  • The sampling plan CSP-1 for continuous production was first proposed by Dodge in 1943. Continuous production refers to products which are flowing past the inspection station such as products moving on a conveyor belt. One important measure of the effectiveness of a CSP is the average outgoing quality(AOQ). A concept for a short run of production length time, denoted by AOQ(t), is provided. The assumption of a s-independence in CSP-1 is unrealistic. It is possible to relax the assumption of a s-independence. The need for Markov model in a continuous production process can be discussed in this paper. The Markov and renewal theory are used to describe the property of AOQ in CSP-1.

  • This paper provides equation for computing the AOQ of an unreliable random FMS. The FMS is described using open central server model with network GI/G/S Queues. And the equation for AOQ is simplified due to computational complexities. Numerical example is used to show the effect of AOQ according to inspection location, reliability of equipment in an FMS, and the effect of difference of routing probability is compared after finding the AOQL of each machine center.

  • The general formulas of the operating characteristic(OC) function, average sample number(ASN) and average outgoing quality(AOQ) for the modified n-level skip-lot sampling plan(MMSkSP2) were derived using Markov chain properties by Cho(2008). In this paper, the OC curve, ASN and AOQ of a reference plan, modified two-level, three-level and five-level skip-lot sampling plans are compared.

  • Skip-Lot sampling plan is formulated in terms of renewal process. This approach facilitates studying the average outgoing quality in a short production run of length t, AOQ (t). By numerical studies it is found that the long-run average outgoing quality (AOQ) greatly overestimates AOQ (t) for short runs.

  • In this study, physical properties of synthesized DE7-OSA82-AO and DEP52-OSA82-AOQ82 zwitterionic surfactants were measured such as critical micelle concentration, surface tension, interfacial tension, contact angle and viscosity. Phase behavior study was also performed. The dual function characteristics of a zwitterionic surfactant were investigated by determining an isoelectric point, which was attained using zeta potential measurements and QCM (quartz crystal microbalance) experiments. The isoelectric point of DE7-OSA82-AO surfactant determined by the zeta potential measurement and QCM experiment was about 7.2 and 7.4, respectively. On the other hand, the isoelectric point of DEP52-OSA82-AOQ82 surfactant determined by the zeta potential measurement and QCM experiment was about 10.9 and 11.0, respectively. The frictional property measured using an automated mildness tester showed that DE7-OSA82-AO surfactant can provide a good softening effect at an acidic or neutral condition. On the other hand, DEP52-OSA82-AOQ82 was found to provide a good softening effect to a fabric surface at a pH below its isoelectric point of 11.

  • A quality inspection procedure interchangeably using the performance and screening variables is proposed. At the start of the inspection, the performance variable is measured for all items. As soon as i consecutive items are found to be free of defects, the screening variable is measured instead of the performance variable. If an item is rejected, the inspection based on the performance variable is resumed. All nonconforming items found in the inspection are either reworked or replaced with conforming items. It is assumed that the performance variable is dichotomous, and the screening variable given the performance variable is normally distributed with known mean and variance. The average outgoing quality (AOQ) expression is derived, and the methods of finding the inspection procedure with a specified average outgoing quality limit (AOQL) are presented.
