In this study, Shock Absorption performance of Magneto-rheological elastomer(MRE) is identified through the drop impact test. Magneto-rheological materials are divided into two groups by MR fluid in fluid state and MR elastomer in solid state like rubber. The stiffness characteristics of Magneto-rheological material can be changed as magnetic field is applied. The impact loads in MR elastomer were measured under weight of impactor. Experiment results are shown through the experiments to confirm the effect of shock absorption of MR elastomer. Thus, the MR elastomer can be applied to shock absorber used in area that shock occurs.
This study is conducted to evaluate the performance of ceramic panels and painting materials for humidity control which are developed in non-plastic room temperature hardening structure as part of a project to improve a residential environment for the low-income class, rather than the performance of high-priced humidity control materials that are produced with the existing plasticity processing. The testing methods included the measurements of absorption & desoprtion of humidity per material; Mock-up Testing; an evaluation method of comparing the absorption & desoprtion performances of Ecocarat, ceramic panels and painting materials through Living Lab. According to the measurements of absorption & desoprtion per material, ceramic panels, E panel, and ceramic painting material showed 73.3g/m2, 96.6g/m2, and 111.1g/m2, respectively. That is, the performance of humidity control of each material was found to be good in the order of: Ceramic Paint > E panel > Ceramic Panel. According to performance evaluation testing with Mock-up test and Living Lab, Ceramic Paint, Ecocarat, and Ceramic Panels showed better absorption & desoprtion performances in the order.
A gas-fired 4RT absorption heat pump was designed as an air-conditioner for domestic use during the summer. The absorption heat pump is air-cooled. double-effect, $LiBr-H_{2}O$ system with parallel flow type. The performance of the absorption heat pump in the cooling mode of operation was investigated through cycle modeling and simulation to obtain the system characteristics with parameter changes. System parameters considered in this analysis were the inlet temperature of cooling air to the absorber, the working solution concentrations, the ratio of the amount of the weak solution from the absorber, and the LTD's of each heat exchange component. The optimum designs and operating conditions were determined based on the operating constraints and the coefficient of performance.
An absorption heat pump cycle has been modeled and simulated to analyze the system performance of water-cooled, series-flow, double-effect absorption heat pump, which can be applied to a direct gas fired cooling system with the medium range of cooling capacity (15RT level). Effect of absorption cooling system parameters, such as concentration difference, inlet temperature of cooling water, 1st generator temperature, leaving temperature differences of condenser and evaporator and efficiency of solution heat exchanger, has been investigated in the view of system cooling performance.
A new estimation model of predicting the sound absorption performance for multiple perforated plate sound absorbing system was developed using transfer matrix method. The proposed method was validated by comparing the calculated absorption coefficients of a single layer perforated plate with the values measured by the two-microphone impedance tube method far various porosity and cavity depth. The developed transfer matrix method was further applied to estimate the multiple layer perforated plates and it is shown that the estimated absorption coefficients generally agree well with the measured values.
The acoustic absorption of a multiple layer perforated plate system is very good near the resonance frequency region, while it has been regarded as a demerit that its frequency bandwidth is considerably narrow. In order to overcome such a demerit, the parallel perforated plates with different porosities are proposed. The sound absorption of such system composed of a parallel perforated plate is calculated by an equivalent electroatoustic circuit approach and validated by comparing the calculated absorption coefficients with those measured by the two-microphone impedance tube method. The sound absorptive characteristics and performance of parallel perforated plate systems are discussed from a standpoint of frequency bandwidth related with sound absorption.
The present study investigated the effect of diameter and length on the absorption performance of a vertical falling film type absorber using $LiBr-H_2$O solution of 60 wt%. The parameters were diameter of absorber (17.2, 23.4, 31.1 mm), length of absorber (771, 1150, 1528 mm), and film Reynolds numbers (50, 70, 90, 110, 130, 150). As the diameter of the absorber was increased, the absorption mass flux, Sherwood number, heat flux, and heat transfer coefficient were increased, in which Sherwood number and heat transfer coefficient were increased up to 13% and 30% respectively. As the length of the absorber was increased, the total absorption rate and heat transfer coefficient were increased by 37% and 35% respectively, while the absorption mass flux was decreased.
The objectives of this paper are to study the absorption characteristics of $NH_3$ bubbles in the binary nanofluids and to quantify the effects of surfactants and nano-particles on the bubble absorption performance. 2-Ethyl-1-Hexanol, n-Octanol, and 2-Octanol are used as the surfactants and nano-sized $Al_{2}O_3$ and Cu particles are added to make the binary nanofluids into $NH_3/H_{2}O$ solution. The concentration of $NH_3$ solution ($x_s$), the concentration of surfactants ($x_{SA}$), and the mass fraction of nano-particles ($w_{np}$) are considered as key parameters. The experimented ranges of $x_s,\;x_{SA},\;and\;w_{np}$ are $0{\sim}17.92\%,\;0{\sim}1,500\;ppm\;and\;0{\sim}0.2\%$, respectively. The absorption rates are calculated by measuring initial and final weights of test section and exposed time. In addition, the bubble absorption processes are visualized using the shadow graphic method. The results show that the absorption performance is significantly enhanced up to 4 times by adding the surfactants and up to 3 times in the binary nanofluids.
Sound absorbing materials used for lightweight panels and interior material are mainly made of fibroid material such as glass wool or rock wool. However these fiber type sound absorbing materials have some problems such that sound absorption could be decreased as time goes by because of durability. In addition, dust scattering from fiber type material can cause another problem in health. In this point of view, this study aims to develop environment friendly sound absorbing material using Hwangto(so called loess or yellow soil), a traditional housing material. Hwangto is natural housing material in Korea and generally known for improving indoor air quality. Hwangto panel is made to construct on the floor, wall and ceiling, and expected that there is not enough absorption. Present study tried to develop environment friendly sound absorbing material that has high sound absorption performance with good environment performance in terms of air quality. Pore rate was designed to maximize the absorption in the specific frequency bands, and two kinds of backing space were applied in order to see the effect of backing space. As a result peak frequency that has maximum absorption is going high as the pore rate is increased. The backing space provides more absorption and makes the peak frequency down to low.
