  • In this paper, the flow performance and aero-acoustic noise generated by the target centrifugal fan system were investigated numerically and experimentally. Also, the numerical method for Computational Aero-Acoustics were evaluated by comparing each method. To analyze the performance of the centrifugal fan experimentally, the acoustic power level was measured in the semi-anechoic chamber using microphones, and the active frequency range for the noise performance was identified and that frequency range was applied for Computational Aero-Acoustics (CAA) techniques as sampling frequency. Then, Navier-Stokes equation and the Ffowcs Williams&Hawking equations were used to analyze the flow and sound power numerically, respectively, and a virtual acoustic radiation plane was designed and used for the implementation of the sound field. The accuracy and numerical characteristics of the numerical methods were validated by comparing simulated acoustic power levels with acoustic power levels measured.

  • In this paper, flowfield and acoustic-field around moving bodies are simulated by the Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) formulation in FDLBM. The effect of the ALE is checked by comparing flow about a square cylinder in ALE formulation and that in the fixed coordinates, and the results show good agreement. Matching procedure between the moving grid and fixed grid is also considered. The applied method in which the both grids are connected through buffer zone is shown to be superior to moving overlapped grid. Dipole-like emissions of sound wave from harmonically vibrating bodies in 2- and 3-dimensional cases are simulated.

  • The evaluation of a zonal RANS-LES approach is documented for the prediction of broadband noise generated by the flow past unmodified and serrated airfoil trailing edges at a high Reynolds number. A multi-domain decomposition is considered, where the acoustic sources are resolved with a LES sub-domain embedded in the RANS domain. A stochastic vortex method is used to generate synthetic turbulent perturbations at the RANS-LES interface. The simulations are performed with a general-purpose unstructured control-volume code FLUENT. The far-field noise is calculated using the aeroacoustic analogy of Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings. The results of the simulation are validated through the full-scaled wind turbine acoustic measurements. It is found that the present approach is adequate for predicting noise radiation of serrated trailing edge flow for low noise rotor system.

  • This paper describes the application of a coupled finite element-boundary element method to obtain the steady-state response of a hydrophone. The particular structure considered is a flooded piezoelectric spherical shell. The hydrophone is three-dimensionally simulated to transduce an incident plane acoustic pressure onto the outer surface of the sonar spherical shell to electrical potentials on inner and outer surfaces of the shell. The acoustic field formed from the scattered sound pressure is also simulated. And the displacement of the shell caused by the externally incident acosutic pressure is shown in temporal motion. The coupled FE-BE method is described in detail.

  • The hydrodynamic model parameters for the submicron GaAs simulation are calculated using the Monte Carlo method. $\Gamma$, L-, and X-valleys are included in the conduction band of GaAs, and polar optic phonon, acoustic phonon, equivalent intervalley, non-equivalent intervalley, ionized impurity, and piezoelectric scattering are taken into account. The velocity-electric field strength curve obtained in this paper is in good agreement with experimental one. We present the results in tabular form so that other participants can make use of them to simulate the submicron GaAs devices by the hydrodynamic model.

  • Natural killer (NK) cells play a crucial role in combating infections and tumors. However, their therapeutic application in solid tumors is hindered by challenges, such as limited lifespan, tumor penetration, and delivery precision. Our research introduces a novel ultrasonic actuation technique to navigate NK cells more effectively in the vascular system, particularly at vessel bifurcations where targeted delivery is most problematic. We use a hemispherical ultrasonic transducer array that generates phase-modulated traveling waves, focusing on an ultrasound beam to steer NK cells using blood-flow dynamics and a focused acoustic field. This method enables the precise obstruction of non-target vessels and efficiently directs NK cells toward the tumor site. The simulation results offer insights into the behavior of NK cells under various conditions of cell size, radiation pressure, and fluid velocity, which inform the optimization of their trajectories and increase targeting efficiency. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of this ultrasonic approach for enhancing NK cell targeting, suggesting a potential leap forward in solid tumor immunotherapy. This study represents a significant step in NK cell therapeutic strategies, offering a viable solution to the existing limitations and promising enhancement of the efficacy of cancer treatments.

  • Underwater cavitation is one of the most important issues because it causes not only vibration and erosion of submerged bodies but also significant flow noise problems. In this paper, flow noise due to cavitation flows around the NACA66 MOD hydrofoil is numerically investigated. The cavitation flow simulation is conducted using the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations based on finite difference methods. To capture the cavitation phenomena accurately and effectively, the homogeneous mixture model with the Merkle's cavitation model is applied. The predicted results are compared with available experimental data in terms of pressure coefficients and volume fraction, which confirms the validity of numerical results. Based on flow field analysis results, hydro-acoustic noise field due to the cavitation flow is predicted using the Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings equation derived from the Lighthill's acoustic analogy. The typical lift dipole propagation patterns are identified.
