  • In IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN, stations keep synchronization by receiving beacons being periodically sent by the AP (access point) when they run in low power mode. Beacon transmission is delayed if wireless channel is busy at a scheduled TBTT (target beacon transmission time), and stations must be awake until they receive the delayed beacon. In this paper, we propose a scheme that stations get their transmission delayed if they have little time for successful data transmission by the next TBTT. Beacon transmission without delay is guaranteed at every TBTT with this method so that the awake time of low power stations to receive beacon can be reduced. The proposed method is simulated and its characteristics ore described with the analysis of the results. The measured results in terms of beacon delay show some enhancement in energy consumption.

  • This paper presents an interface configuration between the Access Point(AP) of Wibro and Radio Over Fiber(ROF) transceivers for the wireless broadband internet system. The wireless internet could provides 60km/h mobility and 50Mbps IP based data services for each mobile terminal. Thus, low cost of each cell is inevitably required. This paper suggests an interface configuration between AP and Passive Integrated Picocell(PIP) involving ROF links. Characteristics of a typical Fabry-Perot ROF link and a PIP using a passive Electro-Absorption Modulator(EAM) are described and measured for wireless internet applications. In addition, results of RF coverage of a PIP have been shown.

  • Currently, GPS(Global Positioning System) is used to find user location information. However, in some cases, especially in urban environments, we receive unreliable location information deu to multipath fading. In order to resolve this problem, we propose a closely coupled positioning technique where GPS signal is combined with QZSS signal. Also we proposed and analyze a combining algorithm of GNSS and Wi-Fi signals to get closely coupled location information by referring AP information. Finally, this paper proposes a combined GPS/QZSS/Wi-Fi navigation algorithm to improve navigation performance, and it is verified by testing of car deriving according to availability and accuracy standard.

  • Bluetooth technology has been applied to mobile device, personal computers, peripherals, information and variety of consumer electronics. Not also the original Bluetooth technology must be especially focused in the application of mobile phone but applications such as wireless headsets and dial-up networking may be increased. However Bluetooth is so only focused to wireless headset application that the various software applications are presently ignored. In this paper, we propose the framework design to implement Bluetooth profile for kiosk servers, which can be used in Theater, train station, bank, government and public offices. Then mobile devices capable of processing user's input/output can be remotely accessed in these servers by using Bluetooth module and AP, although Kiosk servers are only processed user input data.

  • In this paper, we propose a MLKA (Multi-Level Keep-Alive) algorithm based on PRCG (Periodic In this paper, we propose a MLKA (Multi-Level Keep-Alive) algorithm based on PRCG (Periodic Ranging Code Group), in which periodic ranging codes are divided into groups. The AP (Access Point) performs this algorithm when a periodic ranging code arrives at the AP in a WiBro (Wireless Broadband Internet) system. In order to increase the traffic radio bandwidth resource efficiency in this system, we propose the multi-level keep-alive algorithm for finding abnormal AT (Access Terminal). From simulation results, it is verified our proposed MLKA algorithm based on PRCG can provide higher traffic radio resource efficiency compared to message-driven keep-alive algorithms.

  • Owing to the proliferation of smart phone users, a proactive spectrum policy is needed in order to deal with increasing data traffic. Therefore, the prediction of frequency requirements for future wireless local area network (WLAN) as well as a licensed cellular communication is necessary. In this paper, we proposed a new prediction method for WLAN spectrum requirements. This method includes both a traditional prediction method and an offloading percentage from cellular network, Also, it can consider a frequency interference between access points using a statistical approach. Based on these approaches, we can predict the spectrum requirements of future domestic WLAN services considering the frequency interference. Finally, we suggest the spectrum policy for WLAN which can prevent spectrum shortage of future WLAN services.

  • Today, wireless LANs are widely deployed in various places such as corporate office conference rooms, industrial warehouses, Internet-ready classrooms, etc. However, new concerns have been raised regarding suity. Currently, both virtual private network(VPN) and WEP are used together as a strong authentication mechanism. While security is increased by using VPN and WEP together, unnecessary redundancy occurs causing power consumption increase and authentication speed decrease in the authentication process. In this paper a new synchronization protocol for authentication is proposed which allows simple authentication, minimal power consumption at the mobile station, and high utilization of authentication stream. This is achieved by using one bit per a frame authentication, while main authentication process including synchronization is handled by access points. Computer simulation reveals that the proposed scheme significantly improves the authentication efficiency in terms of the number of authenticated frames and authentication speed compared with an earlier protocol employing a similar authentication approach.

  • Wireless LANs based on the IEEE 802.11 standard are widely spread for use nowadays. Traffic which are conveyed over the WLANs change rapidly from normal data such a Email and Web pages, to multimedia data of high resolution video and voice. To meet QoS (Quality of Service) required by these multimedia traffic, the IEEE 802 committee recently has developed a new standard, IEEE 802.11e. IEEe 802.11.e contains two MAC mechanisms for providing QoS: EDCA(Enhanced Distributed Channel Access) and HCCA (HCF Controlled Channel Access). Using these standardized MAC mechanisms as a building platform, various admission control mechanisms can be combined to offer QoS gurantees for multimedia traffic. This paper surveys these research efforts.

  • This paper introduces a new split-TCP approach for improving TCP performance over IEEE 802.11-based wireless LANs. TCP over wireless LANs differently from wired networks is not aggressive, which is a fundamental reason for poor performance. Therefore, we propose TAS (TCP-Aware Sub-layer) to migigate this problem. Our scheme extends the split-connection approach that divides a connection into two different connections at a split point such as an access point (AP). Using TAS, a wireless node emulates TCP ACK packets using MAC ACK frames, instead of receiving real TCP ACK packets. We compared TAS with both normal TCP and I-TCP (Indirect TCP) by NS2 simulation. Results show that TAS achieves higher throughput, more fair resource allocation and, in power-saving mode, shorter delays.
