  • The reactions of thermal hydrogen atoms H(g) with the Ge(100) surface were examined with temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) mass spectrometry. Concomitant $H_2$ and $CH_4$ TPD spectra taken from the H(g)-irradiated Ge(100) surface were distinctly different for low and high H(g) doses/substrate temperatures. Reactions suggested by our data are: (1) adsorbed mono(${\beta}_1$)-/di-hydride(${\beta}_2$)-H(a) formation; (2) H(a)-by-H(g) abstraction; (3) $GeH_3$(a)-by-H(g) abstraction (Ge etching); and (4) hydrogenated amorphous germanium a-Ge:H formation. While all these reactions occur, albeit at higher temperatures, also on Si(100), H(g) absorption by Ge(100) was not detected. This is in contrast to Si(100) which absorbed H(g) readily once the surface roughened on the atomic scale. While this result is rather against expectation from its weaker and longer Ge-Ge bond as well as a larger lattice constant, we attribute the absence of direct H(g) absorption to insufficient atomic-scale surface roughening and to highly efficient subsurface hydrogenation at moderate (>300 K) and low (${\leq}300K$) temperatures, respectively.

  • The characteristics of phosphate adsorption-desorption on kaolinite was studied by batch adsorption experiments and detailed adsorbed state of phosphate on kaolinite surface was investigated using ATR-FTIR (Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Infrared) spectroscopy. The phosphorous contents were measured using UV-VIS-IR spectrophotometer with 820 nm wavelength. The adsorbed P was generally increased with increasing pH value in the range of pH 4 to pH 9, however it is not distinct. Moreover the adsorbed P was significantly changed with different initial phosphate concentration. The adsorption isotherms were well fitted with the Langmuir equation, Temkin equation, and Freundlich equation in descending order. The maximum Langmuir adsorption capacity of kaolinite KGa-2 is 232.5 ($204.1{\sim}256.5$) mg/kg and has very higher value than that of kaolinite KGa-1b. Most of adsorbed phosphate on kaolinite were not easily desorbed to aqueous solution, but might fixed on kaolinite surface. However it needs further research about the exact desorption experiment. It was impossible to recognize phosphorous adsorption bands on kaolinite in ATR-FTIR spectrum from kaolinite bands themselves, because the absorption peaks of phosphorous have very similar positions with those of kaolinite, and the intensities of the former were very weak in comparison with those of the latter.

  • The hydrogen fuel tanks having hydrogen storing capacity of about 300g and 1200g are manufactured using $MmNi_{4.7}Al_{0.25}V_{0.05}Fe_{0.001}$ alloy. They are composed of several unit reactor made of Cu-tube(outer diameter = 50.1mm, thickness = 2mm). In order to increase the heat and mass transfer property of the hydride bed, Al-plates are inserted perpendicular to axial direction at intervals of 5mm and three arteries of diameter 8mm are installed symmetrically in each unit reactor. Hydrogen absorption is proceeded about 80% within 30 minute and is completed within 60 minute at the conditions of charging hydrogen pressure of 25atm and temperature of $22^{\circ}C$. On desorbing hydrogen at a constant rate of 30 slm at $20^{\circ}C$, discharging hydrogen pressure is sustained at 3~5atm for 120 minutes. The discharging pressure is increased upto 5~8atm as the increase of the reactor temperature to $30^{\circ}C$. From the experimental results and the brief discussions about the hydrogen absorption and disorption behaviors of the hydrogen storage tank, it is suggested that the behaviors of hydrogen charging and discharging could be controlled by adjusting the operating parameters and the reactor design parameters.

  • Mg hydride had high hydrogen capacity (7.6%), lightweight and low cost materials and it was promising hydrogen storage material at high temperature. However, commercial applications of the Mg hydride are currently hindered by its high absorption/desorption temperature, and very slow reaction kinetics. one of the approaches to improve the kinetic is $MgH_x$ intermixed with carbon. And it shows that carbon and carbon allotropes have a beneficial effect on hydrogen sorption in Mg. The graphene is a kind of carbon allotropes which is easily desorbed reaction at low temperatures because its reaction is exothermic. In this work, the effect of graphene concentration on the kinetics of Mg hydrogen absorption reaction was investigated. The $MgH_x$-Graphene composites has been prepared by hydrogen induced mechanical alloy (HIMA). The synthesized powder was characterized by XRD and simultaneous TG, DSC analysis. The hydrogenation behaviors were evaluated by using a sievert's type automatic PCT apparatus. In this research, results of kinetic profiles exhibit hydrogen absorption rate of $MgH_x$-5wt.% and 10wt.% graphene composite, as 1.25wt.%/ms, 10.33wt.%/ms against 0.88wt.%/ms for $MgH_x$ alone at 473K.

  • Carbon nanofibers with nano-sized structures were evaluated as a active material using supercacitor electrode which could store electrochemical energy reversibly. A feasibility of EDLC electrode was estimated with specific surface area measurement by BET method and mesopore structure of carbon nanofiber surface could be explained electrochemical absorption-desorption in aqueous electrolyte. A capacitance of carbon nanofiber electrode was increased gradually, depending on the ratio of Ketjenblack as a conducting material. Ketjen Black $20{\sim}25\;wt.%$ ratio in electrode was observed a suitable amount of conducting material by cyclic voltametry results.

  • In the manufacturing process of PCB , three kinds of VOCs such as aceton, methanol and 2-metoxyethanol are being used. In this study, adsorption characteristics of activated carbon fibers(ACFs) and active carbon were examined to temove these VOCs. The experimental results showed that ACF has better adsorption and regeneration efficiency than activated carbon. Phenolic-resin based ACF showed the highest adsorption capacity and the capacity was not decreased after repeated regeneration by steam. On the adsorption and desorption experiments for ternary components, preferential adsorption with roll-over phenomena was appeared. 2-Metoxyethanol was strong adsorbaste and it displaced adsorbed methanol and aceton.

  • This study was conducted for a rapid and simple method using GC/FID and SPME to dectermin gasonline and chlorinated solvents simultaneity. A sodium chloride concentration of 25%(vol/w) combined with such as magnetic stirried, an absorption time of 20min, an extraction temperature of 4$0^{\circ}C$, the volume of minimized 50mL of gaseous phase and a desorption time of 5min pleprovided the greatest sensitivity while maintaining analytical efficiency. Analytical parameter such as linearity was also evaluated. The linear range extend from 30 to 500ppb. The results of chlorinated solvents and gasoline mixed samples showed that solvents have been completely removed from the sample preparation step and more accurated than those obtained by the other methods.

  • Hydrogen is the ideal candidate as an alternative energy carrier, so many hydrogen storage methods are investigated. The hydrogen storage method using metal hydride is good candidate as energy sources for portable devices because hydrogen-storage as metal hydride shows large volumetric storage density. In this study, we investigated the variations of hydrogen charging/discharging performance of metal hydride tanks at different temperature conditions. We charged metal hydride tanks with hydrogen in low temperature because of the exothermic reactions of hydrogen absorption while we discharged in high temperature to provide sufficient heat because of the endothermic reactions of desorption. In addition, we investigated the difference of hydrogen charging/discharging performance between two tanks having different sizes.

  • Laminate Design of a composite tube for a space telescope(Fig. 1) under hygrothermal load is studied. Carpet plots for laminate effective engineering constants are generated and used for selecting the best tube lay-ups satisfying the optomechanical requirements for a space telescope being dimensional1y stable under orbital thermal loading. Despace of the tubes constructed with the selected lay-ups are calculated with a Zig-Zag Triangular Element which accurately represents through thickness stress variations for laminated structures. The effects of moisture absorption when exposed to humidity environment and moisture desorption through outgassing on the dimensional stability are also investigated.

  • Effect of nickel powder to added to the hydrogen absorbing alloy electrode of $MmNi_{4.5}-xCoxMn_{0.3}Al_{0.2}$ system alloy was investigated. The addition of nickel powder was effective for the improvement of discharging characteristic. It was found that the discharge capacity was 310mAhig when the alloy negative electrode was mixed $MmNi_{3.75}CO_{0.75}Mn_{0.3}Al_{0.2}$ and nickel powder with a mix of one to three. Still another, we have investigated thermodynamic stability of hydrogen in the alloy negative electrode. As a result, enthalpy of hydrogen and hydrogen equilibrium pressure in the alloy negative electrode were a suitable value to easy hydrogen absorption-desorption.
