Studies on the Steady State and Dynamic Characteristics of a Carbon Dioxide Air-Conditioning System for Vehicles (자동차용 이산화탄소 냉방 시스템의 정상상태 및 동적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, an air conditioning system using carbon dioxide as a refrigerant was developed for automotive cabin cooling. Experiments have been carried out to examine the steady state and dynamic characteristics of this system. The system consists of a compressor, a gas cooler, an evaporator, an expansion device, an internal heat exchanger and an accumulator. The compressor is a variable displacement type, driven by the electric motor, and the gas cooler and the evaporator are aluminum extruded heat exchangers of micro channel type. The $CO_2-refrigerant$ charge, the compressor speed, the air inlet temperature of the gas cooler, the air inlet temperature and the air flow rate of the evaporator and the cooling load are varied and the performance of the system is experimentally investigated. As the compressor speed increased, cooling capacity increased, but the coefficient of performance was deteriorated. As the cabin air temperature or the air flow rate to the cabin was set high, both the cooling capacity and the COP increased. In the cool down experiment with 1.0 or 2.0 kW of heat load, the dynamic characteristics of the air-conditioning system were investigated. For a given capacity of compressor, cool down speed was monitored, and the temperature change was acceptable fur low heat load condition.

Effect of Packaging and Loading Conditions on the Quality of Late Autumn Chinese Cabbage during Cold Storage (포장 및 적입 방법이 늦가을배추의 저온저장 중 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • To extend the freshness of late autumn Chinese cabbage, the packaging and loading effects on the quality were investigated during cold storage. Judging from overall quality during storage period, late autumn Chinese cabbage could be stored by 3 months at 0$\^{C}$ cold storage. However, late autumn Chinese cabbage was not acceptable for long-term storage because of its marketability and the storage cost. Among 3 packaging methods(PP-net, carton and plastic container) for stored Chinese cabbage, plastic container and carton were more effective than PP-net packaging for the freshness prolongation. Gas composition in the plastic bags during storage was not significantly different among packaging conditions and O$_2$ and CO$_2$ concentrations were 13∼18% and 0.75∼7.48%, respectively, MAP with plastic film was effective for the quality retention because of low oxygen composition and high humidity condition in the bags.

  • Volkmann's ischemic contracture is the end result of an untreated, delayed or Inadequately decompressed compartment syndrome in which muscle ischemia and necrosis have occurred. Once the muscle necrosis have happened, the involved muscle undergo permanent change into fibrous tissue. So secondary shortening and distal joint contracture will be a final outcome, which results in marked functional impairment of hand and forearm. Even though several procedures, such as muscle sliding operation has been attempted, overall results were far from satisfaction, compare to healthy opposite hand. The management of these unfavorable condition of the forearm and hand was regarded as one of challenging area in orthopedics. Recently new approach, using microsurgical technique which transfers functioning muscle unit, has been developed and its result was much better than any other methods in the aspect of an active motion. Among these musculocutaneous free flaps, gracilis has obtained special reputation due to its easiness to handle such as elevation of flap and reliable neurovascular pedicle. Other advantages are flexibility of flap size to adjust variable size of the defect in the forearm and minor morbidity of the donor site. Authors have performed 7 cases of functioning gracilis musulocutaneous free flap transplantation for the functional loss of forearm and hand due to Volkmann's ischemic contracture or muscle and skin defect due to severe trauma since November, 1981 till May, 1991. The results in most cases were satisfactory and acceptable.

Interrelationship between Kimchi Ripening and CO2 Concentration of the Headspace in Flexible Packages Included with CO2 Absorber (CO2 흡수제 함유 김치포장에서 CO2 농도와 제품 숙성도의 상호관련성)

  • CO2 concentration in kimchi package has emerged recently as a potential index of product ripening to be monitored or sensed in intelligent packaging. Considering that addition of CO2 absorber into the flexible kimchi package changes behavior of its CO2 concentration, ripening of kimchi in total acidity, package CO2 concentration in partial pressure (PCO2) and package volume at 10℃ were estimated by mathematical model for two size packages included with different CO2 absorbers. In small size package containing 0.5 kg of kimchi, relatively less gas permeable low density polyethylene (LDPE) sachet of the absorber was found to give rise of PCO2 linearly correlated with acidity at acceptable conditions of absorber amount and size. The levels of PCO2 at optimum ripening were different with absorber amount. However, highly gas permeable microporous spunbonded film (Tyvek) sachet did not show the linear relationship except a condition of 1.5 g of CO2 absorbent. In large size package containing 2.0 kg, absorber sachets of LDPE and Tyvek could give the linear relationship between product acidity and package PCO2 but at different levels (PCO2 of package with LDPE sachet: 0.46~0.79 bar, PCO2 of package with Tyvek sachet: 0.00~0.75 bar). The PCO2 at optimal ripening was found to be less variable with LDPE sachets than with Tyvek ones. Use of package CO2 concentration as an indicator of kimchi ripening was shown to be possible on the limited conditions where the linear relationship between them is established or confirmed.

Field Survey on Suitable In-service Wind Speed Limit for Tower Crane Operation (타워크레인의 작업 중지 풍속에 대한 현장 실태 조사 연구)

  • Since tower cranes are susceptible to wind loads, the operation of the tower crane should be ceased when it exposed to a strong wind. For this reason, even in Korea, the operation limit for wind loading on the tower crane is regulated by a law. Recently the Korean law in which provided the wind speed limit to cease the tower crane operation has been revised from "instantaneous wind speed of 20 m/s" to "instantaneous wind speed of 15 m/s". Although this revision is expected to reduce safety risks in tower crane operation, some field operators still insist to lower the wind speed limit. However, in many countries "wind speed of 20 m/s" is normally used as the maximum in-service wind speed for tower cranes. Therefore, the investigation of the proper wind speed for regulation would be helpful to secure the safety of the tower crane operation under windy condition. In this study the validity of the revised wind speed limit is investigated with the surveys targeted to both tower crane practitioners and parties of concerned in construction companies, in which various questions was provided for a suitable wind speed limit and the answers were analyzed. The results showed that the revised wind speed limit is acceptable to tower crane practitioners as well as the parties of concerned in construction companies and is satisfying the structural stability requirement for in-service state tower crane. Therefore, it can be concluded that the revised wind speed limit is valid in humanly safety point of view.

Procurement Pricing Strategy for Remanufacturing System under Uncertainty in Quality of Used Product (회수 품질이 불확실한 재제조 시스템의 회수 가격 결정 모형)

  • Remanufacturing refers to restoring a used product to an acceptable condition for resale in the market of remanufactured items. In this paper, we deal with the acquisition price and remanufacturing decision for remanufacturing systems in the case where the demand for the remanufactured product in a single period is known and the return quantity of the used product is determined by its acquisition price. The quality of the acquired used product is categorized into two classes, high and low, through inspection and different qualities incur different remanufacturing costs. The probability that the acquired used product is categorized as high class can be a constant or random variable. We derive the expected total cost functions, obtain the optimal solutions, and interpret the managerial meaning of the optimal solution for each case. The sensitivity of the optimal solution with respect to the variation of the inspection cost and uncertainty of the quality of the used product is investigated through numerical examples.

Prediction of Gas Turbine Engine Steady Performance from Transient Performance Test (가스터빈엔진 천이 성능 시험에 의한 정상상태 성능 예측)

  • Methodology of predicting steady performance of gas turbine engine from transient test data was explored to develop an economic performance test technique. Discrepancy of transient performance from steady performance was categorized as dynamic, thermal and aerodynamic transient effects. Each effect was mathematically modeled and quantified to provide correction factors for calculating steady performance. Engine performance tests were conducted at Altitude Engine Test Facility of KARI. The influence of engine inlet/outlet condition change on engine performance was corrected firstly, and then steady performance was predicted from the correction factors. The result was compared with steady performance test data. This correction method showed an acceptable level of precision, 3.68% difference of fuel flow.

Effect of embryo and recipient condition on pregnancy rate following bovine embryo transfer (소 수정란이식(受精卵移植)에 있어서 수란우(受卵牛)와 수정란(受精卵)의 조건이 수태율(受胎率)에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to determine suitable selection factors for recipients and embryos which could improve pregnancy rates following bovine embryo transfer. The experiment included 52 surgical transfers from February, 1985 through June, 1986 performed on Kyungpook Breeding Center in southern Korea. The pregnancy rate was highest when recipients were in estrus within 6 hours before the donor to 12 hours after the donor (78.3% versus 50% for recipients in estrus earlier or later). Pregnancy rates were acceptable following culture under field conditions for up to 17 hours. More recipients over 15 months of age (76.1%) remained pregnant than those under 15 months (66.7%). Embryos transferred during the months from February to July resulted in higher pregnancy rates than those transferred during the remaining 6 months (77.3% versus 57.1%). Transferrable embryos were classified A (best) to C (worst); those graded A or B resulted in significantly higher pregnancy rates than those graded C (81.8% and 73.3% versus 25.0%, p<.05). Pregnancy rates among recipients of the Korean native breed tended to be higher than among Holstein recipients (100% versus 71.1%). Similarly, when the embryo was transferred to the right uterine horn, pregnancy rates tended to be higher than when it was transferred to the left (81.3% versus 65%). Pregnancy rates did not differ according to the stage of development of the embryo; they were for morulae, tight morulae, blastocysts, and advanced blastocysts, respectively: 75.0%, 66.7%, 75.0%, and 77.4%.

  • This objective of this paper is to investigate the evaluation and indiction of human thermal comfort in building environment. The issue of defining the boundaries of acceptable thermal comfort conditions in buildings and urban may have significant implication for building design and also may have urban design by climate considerations. And then it is to apply the thermal comfort condition to environmental design by using passive methods in Korea. Since 1920. architects have conducted studies to measure thermal comfort in houses under hot and humid conditions, while industrial hygienists have studied the effects of temperature and humidity on the performance of factory workers. Thermal comfort can be influenced by many variables. This paper conducted to review the previous researches and the human heat balance equation, and to analyse in order to reveal the meaning and usage of the thermal comfort index in two traditional essays, Fanger's PMV and Gagge's ET* Their comfort indexes compared with each other. They were based on human heat balance equation and psychological and physiological responses in the laboratory tests. The researchers and the architectural engineers using thermal comfort index shall be careful in decided the use of indexes and be necessary to recognize the value concept of the design criteria for thermal comfort. Therefore, The opinion of the authors is that different comfort standards have to apply for each building and urban with different climatic conditions.

Embryo Production and Transfer for Dairy MOET Scheme Application (젖소 MOET Scheme의 추진을 위한 수정란 생산 및 이식)

  • The objective of this study was to apply the multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET) program practically in dairy herds. Forty five superior Holstein cows ranked in 5% according to Type-Production Index(TPI) in Korea were selected as donors. The donors were superovulated with pFSH and the embryos collected from donors were frozen and preserved. The preserved embryos and frozen Holstein embryo imported from foreign country were thawed and transferred to recipients. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The total number of ova and freezable embryos collected per donor was 6.5 and 2.8, respectively. 2. The freezable embryos were obtained more(p<0.05) when the body condition score (BCS) of donors was in range of 2.50∼3.25(4.1) than in range of 3.50∼4.00(1.9), while the total number of ova was not changed. 3. The season affected on the collected number of freezable embryos(6.1 in winter, 4.5 in fall, 1.1∼1.5 in spring and summer, P<0.05), and the total number of obtained ova were more in winter than in other seasons(P<0.05). 4. Embryos were transferred to 343 recipients and 152 cows were confirmed pregnant(44.3%). 5. The higher pregnancy was obtained (P<0.05) when embryos were transferred in summer(53.3%) than in fall(36.0%), while the pregnancy rate was not affected by the origin and developmental stage of embryos, and the parity, BCS and estrus induction of recipients. From these results, the pregnancy rate was considered to be acceptable for the embryo transfer with domestic or imported Holstein embryos, however embryo production from superior Holstein donors was unsatisfactory for application of MOET scheme.
