  • We propose a method to estimate the asymptotic stability region(ASR) of a mismatched uncertain variable structure system with a bounded controller. The uncertain system under consideration may have mismatched parameter uncertainties in the state matrix. Using linear matrix inequalities(LMIs) we estimate the ASR and we show the quadratic stability of the closed-loop control system in the estimated ASR. We also give a simple LMI-based algorithm for estimating the ASR. Finally, we give a numerical example in order to show the effectiveness of our method.

  • IEEE 802.11ax is a protocol being developed for high-density Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN). Several algorithms have been proposed to improve the level of spatial reuse applied in IEEE 802.11ax. However, these algorithms are tentative and do not specify how to select the transmit power and carrier sense threshold in practice; It is unclear when and why the tuned parameters lead to better network performance. In this paper, we restricted the scale of transmit power tuning to prevent the case of backfire in which spatial reuse will result in transmission failure. If the restrictions cannot be satisfied, spatial reuse will be abandoned. This is why we named the proposed scheme as Arbitration based Spatial Reuse (ASR). We quantified the network performance after spatial reuse, and formulate a corresponding maximum problem whose solution is the optimal carrier sense threshold and transmit power. We verified our theoretical analysis by simulation and compared it with previous studies, and the results show that ASR improves the throughput up to 8.6% compared with 802.11ax. ASR can avoid failure of spatial reuse, while the spatial reuse failure rate of existing schemes can up to 36%. To use the ASR scheme in practice, we investigate the relation between the optimal carrier sense threshold and transmit power. Based on the relations got from ASR, the proposed Relation based Spatial Reuse (RSR) scheme can get a satisfactory performance by using only the interference perceived and the previously found relations.

  • This paper presents an efficient speech interactive agent rendering smooth car navigation and Telematics services, by employing embedded automatic speech recognition (ASR), distributed speech recognition (DSR) and text-to-speech (ITS) modules, all while enabling safe driving. A speech interactive agent is essentially a conversational tool providing command and control functions to drivers such' as enabling navigation task, audio/video manipulation, and E-commerce services through natural voice/response interactions between user and interface. While the benefits of automatic speech recognition and speech synthesizer have become well known, involved hardware resources are often limited and internal communication protocols are complex to achieve real time responses. As a result, performance degradation always exists in the embedded H/W system. To implement the speech interactive agent to accommodate the demands of user commands in real time, we propose to optimize the hardware dependent architectural codes for speed-up. In particular, we propose to provide a composite solution through memory reconfiguration and efficient arithmetic operation conversion, as well as invoking an effective out-of-vocabulary rejection algorithm, all made suitable for system operation under limited resources.

  • Supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) such as fly ash, ground granulated blast furnace slag and silica fume are now being extensively used in concrete to control expansion due to alkali-silica reactivity (ASR). However, the replacement level of a single SCM needed to deleterious ASR expansion and cracking may create other problem and concerns. For example, incorporating silica fume at levels greater than 10% by mass of cement may lead to dispersion and workability concerns, while fly ash can lead to poor strength development at early age, The combination of silica fume and fly ash in ternary cementitious system may alleviate this and other concerns, and result in a number of synergistic effects. The aim of the study was to enable evaluation of more realistic suitability of a silica fume-fly ash combination system for ASR resistance based on an in-house modification of ASTM C 1260 test method. The modification can be more closely identified with actual field conditions. In this study three different strengths of NaOH test solution(1N, 0.5N, and 0.25N) were used to measure the expansion characteristics of mortar bar made with a reactive aggregate. The other variable included longer testing period of 28 days instead of a conventional 14 days.

  • As a means of human interface, this study designs Developed-ERES/WCS with voice recognition capability and fuzzy set theory. In the advanced teleoperator system, when an error occurs on the automatic mode, the error is recovered after the automatic mode is changed into the manual mode intervened by a human. The purpose of this study is to reduce human work load and to shorten error recovery time during error recovery.

  • The fact that error probability is higher in wireless communication environment than the one in a fixed network makes it inappropriate to apply the same DLC (Data Link Control) protocol used in a wireline network to a wireless network. And since the existing DLC protocol for wireless network was optimized for low-rate data service, it is not suitable for a wireless network environment which should support high-speed and multimedia traffic. Therefore it is desperate to have a new DLC protocol for todays wireless mobile communication environment. In this paper, we propose an error control scheme in WATM (Wireless Asynchronous Transfer Mode) environment. which supportsmultiple traffic attributes, high-speed, multimedia data service. In this paper we modified the existing ASR ARQ (Adaptive Selective Repeat Automatic Repeat Request) protocol where cells exceeding maximum allowable delay range are discarded. And adding FEC (Forward Error Correction) for delay-sensitive traffic resulted in smaller increase of transmission delay.

  • Objectives: This study was aimed to analyze the trends of cancer incidence and evaluate the quality control of cancer registration data in Jeollabuk-do from 2001 to 2010. Methods: Incidence data of all cancers and indices of quality of cancer registration data in Jeollabuk-do for the 10-year period were obtained from the Population-based Regional Cancer Registry in the Jeonbuk Regional Cancer Center. Trends in crude incidence rate (CR) and age-standardized incidence rate (ASR) for all cancers and incidence rates for major cancer sites by gender were analyzed. Joinpoint regression tool was used to describe and quantify trends. And the completeness and validity of cancer registration data were analyzed. Results: The major cancer sites in males were the stomach (22.2%), lung (16.6%), colorectum (12.8%), liver (12.3%) and prostate (6.2%), and in females were the thyroid (17.8%), stomach (14.7%), breast (11.6%), colorectum (11.5%) and lung (7.7%). Between 2001 to 2010, ASR for all cancers increased 13.7% in men, 68% in women, and 36.5% overall. ASR for all cancers increased by 1.2% per year in males and by 6.7% per year in females from 2001 to 2010. In the quality control of the cancer registration data between 2001 and 2010, death certificate only (DCO%) for men was decreased from 5.6% to 1.3% and DCO% for women decreased from 6.1% to 1.8%. Microscopic verification (MV%) increased in both men and women. And mortality/incidence ratio (MI%) declined in both men and women. Conclusions: The cancer incidence during the 10 years (2001-2010) in Jeollabuk-do was increasing especially for the colorectum and prostate in men, and for the thyroid and breast in women. The overall quality control of the cancer registry was gradually improving.

  • Muscle protein synthesis in vitro was measured in chicks fed low-protein(10% CP) and control(20% CP) diets. Right leg muscles (M. gastrocnemius) were mounted on a support made of stainless steel to stretch in constant tension, whereas left leg muscles were unmounted. Both leg muscles were incubated in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium including L-[$4-^3H$] phenylalanine for 60 min to measure in vitro protein synthesis. There was no significant difference in fractional synthesis rate(FSR) of muscle protein between both dietary protein levels, whereas FSR with stretch in constant tension was significantly higher than that without constant tension due to an increase in the absolute synthesis rate(ASR) per unit RNA(the efficiency of RNA to synthesize protein). The ASR of muscle protein in chicks fed the control diet was significantly higher than that in the low-protein diet group.

  • The distresses of alkali-silica reaction (ASR) was recently reported at highway cement concrete pavement in Korea, which showed typical cracking and spalling patterns of ARS. Korea is was no longer safe zone against ASR, needding to find a control methodology against ASR. The purpose of this research was to provide a control methodology against ASR using mineral admixtures through a series of laboratory test program. Laboratory works included the accelerated mortar bar test (AMBT) by ASTM C 1260 regulation with five types of aggregate and three types of mineral admixtures (fly ash, ground granulated blast-furnace slag and silica fume). The result of ASTM C 1260 test for five types of aggregates without mineral admixtures showed that Siltstone and Mudstone were found to be "reactive." Tuff and Andesite-1 were found to be "possiblely reactive." In case of concrete mixed with 10, 20, and 30% fly ash, all specimens except Mudstone mixed with 10% FA were found to be "non-reactive". In cases of concrete mixed with 30, 40, and 50% ground granulated blast-furnace slag and 5, 7.5, and 10% silica fume, all specimens were found to be "non-reactive." These results could be selectively applied in constructions in Korea.

  • Domestic automotive shredder residue (ASR) recycling facilities must comply with 60% of the energy recovery criteria calculated by the waste control act, based on resource circulation of electrical and electronic equipment and vehicles. The method of calculating energy recovery criteria was newly enacted on November 6, 2017, and it has been judged that it is necessary to consider applicability. In this study, the energy recovery efficiency of 7 units was calculated by past and present calculation methods. Furthermore, this study attempts to find applicability and a method of increasing the energy recovery efficiency by taking advantage of available potentials. An analysis of the calculation results showed that the average values calculated by past methods, present methods, and the method that includes available potentials are 76.35%, 70.68%, and 78.24%, respectively. Therefore, the new calculation method for energy recovery efficiency is also applicable to domestic automotive shredder residue recycling facilities.
