  • In recent years, indoor localization has been researched for the improvement of its localization accuracy capability in Wi-Fi environment. The fingerprint and RF propagation models has been the main approach in determining indoor positioning. With the use of fingerprint, a low-cost, versatile localization system can be achieved without the use of external hardware. However, only a few research have been made on virtual access points (VAPs) among indoor localization models. In this paper, the idea of indoor localization system using fingerprint with the addition of VAP in Wi-Fi environment is discussed. The idea is to virtually add APs in the existing indoor Wi-Fi system, this would mean additional virtually APs in the network. The experiments of the proposed algorithm shows the positive results when 2VAPs are used compared with only APs. A combination of 3APs and 2VAPs in the 3rd case had the lowest average error of 3.99 among its 4 scenarios.

  • Recently, identifying user locations is becoming important as the society evolves into an ubiquitous society with the innovation of information technology. Particularly, many researches on identifying user locations are headed in direction to identify locations of users in the indoors, because a GPS that is widely used to identify the locations of users in the outdoors is inapplicable in the indoors. However, those researches are mostly not useful to general indoor environment because they are performed in a specific environment with specialized or customized devices such as UWB, RFID. Therefore, in this paper we propose a effective method to identify user locations in general indoor environments with wireless local network access points. Our approach enables to identify user location efficiently by measuring signal power of access points around the user and using the FRIIS formula which is used to calculate the distance among the things.

  • Wireless LAN (WLAN) interface is one of the major sources drastically depleting the battery power of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Most commercial mobile devices employ a power saving technique putting their WLAN interface into a sleep state when there is no network traffic, and thereby, save the battery power. However, since an access point (AP) just transmits the packet(s) received from a server to the corresponding mobile device immediately, it may cause a problem that the mobile device constantly remains in an awake state so that its battery power is rapidly drained. In this paper, we point out this problem and propose a new scheme that can save the mobile device's battery power with an adaptive packet scheduling at the AP side. From the experimental results based on a testbed, we found that the proposed scheme outperforms existing schemes over 50% in terms of power saving.

  • Recent advancement in RF technology and wireless communications has enabled the development of noble networks. Bluetooth that can be used in various application field is a kind of WPAN(Wireless Personal Area Network) standard that is widely known. Bluetooth enables voice and data applications to operate simultaneously. Various applications have been implemented based on standard Profiles. In this paper, we describes the development of Biuetooth network AP(Access Point) system for network connection of Bluetooth devices. Unlike headset, mouse, and keyboard, the access point should have capability to support multiple connection and stabilized network throughput. We have designed and developed the hardware system, core stack and profiles on embedded system to comply with standard specification. Our system showed compatibility and good protocol performance through testing with lots of products that is available in market.

  • UPnP(Universal Plug and Play) 홈네트워크에서 무선랜은 위치에 상관없이 쉽게 설치하여 사용할 수 있어 사용자에게 편의성을 제공 하지만, AP(Access Point)는 해킹을 통한 MAC 주소 및 SSID(Service Set Identifier), WEP(Wired Equivalent Privacy)의 암호를 쉽게 알 수 있어 보안에 취약하다.

  • Recently, researches on the construction information for construction of high-tech cities are under performed. RTLS(Real-Time location system) for gathering the dynamic location information of construction resources in construction sites, such as workers, materials and equipments, is one of the developments. Especially, construction resources can be managed efficiently with the dynamic location information and the improvement of safety and the reduction of cost are expected. To introduce the RTLS to the construction sites, the installation location of AP(Access Point) must be simulated using the 3-dimensional visibility analysis considering the propagation distance of AP. In this research, 3-dimensional signal simulation software based on the spatial data using surveying terrestrial LiDAR is developed. The simulated results are compared with the signal strength of field experiments for 4 test sites. As a result, the signal strength from the propagation model is most similar to that of field experiment at the front of the main building and the maul playground of Konkuk University. The visibilities in that sites are higher than other sites. among 4 test sites.

  • Handoff is a critical issue for seamless roaming in IEEE 802.11-based wireless networks. In order to provide real-time services, handoff mechanism must be provided. However, the IEEE 802.11 standard handoff is not appropriate to provide the services, because it is based on the full-scanning approach which spends too much time searching Access Point (AP). In this paper, we propose a new scheme, which can reduce the scanning latency. A station performs full-scanning operation for finding APs when it enters wireless networks for the first time. The station sends the scanned channel information to AP. AP maintains the neighbor channel table based on the information received from stations. A station performs the partial-scanning by using the table. Therefore, the proposed scheme can reduce the scanning latency.

  • A Wireless Lan has an importance of access control, because we can use wireless Internet via AP(Access Point). Moreover, to use wireless LAN, we will go through authentication process of EAP. DoS(Denial of Service) attack is one of the fatal attack about these AP access and authentication process. That is, if malicious attacker keeps away access of AP or consumes memory of server and calculation ability of CPU and etc. compulsorily in authentication process, legal user can't get any services. In this paper, we presents the way of protection against the each attack that is classified into access control, allocation of resource, attack on authentication protocol. The first thing, attack to access control, is improved by pre-verification and the parameter of security level. The second, attack of allocation of resource, is done by partial stateless protocol. And the weak of protocol is done by time-stamp and parameter of access limitation.

  • In an indoor localization method taking the lateration-based approach, the distance between a target and an AP (Anchor Point) is estimated using RSS (Received Signal Strength) measurements. Since the characteristics of a radio signal randomly vary in time and space, errors are unavoidable in distance estimation with measured RSS. Since the accuracy of distance estimation affects the localization accuracy of a lateration-based method, additional APs hearing a target have been used for localization in the literature. However, lots of experimental results show that the accuracy of a lateration-based method is improved by using carefully selected APs measuring the high quality RSSs which the distances estimated is close to the actual distances between nodes as reference APs, not using merely more APs. In this paper, we focus on selection method of reference AP and distance estimation method reflecting on environmental dynamics. We validate our method by implementing an indoor localization system and evaluating the accuracy of our method in the various experimental environments.
