Fourteen patients underwent orthotopic heart transplantation between March 1994 and May 1996 in Seoul National University Hospital. There were 9 male and 5 female patients, and the mean age was 40.8 $\pm$ 12.4 years ranged from 12 to 56 years. All patient were in NYHA Fc III or IV preoperatively. The underlying heart diseases were dilated cardiomyopathy in 11 and restrictive cardiomyopathy in 3. The mean age of donors was 24.9$\pm$ 10.2 years and the causes of the brain death were head trauma by traffic accidents in 8, subarachnoid hemorrhage in 2, 1 asphyxia, 1 fall down injury, 1 brain tumo , and 1 drowning, respectively The blood type was identical in 11, compatible in 2, and incompatible in 1 patient. The direct bicaval anastomosis technique was used in 11 cases, and standard right atrial anastomosis was done in the remaining 3 cases. The graft ischemic time was 158$\pm$44 minutes ranged 94 to 220 minutes. There were two hospital deaths(14.3%). The causes of deaths were 1 right ventricular failure followed by suspected cyclosporine induced hemolytic uremic syndrome and rejection, and 1 delayed massive bleeding, probably from rupture of the anastomotic pseudoaneurysm, respectively. The follow-up duration was 16$\pm$9 months(3 to 28 months). There was one late death(8.3%). All the other patients were in NYHA Fc I except one patient who was in hospital because of the acute rejection. The actuarial survival rates including hospital deaths were 93.7% at 1 month, 86.9% at 6 months, and 77$\pm$12% at 2 years. Conclusively, heart transplantation is the good strategy for the management of end stage heart disease with acceptable operative mortality and early follow-up results.

The study methodology is an integrated approach. It is established by modelling LSCM G2B2C2 Platform in maritime safety/security logistics and applied to the enhancement of maritime safety/security in global LSCM. This paper externally contributes to the reduction of world maritime accidents and exalt the national prestige; internally, the enhancement of the national competitiveness through the improvement of shipping port logistics and others. These eventually contribute to Korea's economic development that is combined by both theory and practice and of practical use of the integrated approach.

Journal bearings in the rotating machineries are vulnerable to the contamination or the insufficient supply of lubricating oil, which is likely to be the cause of unexpected shutdown or malfunction of these systems. Various destructive and nondestructive testing methods had been used for the reduction of maintenance cost and the operational safety problems due to the accidents related to bearing damages. In this experimental approach, acoustic emission monitoring is employed to the detection of incipient failure caused by intervention of foreign particles most probable in the journal bearing systems. Experimental schedules for the intervention of foreign particles was composed to be more quantitative and systematic than last study in consideration of minimum oil film thickness and particle size. The experiment was conducted under such designed conditions as inserting alumina particles to the lubrication layer in the simulated journal bearing system. Several parameters such as AE rms level, waveform, AE energy distribution and other AE event parameters are used for analysis and characterization of damage source. The results showed that the history of damage was well correlated with the changes of AE rms level and the type of damage source signal can be verified using other informations such as waveform, distributions of AE parameters etc.
Traffic accidents on highways are likely to happen when there is an imbalance in the complex relationships among key elements such as road geometries, driver related factors, and mechanical performances. The Demand-Effort Model (DEM), which evaluates highway safety, can be explained by the imbalance, which occurs when the level of demand of the driver's attention to the road environment exceeds that of the response from the driver. This study suggests a new model that improves the reliability of the current DEM through the reinterpretation on the physiological signals with the help of the Neural Network Model (NNM). The data were collected from 149 subjects, who drove a test vehicle on the Yongdong, Honam, and Seohaean Expressways in Korea. Three important results could be drawn from the recursive tests as follows; (1) Only 5 out of 10 parameters on the physiological signals which are currently used were proven to be meaningful through the Normality Test, Cluster Analysis, and Mann-Whitney Analysis. (2) The revised DEM, which internally uses the NNM, showed more reliable results than existing DEM. Group 1, which is based on the new DEM showed 80.0% of accuracy in measuring the level of driver's efforts, however, that of Group 2 based on the current DEM was 74.3%. (3) Field tests on the Honam Expressway showed lower 'type II error' with the new DEM (40.5%) than the old DEM (58.8%). The DEM is designed as a quick and easy way to determine highway safety prior to the minute road safety audit (RSA) by a professional audit team. Then a new DEM, which is based on the NNM, needs to be considered since it showed higher reliability and lower error.
The aim of this study was to examine fluid excretions and changes in deceased bodies depending on type, location of, and causes of death for hygienic management of funeral homes. Based on the 858 cadavers studied, the average age at the time of death is 68.6 years, 83.0% had illness as the cause of death, and 79.5% passed away in a medical facility. Fluid excretion was observed in 46.2% of the cadavers. In manner of death, 78.8% of deaths -highest percentage- was due to an accident and 10.8% of deaths - lowest percentage- was due to age. Fluid excretion was observed in 46.3% of cadavers from medical facilities, 38.6% of cadavers from homes and 77.4% of cadavers from miscellaneous locations. There were various number of cadavers with recorded immediate, secondary and underlying cause of death; however, the fluid excretion rate was similar. In analyzing the immediate, secondary and underlying cause of death, respiratory and heart disease were the most common causes of death in categories of body organ and system. In terms of fluid excretion, liver disease followed by digestive and circulatory diseases were most common in immediate cause of death. Accidents and miscellaneous circumstances were most common amongst secondary and underlying causes of death for cadavers with fluid excretion. Based on the recorded illnesses of the cadavers, cardiopulmonary failure was most common as evident in 96 cadavers followed by pneumonia and sepsis. Cholangiocarcinoma (73.3%) had the highest rate of fluid excretion followed by pancreatic cancer, severe brain injury and liver cancer amongst categories of illnesses with more than 15 cadavers.
The main purpose of this paper is to apply Zone 30 system which is being experimented in advanced country for the solution of controlling the residential street's speed to our country with the consideration of the real condition of our street and traffic and to run this system as an example to analyze the effect and at the same time, analyze the problem and get appropriate preparation for this system to be widespread. The area to run this model project is Goyang City Ilsan-Gu.($0.65km^2$) which is close with the commercial area reflecting the opinion of experts and an on-site verification by the National Police Agency T/F and is having a heavy pedestrian traffic and the risk of pedestrian accident. Firstly we defined residential street and residential street area to review the system and devided the residential street type to establish a plan of operation. Afterwards, we thoroughly examined the model project area and analyzed the problem and solution. We finally completed establishing a facilities by conference with a local autonomous entity with the improvement of facility's sketch at the analysis of the model project area. The result of effects analysis which we devided after and before of establishment is that vehicle speed be reduced 5~15km/h, and traffic accidents has decreased by 24 percent.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to develop a management system for the safe handling of chemicals and related health management based on reporting under the Chemical Control Act (CCA). It is used to search handling information by constructing data linked to the name of companies, chemicals, products, etc. Methods: Due to the differences in submission periods for each reporting regulation of the Chemical Control Act, the data used is as follows: A statistical survey collected 26,222 companies in 2014 and 2016, Pollutant Release Transfer Registers (PRTR) collected 4,234 companies in 2015-2017, performance reports by handlers of hazardous chemical substances collected 14,658 companies in 2016-2018, and declarations for import of toxic chemicals collected 892 companies in 2016-2017. The total information on 36,080 companies is standardized based on company ID, name, business registration number, address, and more. The data were classified into information such as company, chemical, and product name and amounts handled and released, and then extracted according to criteria to establish relationships among classified information. Results: A search service was developed for handling information on chemical substances for reporting data by linking four reporting data: statistical survey, PRTR, performance report by handler of hazardous chemical substances, and declaration for import of toxic chemicals under the CCA. It was composed of five menus to search by regulation type, reporting regulation, companies and chemicals, and system management. Conclusion: It is necessary to use data linked by company, region, and chemical to respond and to prevent chemical accidents. In addition, these items can be utilized to perform handling and safety management of chemicals according to whether regulations under the CCA may be implemented.

Flying net should be installed on every 3 or 4 construction floor from 8m above ground according to the rule. In the apartment housing construction, flying net installation work has been recognized the most dangerous work among the whole works because a small mistake of labors might make their death accident. Sub-contractors specialized in flying net have been developing various flying net types. However, most works of installing flying net as working with the developed system are performed outside the apartment housing, so that the risk of fall in works of installing supports and unfolding net is still high. Furthermore, as using the previously developed flying net labors might bump into the frame or the wire rope for supporting so that it makes secondary accidents. The objective of this research is to produce the proto-type of anti-collision flying net system based on the result of problem analysis on the installation and detachment process and suggest the improved anti-collision flying net system, which is able to improve safety and field applicability by conducting field experiment and analyzing performance.
Natech risk is a type of complex disasters that natural hazards trigger technological disaster or industrial accidents. Research on Natech risk has been started from the mid-1990s in European countries and the Unites States, and drawn much more attention after the Fukushima nuclear accident caused by the 2011 East Japan earthquake. While early studies on Natech risk have focused on the causal natural hazards and possibility to occur, and the resulting spill of hazardous materials from the perspective of science and engineering, the recent research interests lie on effective Natech risk management. Especially, emphasizing the difference of Natech risk management from traditional disaster management, issues of uncertainty management, integration between natural disaster and technological disaster, and responsibility, has been drawn attention. In Korea, Natech risk has not been introduced as a research topic. Although some regulatory improvements have been made in nuclear safety and chemical Substance management after the Fukushima disaster, the potential impact of natural hazards in these areas has not been considered yet. It is necessary to raise the issues of Natech risk management in research and policy areas through active discussion and interdisciplinary approaches.

The emergency restoration scenarios for efficient railway accident management and restoration were developed. The emergency restoration procedures defined by the worst case of emergency restoration and the important events was proposed based on questionnaires from specialists and the result of survey. Via these studies, the railway accident in the tunnel could be the worst case among all railway accident types. Therefore, educations for a restoration team in confined area condition should be planned and performed to recover the worst case accident. In order for the emergency restoration, when a railway accident is occurred, the restoration should be performed in orders of handing collapse of facilities, burying track, and derailment of vehicle in tunnel based on the statistical analysis. The result of priorities were established by the period of restoration. The standard operation system for efficient railway accident management was developed by synthesizing the worst case for rapid emergency restoration, and important events for the standard operation procedures according to each emergency restoration type. Through this study, the restoration operation system of railway accident are recommended. This paper suggests to develop emergency restoration scenarios for the efficient railway accident management and recovery system. The study results will contribute not only for insuring punctuality, but also for minimizing delays from accidents. Therefore, emergency restoration scenarios will play a major role in the SOP for the damage limitation and the prevention of accident spread.
