  • Digital Multimedia Broadcasting is the next generation broadcasting service which enables various digital multimedia contents, i.e., audio and video, and data access for mobile users. However, due to the bandwidth limitation, the spatial resolution is limited to CIF(Common Interleaved Frame). The Advanced Terrestrial DMB (AT-DMB) secures additional bandwidth by adopting hierarchical modulation transmission technology and provides high data rate and quality for mobile multimedia broadcasting services with scalable video coding(SVC). This paper proposes scalable video coding technology for AT-DMB which enables high quality mobile multimedia broadcasting services that exceeds current DMB service's quality and contents capability.

  • The DMB standards allow to transmit IP data on IP Tunneling. It is able to DMB data localcasting services using technologies as assigning IP address, encapsulating IP packets, guiding IP data service and, exchanging IP packet at the local area. As the result of that, we can have good experiences as rich and localized multimedia on the DMB networks.

  • This letter presents a hybrid conditional access system (CAS) for advanced terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (AT-DMB). The proposed architecture is characterized by its use of a unified CAS channel and various communication networks for CAS message transmissions. We implement a prototype CAS based on the hybrid architecture, which improves the CAS message transmission efficiency greatly compared to the existing T-DMB CAS standard and supports various AT-DMB interlayer services more easily and efficiently.

  • SBS has developed "Social DMB App" and now the service through Android market, where the viewers can produce and share their emotion related in program using twitter while watching real-time DMB broadcasting program at the same time. Previously, it is difficult to combine TV and social media because of the difference of family shared medium and individual service. But, DMB, individual mobile broadcast service, can offer new interest to the viewer by integrating social media service and broadcast. The service base was provided to the viewer where they can use original contents of broadcasters by constructing social circle and they are able to express and share their emotion through social DMB app. In this paper, introduce of development technical for social DMB app service include of configuration app servic, link of DMB broadcasting and facebook.

  • Terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting(T-DMB) is one of mobile broadcasting services, and the commercial service was started in December 2005 in Korea. The performance targets of T-DMB are providing VCD(video CD) quality video and FM radio quality audio. In recent years, the researches for providing high quality video or audio service on T-DMB environments have been being carried out. To provide high-quality video or audio service, some additional data should be transmitted to the receiver as well as T-DMB video and audio data. Since the data rate for one T-DMB program is low, it is important to transmit the additional data at a low bit rate. In this paper, we propose a packetizing method for efficient transmission of the additional data to provide multichannel audio service on T-DMB environment.

  • This paper presents an analytical analysis about neighboring UWB interferences in a S-DMB receiver. We first derive the C/N$_{o}$ of a S-DMB receiver, based on its specifications and present the theoretical description of its effect to UWB interferences in terms of C/(N$_{o}$+ I) and I/N$_{o}$. Using the calculated C/(N$_{o}$+ I) and I/N$_{o}$, we derive the separation distance for a S-DMB receiver not to be interfered by UWB interferences. Finally, we propose an UWB emission limit at minimum separation distance under which a S-DMB is free of UWB interferences and compare it with the value appeared in FCC proposal.

  • In this paper, Satellite DMB/WiBro antenna and PCS/WiBro antenna improving indoor coverage for mobile services are designed and fabricated. Satellite DMB/WiBro bands repeater antenna and PCS/WiBro bands repeater antenna are proposed as a simple radiator with loading capacitor to generate LHCP(Left Hand Circular Polarization). The proposed antenna for Satellite DMB/WiBro and PCS/WiBro bands communication are fabricated by copper plate uploader type and substrate uploader type. The designed and fabricated antenna has a bandwidth of 70MHz at 1.816GHz~1.886GHz and bandwidth of 107MHz at 2.247GHz~2.354GHz. Maximum gain of radiation pattern was up to 5dBi.

  • In OFDM system, the out-of-band radiation of ensemble interferes with the adjacent ensemble and result in the reduction of receiving performance. So the reduction scheme of out-of-band radiation is very important. In this paper, a time-domain windowing method to reduce the out-of-band radiation is considered to DAB systems. We adopt the considered method to T-DMB(DAB mode-1) and AT-DMB Systems, and we get about 3-dB gains of out-of-band radiation. And also we show that the considered method doesn't reduce the BER performance.

  • Satellite digital multimedia broadcasting (S-DMB) systems use gap fillers (GFs) to provide wireless multimedia services to non-line-of-sight locations. GFs act as repeaters, and S-DMB systems require GF networks in order to guarantee mobile reception. Each GF covers a cell or sector. In order to provide contiguous coverage of an area comprising two or more cells or sectors, multiple GFs are needed. However, when multiple GFs are situated close to each other, interference is likely to occur. As a result, in this study, we have investigated system-level environments for planning the design of interference-free GF networks in S-DMB systems. Our investigations revealed that S-DMB services are unavailable because of quality deterioration caused by interference when the delay attributable to a GF and the satellite signals exceeds ${\pm}$256 chips and the distance between the GF and its reception terminal is greater than 4.6 km. On the basis of this analysis, we conducted a field test that confirmed that the above-mentioned time delay can be controlled in such a way as to ensure high quality S-DMB services.

  • With dramatic development of IT technology and start of DMB service, installing the DMB equipment in a vehicle for watching TV programs and literal or pictorial traffic information are increasing. Watching the DMB during driving the vehicle could cause visual and cognitive distraction to drivers as much as eating food, operating radio and using mobile phone. However, there is not much empirical research for this topic and no research examined the effect of watching the DMB on driving behaviors in Korea. So, the present study examined the effect of watching the DMB on the driving behaviors with car simulator experiment. Within subject design was used in the study. That is, all subjects drove the vehicle both in the watching DMB condition and the non-watching DMB condition. The results indicated that subjects in the watching DMB condition took longer time to arrive at the destination and operated accelerator and brake pedal rapidly than subjects in the non-watching DMB condition. That is, their overall driving stability was lower than non-watching subjects'. Additionally, we examined the difference among the DMB control conditions (i.e., keypad condition, touch-pad condition and remote controller condition) in the driving behaviors. Finally, we discussed the limitations and the implications of the present study.
