Analysis on an improved resistance tuning type multi-frequency piezoelectric spherical transducer

  • The existing piezoelectric spherical transducers with fixed prescribed dynamic characteristics limit their application in scenarios with multi-frequency or frequency variation requirement. To address this issue, this work proposes an improved design of piezoelectric spherical transducers using the resistance tuning method. Two piezoceramic shells are the functional elements with one for actuation and the other for tuning through the variation of load resistance. The theoretical model of the proposed design is given based on our previous work. The effects of the resistance, the middle surface radius and the thickness of the epoxy adhesive layer on the dynamic characteristics of the transducer are explored by numerical analysis. The numerical results show that the multi-frequency characteristics of the transducer can be obtained by tuning the resistance, and its electromechanical coupling coefficient can be optimized by a matching resistance. The proposed design and derived theoretical solution are validated by comparing with the literature given special examples as well as an experimental study. The present study demonstrates the feasibility of using the proposed design to realize the multi-frequency characteristics, which is helpful to improve the performance of piezoelectric spherical transducers used in underwater acoustic detection, hydrophones, and the spherical smart aggregate (SSA) used in civil structural health monitoring, enhancing their operation at the multiple working frequencies to meet different application requirements.

Effects of water saturation time on energy dissipation and burst propensity of coal specimens

  • Water infusion has long been taken as an effective way to eliminate coal burst risk as coal properties can be loosen and soften by water infusion. However, not all industrial trials of water infusion for coal burst prevention have been necessarily effective in all situations as the effectiveness of this method can be affected by water infusion time, coal properties and the parameters of water injection. Hence, some fundamental issues including the effects of water infusion time on burst propensity and energy evolution need to be further discussed. In this paper, four groups of coal specimens with 0 day, 5 days, 10 days, and 15 days water saturation time are tested under uniaxial compression load with the application of AE monitoring. To comprehensively compare the burst behavior of coal specimens under different water saturation time, stress-strain curves, AE counts, fragmentation characteristics and burst propensity of these groups are analyzed. It was found by this research that sufficient water saturation can mitigate the burst behavior of coal samples while insufficient water infusion might cannot reach the burst mitigation aims.

Wind Effects on Tall Buildings with a Porous Double-Skin Façade

  • Double-Skin Facades (DSF) on tall buildings are becoming increasingly common in urban environments due to their ability to provide architectural merit, passive design, acoustic control and even improved structural efficiency. This study aims to understand the effects of porous DSF on the aerodynamic characteristics of tall buildings using wind tunnel tests. High Frequency Force Balance and pressure tests were performed on the CAARC standard tall building model with a variable porous DSF on the windward face. The introduction of a porous DSF did not adversely affect the overall mean forces and moments experienced by the building, with few differences compared to the standard tall building model. There was also minimal variation between the results for the three porosities tested: 50%, 65% and 80%. The presence of a full-height porous DSF was shown to effectively reduce the mean and fluctuating wind pressure on the side face of the building by about 10%, and a porous DSF over the lower half height of the building was almost as effective. This indicates that the porous DSF could be used to reduce the design load on cladding and fixtures on the side faces of tall buildings, where most damage to facades typically occurs.

Hygrothermal sound radiation analysis of layered composite plate using HFEM-IBEM micromechanical model and experimental validation

  • The sound radiation responses of multi-layer composite plates subjected to harmonic mechanical excitation in hygrothermal environment is numerically investigated. A homogenized micromechanical finite element (FE) based on the higher-order mid-plane kinematics replicating quadratic function as well as the through the thickness stretching effect together with the indirect boundary element (IBE) scheme has been first time employed. The isoparametric Lagrangian element (ten degrees of freedom per node) is used for discretization to attain the hygro-thermo-elastic natural frequencies and the modes of the plate via Hamilton's principle. The effective material properties under combined hygrothermal loading are considered via a micromechanical model. An IBE method is then implemented to attain structure-surrounding coupling and the Helmholtz wave equation is solved to compute the sound radiation responses. The effectiveness of the model is tested by converging it with the similar analytical/numerical results as well as the experimentally acquired data. The present scheme is further hold out for solving diverse numerical illustrations. The results revealed the relevance of the current higher-order FE-IBE micromechanical model in realistic estimation of hygro-thermo-acoustic responses. The geometrical parameters, volume fraction of fiber, layup, and support conditions alongside the hygrothermal load is found to have significant influence on the vibroacoustic characteristics.

실시간 총유사량 모니터링을 위한 H-ADCP 연계 수정 아인슈타인 방법의 의사 SVR 모형 (A SVR Based-Pseudo Modified Einstein Procedure Incorporating H-ADCP Model for Real-Time Total Sediment Discharge Monitoring)

  • 자연하천에서의 유사량 계측은 하천공학적으로 중요한 의미를 가지지만 계측 방법의 비용 문제로 유사량 실측에 어려움이 따른다. 특히 소류사량 계측의 어려움으로 인해 주기적인 유사량 모니터링의 대부분이 부유사 농도 계측에만 제한되어 있는 실정이다. 본 연구에는 자동유량관측소에 설치된 횡방향 도플러 유속계(H-ADCP)의 후방산란값과 부유사 농도의 상관관계를 이용해 실시간으로 부유사 농도를 산정하고 총유사량을 산정하는 서포트벡터회귀 모형을 제안한다. 제안하는 실시간 총유사량 모니터링 시스템은 부유사 농도 모형과 수정 아인슈타인 방법을 모사하는 총유사량 산정 모형으로 구성된다. 각 모형의 매개변수와 입력변수는 K겹 교차검증 기반 격자검색 방법과 재귀적 특징 제거법을 이용해 결정되었다. 교차검증에서 부유사 농도 모형과 총유사량 산정 모형의 R2가 각각 0.885와 0.860으로 유사량-유량 관계곡선에 비해 정확한 것으로 나타났다. 시계열 유사량 관측을 통해 새로 제시되는 실시간 총유사량 관측 시스템이 자연하천에서 발달하는 유사량-유량 이력관계와 미세한 유량 변화에서 나타나는 유사량 변화를 성공적으로 관측할 수 있음을 확인했다. 본 연구에서 제안하는 방법은 마찰경사나 부유사 입도 등의 수리 조건을 가정할 필요 없이 H-ADCP의 원시자료만으로 부유사 농도와 총유사량을 산정할 수 있어 기존 방법에 비해 불확도가 적으며 경제적이다. 본 방법은 H-ADCP가 설치된 유사량 관측소에 광범위하게 적용 가능해 유사량 모니터링의 시간적 해상도를 경제적으로 크게 줄일 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

CFRP/GFRP 적층복합재의 두께가 혼합모드 균열거동과 AE에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of the CFRP/GFRP Composite Thickness on AE Characteristics and Mixed Mode Crack Behavior)

  • Recently many efforts and researches have been done to cope with industrial facilities that require a low energy machines due to the gradual depletion of the natural resources. The fiber-reinforced composite materials in general have good properties and have the proper mechanical properties according to the change of the ply sequences and fiber distribution types. However, in the fiber-reinforced composite material, there are several problems, including fiber breaking, peeling, layer lamination, fiber cracking that can not be seen from the metallic material. Particularly, the fracture and delamination are likely to be affected by the thickness of the stacking laminates when the bi-material laminated structure is subjected to a load of the mixed mode. In this study, we investigated the effect of the thickness ratio of the difference in the CFRP/GFRP bi-material laminate composites by measuring the cracking behavior and the AE characteristics in a mixed mode loading, which may be generated in the actual structure. The results show that the thickness of the CFRP becomes more thick, the mode I energy release rate becomes a larger, and also the influence of mode I is greater than that of mode II. In addition, AE amplitude which shows the level of the damage in the structure was obtained the more damage in the CFRP with the thin thickness.

인장, 전단 및 혼합모드에서 디스크 시험편을 이용한 암석의 파괴인성 측정에 관한 연구 (Measurement of rock fracture toughness under mode I, II & mixed-mode conditions by using disc-typed specimens)

  • 최근들어 발파, 수압파쇄, 암반사면 등의 암반공학적 문제에 있어서 암석파괴역학이 널리 적용되고 있다. 그러나 암석 고유의 특성으로서 파괴역학에서 가장 중요한 변수인 암석의 파괴인성 측정에 관한 방법은 아직 확립되지 못한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 기존 파괴인성 측정법과 비교하여 많은 장점을 가지고 있는 CCNBD, SCB, CNSCB 및 BDT등과 같은 디스크 형태의 시험편을 사용하여 Mode I 파괴인성을 측정하였다. 또한 CCNBD 시험편에 STCA법을 적용하여 혼합모드 및 Mode II 파괴인성을 측정하였다. 각시험에서 시험편의 두께, 지름 및 노치길이 등과 같은 치수효과가 파괴인성에 끼치는 영향을 조사하였다. 혼합모드 시험결과로부터 여러 회귀곡선을 적용하여 파괴포락선을 구하였고 시험결과를 혼합모드에서의 세 가지 파괴기준식과 비교하였다. 각 파괴인성 시험 시에 균열전파가 시작되는 하중수준을 정확히 파악하고 균열의 변형거동을 조사하기 위해 미소파괴음 측정을 병행하였다.

인버터 에어컨 시스템의 역률보상을 위한 AC-DC 컨버터 제어 (AC-DC Converter Control for Power Factor Correction of Inverter Air Conditioner System)

  • In this paper, we propose a new AC-DC converter control method to comply with harmonics regulation(IEC 61000-3) effective for the inverter system of an air conditioner whose power consumption is less than 2,500W. There are many different ways of AC-DC converter control, but this paper focuses on the converter control method that is adopting an input reactor with low cost silicon steel core to strengthen cost competitiveness of the manufacturer. The proposed control method controls input current every half cycle of the line frequency to get unit power factor and at the same time to reduce switching loss of devices and acoustic noise from reactor. This kind of converter is known as a Partial Switching Converter(PSC). In this study, theoretical analysis of the PSC has been performed using Matlab/Simulink while a 16-bit micro-processor based converter has been used to perform the experimental analysis. In the theoretical analysis, electrical circuit models and equations of the PSC are derived and simulated. In the experiments, micro-processor controls input current to keep the power factor above 0.95 by reducing the phase difference between input voltage and current and at the same time to maintain a reference DC-link voltage against voltage drop which depends on DC-link load. Therefore it becomes possible to comply with harmonic regulations while the power factor is maximized by optimizing the time of current flow through the input reactor for every half cycle of line frequency.

  • The ride quality investigation is on-going topic in the car industry since its global standard has not evaluated and it is difficult to point out one part that hinders the ride quality. Since the traditional transfer path analysis that is widely used in car industry to investigate the ride quality requires a lot of test time to process the full data so that there are problems to conduct in industry. Based on these disadvantages, new approaches have developed such as OPAX(operational path analysis with eXogeneous inputs) and OTPA(operational transfer path analysis) for last decades. The OTPA only requires the operational data for evaluate the contribution of vibration sources and the OPAX has advantage of using parametric model to estimate the operating load and needs a minimum set of extra tests with excitation. In this paper, for evaluating the hindrance of ride quality two methods are used and the result is compared with another result of a car having higher ride quality.

  • 본 논문은 메탈 할라이드 램프용 고주파 변조 방식 전자식 안정기의 디지털 제어기에 관한 것이다. 제안한 디지털 제어기에는 소프트 스타팅, 무부하 보호, 과전류 보호, 전력 제어 알고리즘이 포함되어 있다. 또한 제안한 디지털 제어기는 고주파 변조 제어 및 공명 현상회피 알고리즘을 수행한다. ASIC을 이용한 저가 양산을 위하여 제안한 제어기는 마이크로프로세서를 이용하지 않고 단지 FPGA만을 사용하여 설계하였다. 본 논문에서는 구체적인 디지털 제어 알고리즘들을 기술하였으며 프로토 타입의 150w 메탈 할라이드 램프용 전자식 안정기의 실험 결과를 나타내었다.
