variables. Among the neural network models studied, the power spectrum of acoustic signal as the input with 64 input neurons and the two impact data showed the success rate of 95.5% which was slightly higher than of statistical analysis.

  • With the advent of sound field simulator, many sound fields have been reproduced by obtaining the impulse responses of specific acoustic spaces like famous concert hall, opera house. This sound field reproduction has been done by the linear convolution operation between the sound input signal and the impulse response of certain acoustic space. However, the conventional finite impulse response based linear convolution operation always makes real-time implementation of sound field generator impossible due to the large amount of computational burden. This paper introduces the fast convolution method using perceptual redundancy in the processed signals, input audio signal and room impulse response. Temporal and spectral psycho-acoustic filters considering masking effects are implemented in the proposed convolution structure. It reduces the computational burden of convolution methods for realtime implementation of a sound field generator. The conventional convolutions are compared with the proposed one in views of computational burden and sound quality. In the proposed method, a considerable reduction in the computational burden was realized with acceptable changes in sound quality.

  • Recently, a method of measuring impulse response is widely used for a room acoustic evaluation instead of measuring reverberation time by white noise excitation. Comparing with the traditional reverberation time measurement, this method has many advantages such as good repeatability and the ability to extract various room acoustic parameters at one measurement. In this study, the author developed a measuring system that can extract mono-aural room acoustic parameters from an impulse response measured with MLS (Maximum Length Sequence) signal excitation. These room acoustic parameters include reverberation times(EDT, RT), speech intelligibilities(C50, C80, D, U50, U80, AI) and sound strength(G). This paper introduces the configuration of the developed measuring system, test results and discussions for the measurements at several rooms.
