  • The rheological properties of seven mixed sugar solutions of glucose, fructose, maltose, sucrose, and two kinds of honey, the chestnut and the acacia, were discussed. The fluidity of the above samples were studied by using the applied pressure horizontal viscometer with which glycerine was confirmed to be a Newtonian flow at $25^{\circ}C$. Time required to pass the constant volume of the sample fluids through the capillary was measured at various pressure differences, ${\Delta}p$, and the ${\Delta}p$ vs ${\Delta}p{\cdot}t$ in the Poiseuille equation was plotted. Shear rate against shearing stress, on the other hand, was plotted for the sample fluids and it was found that all the sample fluids have shown a Newtonian behavior. It was interesting to note that the shear viscosity increased as the concentration of sugar solutions increased, and as the concentration of sucrose became higher than that of maltose, although the total concentration of sugar solution is constant.

  • Quantification of Carbon stock has become in the contest of changing climate and mitigation potential of forests. Two different forest types, Dry Shiwalik Sal Forest and Moist Shiwalik Sal Forest in Barkot and Lachchiwala of Doon Valley, Western Himalaya are selected for the study. Volume equations, destructive sampling and laboratory analysis are done to estimate the carbon stock in different carbon pools like trees, shrubs, herbs and soils. Considerable variations are observed in terms of carbon stocks in different forest types. In Dry Shiwalik Sal Forest, carbon stock density varied between 129.81 and $136.00MgCha^{-1}$ while in Moist Shiwalik Sal Forest, carbon stock density ranged from 222.29 to $271.67MgCha^{-1}$. Tree species like Shorea robusta, Syzigium cumini, Miliusa velutina, Acacia catechu, and Mallotus philippensis had significant role in carbon sequestration. Shorea robusta had contributed highest in carbon stock due to highest density. Total of 2,338,280.165 Mg carbon stock was estimated in all the forest types.

  • Vegetatiion structure and population dynamcis of pine needle gall midge were investigated from 1980 to 1982 at the southern part of Palgong mountain near Daegu. The results of investigation at the areas of A (pure stand), B(30% mixed forest) adn C(60% mixed forest) were as follow; Vegeation of 3 areas were not classified by the species diversity, but by the unequal distribution of Alnus hirsuta, Robinia pseudo-acacia, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya, Quercus variabilis and vitality of Pinus densiflora at the area C was low, due to shadow by broad-leaf trees. Soil environmental factors at 3 areas not characteristic, but the average of humus contents showed high significance and the order was A

  • The present experiments have been conducted to find out the plant's growth environments habitate, mode of life, characteristic of photosynthesis, habit of growth and propagation. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Sambucus williamsii var. Coreana distributes around all sides of native site without having any relation to altitude, inclination and direction. 2. In the native site, Robinia pseudo - acacia and its neighboring species were Prunus yedoensis, Acer pseudo-sieboldianum, Lindera obtusiloba and Staphylea bumalda. From 21 to 41 types of species were located in the vegetation of the quadrat area. 3. According to the variation of leaf temperature with the result of the change of net photosynthetic rate, the optimum temperature for growth is $25^{\circ}C$. 4. The rooted rate of vegetative propagation was the highest at 100ppm IBA plot and the lowest at 200ppm BA plot. 5. The rooted rates of Sambucus williamsii var. coreana in perlite 50% bed, vermiculite bed and peatmoss 50%+sand 50% bed are higher than others.

  • In order to investigate the host range of the mosaic disease of black locust in the Chunchon area, the sap of the mosaic-diseased leaves of black locust itself and the cowpea leaves infected with the above mentioned sap, were inoculated to 53 species of plants belong to 12 families. As to the result, no difference in infection was found as related to the virus sources, and the infection was recognized in 4 species of the family Chenopodiaceae and 8 species of the family Leguminosae. The plants recognized as hosts are as follows: the plants which showed local infection are Chenopodium album, Ch. ambrosioides, Ch. quinoa; the plants which showed systemic infection are Chenopodium amaranticolor, Phaseolus vulgaris, Robinia pseudo-acacia, Vigna sinensis; and Astragalus sinicus, Melilotus indicus, Phaseolus angularis, Pisum sativum and Vicia faba were recognized as carriers. Through investigating its host ranges and symptoms, this mosaic virus of black locust seems not to be regarded as the group of the black locust mosaic virus in southeastern Europe reported by Milinko et al (1961). And, too, it is thought hardly to exist in combination with the cowpea mosaic virus. It appears, therefore, that this mosaic virus was confined to that of black locust.

  • Using gelatin and acacia as wall and electronic ink as core substance, microcapsules were prepared by complex coacervation to fabricate a flexible electronic paper display. In order to obtain the microcapsules in a narrow dispersed distribution, we focus on the interfacial tension between the hydrophobic electrophoretic ink and an aqueous polyelectrolyte solution, through controlling sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) concentration and stirring rate. The existence of anionic surfactant of SDS not only decreases the droplet diameters, but also reduces the diameter size distribution. And, as the stirring rate is increased, the average size of microcapsule is also decreased.

  • The rheological properties of some honey-ginseng powder mixturs, used as pharmaceutical pills, were studied extensively by employing five kinds of honey, acacia, chestnut, buckwheat, green perilla and bush clover. Relation between the viscosity of the sample mixtures and the concentrations of ginseng powder and the temperature effect on the internal change of the structure were studied. The results obtained are as follows: 1) A complete gel formation of honey-ginseng mixtures was observed when about 50 days have passed after the sample preparation. 2) The viscosity of honey-ginseng powder mixtures was related with the concentration of ginseng powder, the temperature and the period of time required in gel formation as shown in the following equation. n=noexp$[{\kappa}_{1}c^{n1}+{\kappa}_{2}(T-273)^{-n2}+{\kappa}_{3} t^{n3}]$

  • Nylon microcapsules of sodium salicylate containing three different matrixes, acacia, gelatin and formalized gelatin, were prepared by interfacial polymerization and the effect of the matrix on the dissolution rate of sodium salicylate from its nylon microcapsule was investigated. The microcapsules were spherical and their particle diameter increased in proportion to the amount of matrix. The surface was different from each other according to the kind and the amount of matrix when observed by the scanning electron microscopy. The dissolution rate of sodium salicylate from its microcapsules was decreased by increase of the amount of matrix and the formalized gelatin most decreased the dissolution rate of drugs.
