  • A RecA-like protein (RecAps) was identified from fluorescent Pseudomonas sp. and the inducible nature of the protein was characterized in detail. It was shown by dose-response and time-course experiments using two DNA damaging agents, nalidixic acid and mitomycin-C, that the cellular level of RecAps protein was increased 3-8 fold compared to that of the control. The most effective doses of nalidixic acid and mitomycin-C for the protein induction were $30{\mu}g/ml$ and $0.3{\mu}g/ml$ at the treatment time point of 150 min, respectively. The enhanced level of RecAps protein was gradually decreased to the control level after 10 hr in normal medium. Interestingly, the cellular level of RecAps protein was increased by the same DNA damaging agents even when cell growth was completely inhibited by treatment with $170{\mu}g/ml$ of chloramphenicol, an inhibitor of protein synthesis, suggesting that new protein synthesis is not required for the induction of RecAps. All these results suggest that a typical S0S repair function driven by RecA-like protein is conserved in Pseudomonas sp. cells as in E, coli.

  • This paper considers that advanced planning and scheduling (APS) in manufacturing and the efficient purchasing where each customer order has its due date and multi-suppliers exit We present a Make-ToOrder Supply Chan (MTOSC) model of efficient purchasing process from multi-suppliers and APS with outsourcing in a supply chain, which requires the absolute due date and minimized total cost. Our research has included two states. One is for efficient purchasing from suppliers: (a) selection of suppliers for required parts; (b) optimum part leadtime of selected suppliers. Supplier selection process has received considerable attention in the businessmanagement literature. Determining suitable suppliers in the supply chain has become a key strategic consideration. However, the nature of these decisions usually is complex and unstructured. These influence factors can be divided into quantitative and qualitative factors. In the first level, linguistic values are used to assess the ratings for the qualitative factors such as profitability, relationship closeness and quality. In the second level a MTOSC model determines the solutions (supplier selection and order quantity) by considering quantitative factors such as part unit price, supplier's lead-time, and storage cost, etc. The other is for APS: (a) selection of the best machine for each operation; (b) deciding sequence of operations; (c) picking out the operations to be outsourcing; and (d) minimizing makespan under the due date of each customer's order. To solve the model, a genetic algorithm (GA)-based heuristic approach is developed. From the numerical experiments, GAbased approach could efficiently solve the proposed model, and show the best process plan and schedule for all customers' orders.

  • Up-to-date business environment for manufacturers is very complex and rapidly changing. In other words, companies are facing a variety of changes, such as diversifying customer requirements, shortening product life cycles, and switching to small quantity batch production. In this situation, the companies are introducing the concept of JIT (just-in-time) to solve the problem of on-time production and on-time delivery for survival. Though many companies have introduced ERP (enterprise resource planning) systems and MRP (material requirement planning) systems, the performance of these systems seems to fall short of expectations. In this paper, the case study on introducing an APS (advanced planning and scheduling) system based on dispatching rules to a machining company and on finding a method to establish an efficient production schedule is presented. The case company has trouble creating an effective production plan and schedule, even though it is equipped with an MRP-based ERP system. The APS system is applied to CNC (computer numerical control) machines, which are key machines of the case company. The overall progress of this research is as follows. First, we collect and analyze the master data on individual products and processes of the case company in order to build a production scheduling model. Second, we perform a pre-allocation simulation based on dispatching rules in order to calculate the priority of each order. Third, we perform a set of production simulations applying the priority value in order to evaluate production lead time and tardiness of pre-defined dispatching rules. Finally, we select the optimal dispatching rule suitable for work situation of the case company. As a result, an improved production schedule leads to an increase in production and reduced production lead time.

  • We have designed and fabricated an active pixel sensor(APS) using an optimized n-well/gate-tied p-channel metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor(PMOSFET)-type photodetector with a built-in transfer gate. This photodetector has a floating gate connected to n-well and a built-in transfer gate. The photodetector has been optimized by changing the length of the transfer gate. The APS has been fabricated using a 0.35 ${\mu}m$ standard complementary metal oxide semiconductor(CMOS) process. It was confirmed that the proposed APS has a wider dynamic range than the APS using the previously proposed photodetector and a higher sensitivity than the conventional APS using a p-n junction photodiode.

  • This study aimed to analyze the prevalence and severity of infraoccluded primary molars (IPM) and their correlation with the agenesis of permanent successors (APS). A total of 4,011 panoramic radiographs from children aged 4 to 11 years who had all 8 primary molars were examined. The prevalence of APS was analyzed based on the severity and tooth type of IPM. The prevalence of IPM was 13.0%, and there was no difference between genders. The majority of the children had two IPMs each. In all tooth types, mild infraocclusion was the most prevalent, whereas severe infraocclusion was the least frequent. Among the types of primary molars, the lower primary first molar (62.3%) was the most affected, followed by the lower primary second molar (27.7%), the upper primary second molar (5.8%), and the upper primary first molar (4.2%). Infraocclusion was 11.2 times more prevalent in the mandible than in the maxilla, with no significant difference between the left and right sides. The correlation between IPM and APS was also investigated. Among the subjects, 177 had one or more agenesis of premolars, of whom 54 (30.5%) had IPM. Additionally, among the 521 individuals with IPM, 54 individuals exhibited APS (10.4%). This study identified a noteworthy prevalence of infraocclusion, with notable variations among molar types. The LPFM was particularly affected. The majority of cases were classified as mild in severity. Furthermore, a compelling association between IPM and APS was established. Understanding this connection may enhance treatment strategies for infraoccluded teeth and tooth agenesis.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate prosodic characteristics in the speech of adults with cerebral palsy through a comparison with the speech of normal speakers. Ten speakers with cerebral palsy (6 males, 4 females) and 6 normal speakers (3 males, 3 females) served as subjects. The results revealed that, compared to normal speakers, speakers with cerebral palsy showed a slower speech rate, a larger number of intonational phrases(IPs) and pauses, a larger number of accentual phrases(APs) per IP, a longer duration of pauses, and more gradual slopes of [L +H] in APs. However, the two groups showed similar tone patterns in their APs. The results also showed mild to moderate correlations between speech intelligibility and the prosodic properties which showed significant differences between the two groups, suggesting that they could be important prosodic factors to predict speech intelligibility in the speech of adults with cerebral palsy.

  • Semiconductor manufacturing is one of the most complex and capital-intensive processes composed of several hundreds of operations. In today’s competitive business environments, it is more important than ever before to manage manufacturing process effectively to achieve better performances in terms of customer satisfaction and productivity than those of competitors. So, many semiconductor manufacturing companies implement advanced planning and scheduling (APS) system as a management tool for the complex semiconductor manufacturing process. In this study, we explain roles of production planning and scheduling in semiconductor manufacturing and principal factors that make the production planning and scheduling more difficult. We describe the APS system implementation project at Korean semiconductor manufacturing company in terms of key issues with realistic samples.

  • Wireless LANs are becoming more widespread because of the rapid advance of wireless technologies and mobile computers. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a system to help mobile users to select the most competent AP. By monitoring the network traffic of APs within the local LAN in real time, this system offers the mobile user the network utilizations, locations, and signal strengths of APs online. Based on the information, the user can select a competent AP with a high wireless bandwidth. Finally, we verified the accuracy of monitoring and calculating with regard to the utilizations of APs through real experiments.

  • Twenty microbial strains producing the acylase were isolated from soil by using Micrococcus luteus ATCC 9341 as an indicator strain, using either D-($\alpha $)-phenylglycine methylester and 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA) or glutaric acid dimethylester and 7-ACA as substrates. Among the isolates, only one strain was turned out to be the 7-ACA producer from either cephalosporin C or glutaryl 7-ACA as the substrates by using the overlay of 7-ACA sensitive strain (SS5). 7-ACA produced from cephalosporin C by an isolate (APS20) was detected by high performance liquid chromatography. The isolated strain (APS20) was identified to Bacillus macerans on the basis of cellular fatty acid profile by gas chromatography. Bacillus macerans APS20 had no $\beta $-lacta-mase activity on cephalosporin C, and that is very important for the enzymatic production process of 7-ACA. However, this strain was resistant up to 100 $\mu $g/ml of cephalosporin C.

  • As a main management unit of MSC, PMU controls the MSC payload operation by issuing commands to other subunit and PMU internal modules. One of these main control functions is to drive the APS(Antenna Pointing System) when APS motion is required. For this purpose, SBC(Single Board Computer) for calculating motor commands and APDE for driving APM(Antenna Pointing Mechanism) by PWM signal operate inside PUM. In this paper, details on APDE design shall be described such as electronic board architecture, primary and redundant design concept, Cross-Strap, FPGA contents and latch-up immune concept, etc., which shall show good practices of electronic board design for space program.
