Experimental studies were performed to investigate speciation and leaching potential of heavy metals(Cu, Cd, Pb Zn, Ni) in ten sediment samples collected from Nakdong River. Acid Volatile Sulfide (AVS) and Simultaneously Extractable Metals (SEM) measurements were used to estimate heavy metals that can be leached under anaerobic conditions. Sequential Extraction Procedure (SEP) and Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) were used to characterize speciation and leaching potential of heavy metals under aerobic conditions. The results show that total concentrations of Cu, Zn and Ni were relatively high in the sediments from points Seongseo industrial complex stream (upper stream) (D), Seongseo industrial complex stream (midstream) (E), Dalseo stream (F), and Nakdong river estuary (J), and that Cd concentrations were higher in all sampling points except for Goriung Bridge (G) and Soosan Bridge (H). SEM and AVS analyses reveal that samples from points Ilsun Bridge (A), Namgumi Bridge (C), and Soosan Bridge (H) have potential of heavy metals leaching, although leachable concentrations are relatively low. The leaching potential of heavy metals in other points was low because of higher concentrations of AVS than SEM. SEP results show that more than 50% of Cu, Zn and Ni were present in residual fraction, which means these metals are less amenable to leaching in anaerobic conditions. On the other hand, more than 50% of Pb and Cd were extracted during the first through third step of the SEP, which means substantial fraction of these metals can be leached upon changing of redox conditions. TCLP tests predict that leaching potential of heavy metals was generally low, which is consistent with the results obtained by AVS and SEM measurements.

In order to manufacture an attractive waste glass for the permanent and secure disposal of high-level radioactive waste, the complex composition of the simulated nuclear waste glass PNL-7668 was simplified to a composition of sodium borosilicate glass. The substitutions of $Fe_2O_3$ and $Al_2O_3$ were added to examine on the leaching characteristics of simulated nuclear waste glass with variable composition. The leach tests for these glasses were performed according to 'MCC-1, Static Leach Test Procedure' in acid and basic solution. In this study, for the $Al_2O_3$-containing glasses, Na ion release from these glasses was higher in acid solution than in basic solution. As the content of $Fe_2O_3$ was increased in glasses, Na ion release was increased in acid solution, in spite of decrease of amount of total mass diminution.
The regeneration of wastc piddlng acid from ironmaking industry produces Iron oxides as by products which are used for pigments and raw matcrial of ferrite. Thc impurilies level of iron axides for ferrile arc strictly regalated. Filtrat~on, adsorption medw technique, Fe leaching and ncutralizaiion wcre tried in order to remove silica impurities in the wasb pickling acid solution.
A new method to extract gold from pyrite roster cinder, which combines ultra-fine-grinding with resin-in-pulp, has been studied in this paper. Compared with traditional leaching technology, it can short leaching time, avoid complex filter process, lower sodium cyanide consumption and increase gold recovery by 35%. During leaching, aluminium oxide ball was used as stirred medium, hydrogen peroxide as leaching aid and sodium hexametaphosphate as grinding aid. With the high efficiency and chemistry effect of ultra-fine-grinding, the leaching process was developed and the gold leaching rate may reach 88%. With AM-2 Б resin as abosorber and sulfocarbamide (TU) as eluent, gold was recovered from cyanide pulp by resin-in-pulp. AM-2 Б resin has good adsorbability in cyanide solution(pH=10). It was easy to elude gold from the loaded resin with 0.1㏖/L cholhydric acid and 1㏖/L sulfocabamide. The effect of contact time, temperature and acidity etc. on the gold absorption had been examined with static methods. The results showed that the adsorption and desorption of gold could both reach over 98%. The effects of flow rate of solution on dynamic adsorption and elution of gold had been examined with dynamic methods. Breakthrough curve and elution curve had been drawn in this paper. A mild condition was determined through a number of experiments: leaching time 2 hours, liquid solid ratio 4:1, sodium cyanide 3kg/t, hydrogen peroxide 0.05%, sodium hexametaphosphate 0.05%; adsorption time 30 minutes, temperature 10-3$0^{\circ}C$, resin($m\ell$) solid(g) ratio 1:10, eluent resin ratio 10-20:1, velocity of eluent $1.5m\ell$/min. Under the mild condition, the gold recovery may reach 85%.

Leaching of black dross with HCl solution was conducted to find a suitable process to recover valauble materials. In this work, the leaching behavior of the components was compared between black dross and the residues after water treatment. All the components except $TiO_2$ in the black dross were dissolved by HCl solution in the experimental ranges. Treatment of the black dross with water to recover the salts has negative effect on the leaching of $Al_2O_3$, MgO and $SiO_2$. The reactions occuring during the leaching were discussed. At an optimum leaching condition of 3 M HCl and $90^{\circ}C$, the leaching percentage of $Al_2O_3$, MgO and $SiO_2$ was 85, 100 and 40%, respectively.
In order to separate Indium and Tin from spent indium tin oxide (ITO) sludge, direct hydrochloric acid leaching and thermal reduction followed by HCl leaching were applied. In case of direct leaching of spent ITO, leaching rate of In and Sn was 18.5% and 19.95%, respectively. Whereas, in case of thermal hydrogen treatment of ITO sludge at different temperatures such as $700^{\circ}C$, $800^{\circ}C$, $900^{\circ}C$ and $1100^{\circ}C$, followed by HCl leaching, we obtained the result of more than 97% leaching rate of Sn. Specially, thermal treatment at $800^{\circ}C$ showed the highest leaching rate of 98.2% of Sn. Precipitation method was used for separation and recovery of Sn from leached mixed solution. If the solution pH were adjusted 2.0, 99.69% of Sn precipitated and 10.3% of In was precipitated. This confirmed the possibility of separation of Sn and In from leached solution by precipitation method.
This study was carried out to estimate leaching characteristics of incineration residues from municipal solid waste incinerators, and determine organic compounds in raw ash, leaching water and leaching residue. A total of 44 organic compounds, which were analyzed by GC/MSD and identified by wiley library search, were contained in bottom ashes. A total of 17 organic compounds were contained in fly ashes. Bottom ash and fly ash were found to contain a wide range of organic compounds such as aliphatic compounds and aromatic compounds. Organic compounds such as Ethenylbenzene, Benzaldehyde, 1-Phenyl-Ethanone and 1,4-Benzenedicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester were detected in raw ash, leaching water and residues (from bottom ash). Organic compounds such as Naphthalene, Dodecane, 1,2,3,5-Tetrachlorobenzene, Tetradecane, Hexadecane and Pentachlorobenzene were detected in raw ash, leaching water and residues (from fly ash). Through the leaching characteristics of incineration residue, it was represented that the open dumping of incineration residue can contaminate the soil and undergroundwater. In order to prevent environmental contamination that derived from extremely toxic substances in the incineration residues, it is particularly important that the incineration residues should be treated before disposal the incineration residues. Further study and proper management about leaching characteristics of organic compounds might be required.
The convergence process utilized both leaching and ion exchange techniques has been investigated for the heavy metals removal in the abandoned mine of Chungyang Province, Korea. The contaminated soil samples by heavy metals from Samkwang mine were analysed by statistical analyses. The highly contaminated soils was initially separated by the flotation process. The selectivity indices were increased with increasing flotation reagents. The selectivity of separation was then improved by the use of both leaching and ion exchange processes in order to extract the heavy metals. The results of this study showed that the higher the sulfuric acid concentration, the leaching rate of heavy metals was increased. The lecheate then was removed by the ion exchange method. The anticipating results might imply that convergence process utilized both leaching and ion exchange techniques would somehow apply for the removal of heavy metals in the abandoned mine.
