The flight vehicles have cavities such as wheel wells and bomb bays. The flow around a cavity is characterized as unsteady flow because of the formation and dissipation of vortices due to the interaction between the freestream shear layer and cavity internal flow, the generation of shock and expansion waves. Resonance phenomena can damage the structures around the cavity and negatively affect aerodynamic performance and stability. The flow field is observed to oscillate in the "shear layer mode" with low aspect ratio. In the present study, numerical analysis was performed for cavity flows by the unsteady compressible three dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with Wilcox's ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. The flow field is observed to oscillate in the "shear layer mode" with large aspect ratio. Based on the SPL(Sound Pressure Level) analysis of the pressure variation at the cavity trailing edge, the dominant frequency was analyzed and compared with the results of Rossiter's formul. The aero-acoustic wave analyzed with CPD(Correlation of Pressure Distribution).

In this study, we simulate the aerodynamic sounds generated by a two-dimensional circular cylinder in a uniform flow are simulated by applying the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method (FDLBM). The third-order-accurate up-wind scheme (UTOPIA) is used for the spatial derivatives. and the second-order-accurate Runge-Kutta scheme is applied for the time marching. The results show that we successively capture very small acoustic pressure fluctuations with the same frequency of the Karman vortex street compared with the Pressure fluctuation around a circular cylinder The propagation velocity of the acoustic waves shows that the points of peak pressure are biased upstream due to the Doppler effect in the uniform flow For the downstream. on the other hand. it quickly Propagates. It is also apparent that the amplitude of sound Pressure is Proportional to $r^{-1/2}$, r being the distance from the center of the circular cylinder. To investigate the effect of the lattice dependence furthermore a 2D computation of the tone noise radiated by a NACA0012 with a blunt trailing edge at high incidence and low Reynolds number is also investigated.
In this study, 2D computations of the Aeolian tones for some obstacles (circular cylinder, square cylinder and NACA0012 airfoil) are simulated. First of all, we calculate the flow noise generated by a uniform flow around a two-dimensional circular cylinder at Re=150 are simulated by applying the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method (FDLBM). The third-order-accurate up-wind scheme (UTOPIA) is used for the spatial derivatives, and the second-order-accurate Runge-Kutta scheme is applied for the time marching. The results show that we successively capture very small acoustic pressure fluctuation with the same frequency of the Karman vortex street compared with the pressure fluctuation around a circular cylinder. The propagation velocity of the acoustic waves shows that the points of peak pressure are biased upstream due to the Doppler effect in the uniform flow. For the downstream, on the other hand, it is faster. To investigate the effect of the lattice dependence, furthermore, simulations of the Aeolian tones at the low Reynolds number radiated by a square cylinder and a NACA0012 airfoil with a blunt trailing edge at high incidence are also investigated.

For the underwater localization, acoustic sensor systems are widely used due to greater penetration properties of acoustic signals in underwater environments. On the other hand, the good penetration property causes multipath and interference effects in structured environment too. To overcome this demerit, a localization method using the attenuation of electro-magnetic(EM) waves was proposed in several literatures, in which distance estimation and 2D-localization experiments show remarkable results. However, in 3D-localization application, the estimation difficulties increase due to the nonuniform (doughnut like) radiation pattern of an omni-directional antenna related to the depth direction. For solving this problem, we added a depth sensor for improving underwater 3D-localization with the EM wave method. A micro scale pressure sensor is located in the mobile node antenna, and the depth data from the pressure sensor is calibrated by the curve fitting algorithm. We adapted the depth(z) data to 3D EM wave pattern model for the error reduction of the localization. Finally, some experiments were executed for 3D localization with the fast calculation and less errors.

Much numerical and experimental research has been done for the flow around an oscillating airfoil. The main research topics are vortex shedding, dynamic stall phenomenon, MAV's lift and thrust generation. Until now, researches mainly have been concentrated on analyzing the wake flow for the variation of frequency and amplitude at a low angle of attack. In this study, wake structures and acoustic wave propagation characteristics were studied for a plunging airfoil at high angle of attack. The governing equations are the Navier-Stokes equation with LES turbulence model. OHOC (Optimized High-Order Compact) scheme and 4th order Runge-Kutta method were used. The Mach number is 0.3, the Reynolds number is, and the angle of attack is from $20^{\circ}$ to $50^{\circ}$. The plunging frequency and the amplitude are from 0.05 to 0.15, and from 0.1 to 0.2, respectively. Due to the high resolution numerical method, wake vortex shedding and pressure wave propagation process, as well as the propagation characteristics of acoustic waves can be simulated. The results of frequency analysis show that the flow has the mixed characteristics of the forced plunging frequency and the vortex shedding frequency at high angle of attack.

We have been setting up experiments on propagation of shock waves generated by the pulsed laser ablation. One side of a thin metal foil is subjected to laser ablation as a shock wave propagates through the foil. The shock wave, which penetrates through the foil is reflected by an acoustic impedance which causes the metal foil to high-strain rate deform. This short time physics is captured on an ICCD camera. The focus of our research is applying shock wave and deformation of the thin foil from the ablation to accelerating micro-particles to a very high speed.

The transient and synchronization behaviors of a TA (thermo acoustic) laser pair were investigated experimentally for various crossing angles and different separation distances between the laser openings. Sound waves generated by the lasers were measured and analyzed at or near the focusing point by means of microphones, SPL meters, and a commercial software called Signal-Express. The two TA lasers were acoustically coupled through the air mass between their openings, and the only mode-locking operation that could be achieved was the one that was nearly $180^{\circ}C$ out of phase. The time to achieve synchronization was found to be dependent upon the initial mistuning of the frequencies and the crossing angle between the laser axes. The synchronization process could also be accelerated by turning on the laser with the lower power input first.

An 80MHz surface acoustic wave (SAW)-based gyroscope utilizing a progressive wave was developed on a piezoelectric substrate. The developed sensor consists of two SAW oscillators in which one is used for sensing element and has metallic dots in the cavity between input and output IDTs. The other is used for a reference element. Coupling of mode (COM) modeling was conducted to determine the optimal device parameters prior to fabrication. According to the simulation results, the device was fabricated and then measured on a rate table. When the device was subjected to an angular rotation, oscillation frequency differences between the two oscillators were observed because of the Coriolis force acting on the metallic dots. Depending on the angular rate, the difference of the oscillation frequency was modulated. The obtained sensitivity was approximately 52.35 Hz/deg.s within the angular rate range of 0~1000 deg/s. The performances of devices with three IDT structures for two kinds of piezoelectric substrates were characterized. Good thermal stability was also observed during the evaluation process.

This paper presents an analytic and numerical simulation of the generation and propagation of pico-second ultrasound with nano-scale wavelength, enabling the production of bulk waves in thin films. An analytic model of laser-matter interaction and elasto-dynamic wave propagation is introduced to calculate the elastic strain pulse in microstructures. The model includes the laser-pulse absorption on the material surface, heat transfer from a photon to the elastic energy of a phonon, and acoustic wave propagation to formulate the governing equations of ultra-short ultrasound. The excitation and propagation of acoustic pulses produced by ultra-short laser pulses are numerically simulated for an aluminum substrate using the finite-difference method and compared with the analytical solution. Furthermore, Fourier analysis was performed to investigate the frequency spectrum of the simulated elastic wave pulse. It is concluded that a pico-second bulk wave with a very high frequency of up to hundreds of gigahertz is successfully generated in metals using a 100-fs laser pulse and that it can be propagated in the direction of thickness for thickness less than 100 nm.
Underwater acoustics, which is the study of the phenomena related to sound waves in water, has been applied mainly in research on the use of sound navigation and range (SONAR) systems for communication, target detection, investigation of marine resources and environments, and noise measurement and analysis. Underwater acoustics is mainly applied in the field of remote sensing, wherein information on a target object is acquired indirectly from acoustic data. Presently, machine learning, which has recently been applied successfully in a variety of research fields, is being utilized extensively in remote sensing to obtain and extract information. In the earlier parts of this work, we examined the research trends involving the machine learning techniques and theories that are mainly used in underwater acoustics, as well as their applications in active/passive SONAR systems (Yang et al., 2020a; Yang et al., 2020b; Yang et al., 2020c). As a follow-up, this paper reviews machine learning applications for the inversion of ocean parameters such as sound speed profiles and sediment geoacoustic parameters.
