  • The Science and Technology Information Service provided by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) is a service designed to allow users to easily and conveniently search and view content that is built similar to the general information service. NDSL is KISTI's core science, technology and information service, providing about 138 million content and having about 93 million page views in a year of 2019. In this paper, various insights were derived through the analysis of how science and technology information such as academic papers, reports and patents provided by NDSL is searched and utilized through web services (https://www.ndsl.kr) and search query words. In addition to general statistics such as the status of content construction, utilization status and utilization methods by type of content, monthly/weekly/time-of-day content usage, content view rate per one-time search by content type, the comparison of the use status of academic papers by year, the relationship between the utilization of domestic academic papers and the KCI index we analyzed the usability of each content type, such as academic papers and patents. We analyzed query words such as the language form of query words, the number of words of query words, and the relationship between query words and timeliness by content type. Based on the results of these analyses, we would like to propose ways to improve the service. We suggest that NDSL improvements include ways to dynamically reflect the results of content utilization behavior in the search results rankings, to extend query and to establish profile information through non-login user identification for targeted services.

  • This study investigates the effects of appearance management behaviors on job search efficacy among female college students. Based on previous studies on appearance management behaviors and job search efficacy, the questionnaire items were developed. For the study, we conducted a questionnaire survey among 312 students from women's university in Seoul. The statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 23. The results were as follows. First, three types of appearance management factors have been identified: 'fashion & hair,' 'skin care & plastic surgery,' and 'body shape'; the reliability and validity of these factors were proved. Second, the appearance management behavior of female college students found to have a partially significant effect on job search efficacy: fashion & hair factor had a positive effect on job search strength; fashion & hair factor and body shape factor had a positive effect on job search skills. While skin care & plastic surgery factor had a negative effect on job search strength and job search skill. Third, between academic years, there were differences in job search efficacy but not in appearance management behavior. By majors, there were differences among skin care & plastic surgery factor, body shape factor, and job search strength factor. These results suggest that to improve the job search efficacy, proper appearance management through fashion and hair, and body shape management is necessary. In addition, it suggests that it is important to improve the effectiveness of employment by establishing the appearance management strategy that matches the characteristics of each major.

  • This paper proposes fast millimeter-wave (mm-wave) beam training protocols with receive beamforming. Both IEEE standards and the academic literature have generally considered beam training protocols involving exhaustive search over all possible beam directions for both the beamforming initiator and responder. However, this operation requires a long time (and thus overhead) when the beamwidth is quite narrow such as for mm-wave beams ($1^{\circ}$ in the worst case). To alleviate this problem, we propose two types of adaptive beam training protocols for fixed and adaptive modulation, respectively, which take into account the unique propagation characteristics of millimeter waves. For fixed modulation, the proposed protocol allows for interactive beam training, stopping the search when a local maximum of the power angular spectrum is found that is sufficient to support the chosen modulation/coding scheme. We furthermore suggest approaches to prioritize certain directions determined from the propagation geometry, long-term statistics, etc. For adaptive modulation, the proposed protocol uses iterative multi-level beam training concepts for fast link configuration that provide an exhaustive search with significantly lower complexity. Our simulation results verify that the proposed protocol performs better than traditional exhaustive search in terms of the link configuration speed for mobile wireless service applications.

  • This study identified the purchase decision-making process of outdoor wear consumers and examined the hypothesis that consumer satisfaction mediates the relationship between purchase decision-making process and repurchase intention. Data were acquired from a survey and analyzed with descriptive, factor analysis, reliability analysis and multiple regression analysis. Respondents were 454 adults who have purchased outdoor wear. The results are as follows. First, the purchase decision-making processes of outdoor wear consumers consisted of a series of steps: need recognition & passive information search, active information search, evaluation of alternatives with practical attributes, evaluation of alternatives with unpractical attributes, purchase decision, and post-purchase evaluation. Second, four purchase decision-making processes (except for need recognition & passive information search and active information search) had significantly positive effects on consumer satisfaction. Third, the need recognition & passive information search, the evaluation of alternatives with unpractical attributes and post-purchase evaluation had significantly positive effects on repurchase intention. Lastly, the partial mediation of consumer satisfaction in the relationship between two purchase decision-making processes (evaluation of alternatives with unpractical attributes and post-purchase evaluation) and repurchase intention were indicated. This academic study will help to understand the purchase decision-making processes of outdoor wear and allow companies to obtain information (from the industrial aspect) about which process to invest in and how to manage the process.

  • Physicians have information needs related to academic research and clinical practice but encounter difficulties seeking appropriate medical resources and information. The goal of this study is to develop a search system to support Korean physicians' information needs. To access sources to meet the identified need, in-depth interviews were conducted, and MediSearching, a new search system, was developed accordingly. To verify its usefulness and to obtain users' suggestions, interviews were conducted and feedback was solicited via collected test searches. The initial set of interviews indicated that physicians' information needs and search behaviors differed by type of hospital and clinical department. Physicians in university hospitals with a greater need for research materials searched for academic articles, whereas physicians in specialty hospitals or primary care clinics with a stronger need for materials related to clinical practice asked their colleagues for information. Consequently, MediSearching was designed to satisfy both groups' needs, and the test search provided useful search results compared with existing services. Korean physicians have previously had to repeat their search process on separate sites that provide different services according to type of information and search method. MediSearching may reduce this inconvenience and add documents in various formats and languages.

  • As the 4G and 5G Internet technologies become more common and developed, an environment for uploading and watching videos is created and spread, in addition to simply uploading posts. Watching and sharing daily life among media contents called Vlog, are very common more than ever. This means that individual users could access Vlog easily and the situation could be new trend. Additionally, academic research about Volg is increasing. We analyzed three independent variables affecting a perceived enjoyment we set up the dependent variable. Information search, self-expression, and social need are set as independent variables and social interaction is set as the control variable. Information search and self-expression are significant effect to perceived enjoyment except social need. In particular, social interaction as a control variable has effect to all relationships.
