Environmental and Interpersonal Factors on Development of the Mathematically Gifted: Cases of International Mathematical Olympiad Winners from Korea

  • Spending as much time outside of school as in school, gifted youth are affected by non-school aspects including parents, other family members, peers, mentors, mathematics competitions and camp participations. These influences have been known to shape children's intellectual development, academic achievement, interests, and eventually college and career choices. From interviews with five former Olympians from Korea to identify out-of-school influences on their academic achievement and development, we discovered, in addition to confirmation of previously identified factors, additional sources of positive influence seldom previously mentioned and more common to Korean culture were gleaned - mathematics workbooks and Ha-Gwon. The findings of this study are informative for teachers and parents who are interested in development of gifted youth in providing ways to accommodate their special needs and in showing how they can carefully individualize those sources to be positively affecting intellectual development as well as academic achievement.

  • Due to rapid environmental-change pharmaceutical industry, sales strategy for sales survival of pharmaceutical company is necessary. In accordance with the rapid development of medicine and advancement of efforts to secure the market, competition among pharmaceutical companies make an effort to achieve their goals. However, due to various negative influence of inside and outside, this field is getting a difficult occupation. Even when securing and training new employees with quite a bit of expense and time, the rate of surviving employees over 1 year is decreasing. For this, the researcher suggested major research result through actual investigation by utilizing survey technique, and a plan to enhance pharmaceutical company salespersons' core competence and raise sales achievement. As the research result, company culture strongly influences salespersons' sales ability. We defined the formation of organizational culture, which influences communication culture where smooth communication is made in the company, also, definite and exact evaluation in promoting work, and trust formation between upper and lower organization, is important, which should be reflected in the company field.

  • The purpose of this thesis is, based on the cognitive response of employees, to depict the phenomenon and the pattern of organizational culture in A Subway system, To attain this purpose, several aspects of organizational culture are surveyed through questionaire and analyzed by SPSS. The major findings are . 1) In general, the cognitive response of employees in railway-concerned firms on culture-related aspects is awfully negative. 2) Job satisfaction and involvement in A Subway is highly related to achievement factor in terms of culture. 3) According to the analysis based on four kinds of Job Groups, certain job groups such as drivers and vehicle maintenance are seen as having exceptionally negative attitude towards every aspects of their organization. So, some careful diagnosis and approaches to the symptoms, the causes, and the treatments are urgently needed.

건강가정지원센터의 건강가정문화 사업평가에 관한 연구 (The Study of Culture Program Evaluation in Healthy Family Support Centers)

  • The purpose of study is to evaluate a culture program at the family support centers and to suggest a development direction. Therefore evaluation indication areas are planning adaption, practice validity, and an outcome(output) satisfaction. The study subject was 40 family support centers' final reports. The collected data was analyzed by evaluation framework. The results were as followed; first, the culture program plan described healthy of family, included various family type, family-unit program, but a clear culture program wasn't identified; second, the evaluation of culture program practice presents high goal achievement with small financial budget, large number of participants and various type of program, and finally, the program output showed high satisfaction.

한국 사회와 교육적 성취 (II): 한국 청소년의 학업성취에 대한 심리적 토대 분석 (Educational achievement in Korean society (II): Psychological analysis of academic success of Korean adolescents)

  • 이 글의 주된 목적은 한국 청소년의 높은 학업성취에 대한 심리적 토대를 분석하고, 앞으로의 시사점을 모색해 보는데 있다. 이를 위해 크게 세 부분으로 구성하여, 그동안 이루어진 경험과학적 연구결과들을 종합적으로 정리하였다. 첫째로, 한국 사회 교육성취 현상과 명암에 대해 살펴보았다. 여기에서는 한국 사람들의 삶에서 학업성취가 차지하는 비중, 국제사회에서 검증된 한국 청소년들의 탁월한 학업성취도, 지나친 교육열과 학업성취의 추구로 인한 사회적인 문제점들에 관하여 살펴보았다. 둘째로, 교육에 몰입하는 한국 사람들의 심리적 근원과 기제에 대해 규명하고자 하였다. 여기에서는 한국 학생들의 학업성취에 대한 토착심리, 자녀교육에 대한 한국 부모의 토착심리, 그러한 한국 부모와 자녀 마음의 상호작용을 집중적으로 분석하였다. 더불어 학업성취과정에서 친구와 교사의 영향, 청소년들의 학업성취에 영향을 미치는 사회적인 영향과 관련된 내용들을 논의하였다. 셋째로, 이러한 분석결과에 기초하여 앞으로 지향해야할 교육적 성취의 방향을 제시하였다. 여기에서는 고등학교만이 아니라 대학교 시기까지 교육적 관심이 지속될 필요가 지적되었다. 또한 교육적 목표의 본질에 충실하는 것이 중요하다는 맥락에서, 양적인 성취에서 질적인 성취로, 학업성취에서 주관적 안녕감의 획득으로 관심이 확대되어야 할 필요성이 제안되었다. 그리고 변화하는 시대의 흐름을 파악하고 한국인 토착심리에 대한 심도있는 이해를 기반으로, 진정한 교육적 성취로서 성공적인 인간교육을 위한 창의적인 접근의 필요에 대해 언급하였다.

A Study on the Characteristics of the Sports Meeting during the late Chosun Period

  • It is true that early Chosun's sports meeting was influenced by Japan and the West. However, the positive nature of Chosun's sports meeting development cannot be underestimated just because it was influenced by the outsiders. It is remarkable achievement for those enlightened people at those time to promote and influenced Korean people to strengthened their nationalistic and patriotic spirit through sports meetings.

  • In order to provide fundamental data for the achievement of safe environmental condition, investigation of the actual state of the nutriculture practices in Korea was carried out. The result obtained are summarized as follows. 1. Cultivation area of nutriculture was 6 ha and culture types included deep flow technique(43%), nutrient film technique(45%), gravel culture(6%), chaff charcoal culture(3%) and rockwool culture(3%). 2. Greenhouses were mostly made of pentite pipe frames and covered by polyethylene film, and culture beds were handy combination of cement blocks, concrete and styrofoam, which were not standard products. 3. Development of nutriculture system appropriate to our actual circumstances and improvement of establishments are required. 4. Since there was not farmhouse that performs the environmental measurement and environmental conditions of cultivation were very limited. sensor applied environmental control technology of nutriculture should be developed.

인사조직운영 및 문화유형에 관한 일 연구: A사의 기관사 직종을 중심으로 (A Study on Personnel, Organization Management System and Corporate Culture : Focusing on ″A″ Subway Drivers)

  • The purpose of this article is to depict the organizational effectiveness of "A" Subway Corporation based on the cognitive response of employees(subway drivers). To attain this purpose, several aspects of current personnel aid organization management system and organizational culture are surveyed through questionaire and analyzed by SPSS. The questionaire includes two parts of items. First, it includes items on personnel-related factors such as evaluation system job, wage, role, leadership and job satisfaction. Second, it includes items on organizational culture model suggested by Rousseau. The major findings are : 1) In general the cognitive response of driven concerning personnel-related aspects is to a certain degree negative. 2) The cognitive response of drivers concerning culture-related aspects is awfully negative. 3) Job satisfaction of drivers is highly related to role and leadership factors in terms of personnel-related aspects, on the one hard, and to achievement factor in terms of culture, on the other hand.

보건소 간호조직문화가 직무만족과 조직몰입에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Nurses' Organizational Culture on Their Job Satisfaction and Organization Commitment at the Public Health Center)

  • Purpose: This study examines how the types of organizational culture at a public health center affect job satisfaction and organization commitment of nurses. Method: The study selected 139 nurses from six public health centers located in G city, J province as subjects. The data was collected from April 1 to May 31 in 2008. Result: In regard to type of organizational culture had significant correlation with both job satisfaction and organization commitment, job satisfaction and organization commitment also showed high correlation. Concerning type of organizational culture, two variables of affiliated culture and innovative culture explained 26.3% of job satisfaction and 29.3% of organization commitment. Conclusion: The job satisfaction and organization commitment of nurses varied according to types of organizational culture of a public health center, and showed high correlation. The more affiliated and innovative the organizational culture was, the higher job satisfaction and organization commitment turned out. Therefore, it is advisable to develop a strategy that systematically creates a affiliated and innovative organizational culture that pays attention to goal achievement of the nurse.

한국 중고등학교 학생들의 자발성 향상방안에 관한 연구: 자기결정성 이론(self-determination theory)에 기반하여 (A Study on Spontaneous Improvement Plan for Secondary School Students: based on Self-determination Theory)

  • 본 연구는 한국 중 고등학생을 대상으로 학교에서 이루어지는 기존의 상벌점제도와 자기결정성 이론에 근거한 교육환경요인들이 학습 성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 학습동기의 매개효과를 중심으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 이러한 목적을 위해 서울시에 위치한 중 고등학교를 다니는 학생 202명을 대상으로 자기결정성 교육환경요인, 학습동기, 학습 성과 척도로 구성된 설문지를 실시하였다. 분석 결과 첫째, 자기결정성 이론에 기반 한 교육환경 변수들 중 자율성은 내부, 외부 학습동기에 긍정적인 영향을 주고, 자신감은 내부, 합리적 동기를 높여주며, 유대관계는 무동기를 낮추는데 긍정적인 효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 둘째, 최근 체벌에 대한 대체체벌로서 시행되고 있는 상벌점제도(Reward and Punishment Mark System)가 학생들의 학습동기에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 학습동기 하위요인이 학습 성취에 미치는 영향을 살펴본 결과 내부동기가 수업참여의지와 학습 성과에 모두 유의한 정의 관계를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 위의 연구결과를 토대로 자기결정성 이론에서 제시하는 자율성, 자신감, 유대관계에 대한 배려가 학습동기를 높여줌으로써 수업참여 의지를 높이고 학습 성과를 높인다는 사실을 확인함으로써 교육 분야에서 벌점제도 이외에 새로운 접근법을 필요하다는 것을 시사한다.
