  • In this paper, Indoor Positioning System based on Wi-Fi system which is one of the key technology in LBS(Location Based Service) is proposed. The proposed system estimates distance between MS(Mobile Station) and AP(Access Point) using RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indicator). RSSI is affected by outlier that originate from indoor environment complexity and obstacle. In this paper, we introduce a Robust outlier Extended Kalman Filter that can ignore, real-time outlier in the observations. To demonstrate performance of proposed indoor positioning system, we used a PDA as the MS.

  • Ubiquitous implementation of indoor location-based technology is recognized that one of the important elements of the technology. Specifically, the hospital management of patients, the silver-town management, the implementation of the smart home for the indoors rather than outdoors in a range of broadband users for location-aware technology is needed. This paper in wireless devices with an indoor location awareness shows about the system's technical design and implementation. Location-based technology for wireless LAN users aware of the strength of radio signals (Received Signal Strength Indication, RSSI) using trilateration. Topographic mapping system will be implemented wireless devices and servers, Access Point (AP), which is the system's development and testing throughout the physical environment to determine the potential for real-life applications.

  • The mobile radio networks can be divided into networks that has the base station or the infrastructures like AP(Access Point) and Ad Hoc network that hasn't any infrastructures. As there aren't any fixed infrastructures in Ad Hoc Networks, mobile nodes should transmit the data only among mobile nodes themselves. To supplement these weakpoints of the two networks, many studies about Ad Hocs based on the 802.11 are in progress. In this thesis, we try to propose the efficiency of the suggested protocols by comparing and analyzing power saving protocols according to the Beacon intervals in multi hop Ad Hoc Networks based on IEEE 802.11.

  • Recently, an idea has been suggested in which members construct the network by sharing their surplus bandwidth of their own access point. This kind of network is called public-shared network. As an application, SVC video streaming delivery system on public-shared network has been proposed. To send video stream from the stream server to clients, a tree structure is constructed where the root is a stream server, internal nodes are sharable access points, and leafs are clients. The previous researches have focused on constructing the minimal sharable-bandwidth tree which can serve all video streaming requests using the minimal sharable bandwidth. In this paper, we have shown that the problem of constructing a tree structure with given sharable access points to serve maximal video streaming requests is NP-hard. We also have developed an efficient heuristic algorithm for this problem and evaluated experimentally our algorithm.

  • IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN has become the center of attention for one of the most dominant wireless networking technologies nowadays. In densely deployed wireless LANs, mobile stations are exposed to a number of AP, thus it is needed to select the best AP to associate with. The most common approach is to select the AP with the highest received signal strength. However it does not consider traffic load imposed to each AP so that it may cause the poor network performance. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a throughput estimation scheme for neighboring APs by sniffing the traffic within 802.11 networks. We devise a tool, named "VirtFrame", which is to estimate the station's capable throughput from neighbor APs based on the channel access time by virtually combining the sniffed frames. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme well matches that there exists correlation between the channel access time and the actual throughput of the APs.

  • IEEE 802.11i standard specifies full authentication and preauthentication for secure handoff in 802.11 wireless LAN (WLAN). However, the full authentication is too slow to provide seamless services for handoff users, and preauthentication may fail in highly populated WLAN where it is highly probable that the cache entry of a preauthenticated user is evicted by other users before handoff. In this paper, we propose a fast and secure handoff scheme by reducing authentication and key management delay in the handoff process. When a user handoffs, security context established between the user and the previous access point (AP) is forwarded from the previous AP to the current AP, and the session key is reused before the handoff session terminates. The freshness of session key is maintained by regenerating session keys after handoff session is terminated. The proposed scheme can achieve considerable reduction in handoff delay with providing the same security level as 802.1X authentication by letting an AP authenticate a handoff user before making an robust security network association (RSNA) with it.

  • In IEEE 802.11b wireless network, stations synchronize themselves to the beacons periodically sent by the access point (AP) when they are running in low power mode. Stations stay awake for enough time to receive beacon because it is delayed in AP if the wireless channel has been being used by other traffic at each scheduled instant. In this paper, we propose a method that measures the delay of received beacons and calculates wake-up interval of station to receive the next one. Beacon transmission delay at the AP is analyzed. The proposed method is simulated and its characteristics are described in the analysis. The result measured in terms of station's wake-up interval shows some enhancement in energy consumption.

  • In this paper, it is investigated to the security services and vulnerability tools of IEEE802.11 wireless LAN, and it is considered the employment state of wireless LAN AP (access point) and analyzed the state of security vulnerability. In according to this study, among wireless LAN APs, which are operated in each company or each factory, in center around industrial of Cheonan city, 50% of AP, which is used, is not operated on WEP, and therefore, it is stated the weakness of security so far. From the result of this study, in case of mid and small company, it can be distinguished the necessity of the security training for the informaton system manager.

  • Although the Distributed Coordination Function is the fundamental access protocol of IEEE 802.11, it cannot meet the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements in general. So, the Point Coordinate Function is provided to support QoS related services. However, it has inherent problems. Access point (AP) has no knowledge of the queue status and instantaneous channel condition of stations in the system. In this paper we propose an efficient and versatile polling scheduler that shows excellent throughput and fairness performance. Comparison with well known polling schemes is provided through computer simulation under various channel situations including error prone environments.
