  • Gene classification can involve complex order-restricted inference. Examining gene expression pattern across groups with order-restriction makes standard statistical inference ineffective and thus, requires different methods. For this problem, Roy's union-intersection principle has some merit. The M-estimator adjusting for outlier arrays in a microarray study produces a robust test statistic with distribution-insensitive clustering of genes. The M-estimator in conjunction with a union-intersection principle provides a nonstandard robust procedure. By exact permutation distribution theory, a conditionally distribution-free test based on the proposed test statistic generates corresponding p-values in a small sample size setup. We apply a false discovery rate (FDR) as a multiple testing procedure to p-values in simulated data and real microarray data. FDR procedure for proposed test statistics controls the FDR at all levels of ${\alpha}$ and ${\pi}_0$ (the proportion of true null); however, the FDR procedure for test statistics based upon normal theory (ANOVA) fails to control FDR.

  • The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of a parental education program developed to 295 single university students based on pre-test and the post test on the program. The data is interpreted using statistical methods such as the Percentage, T -Test, Anova test, and the Turkey test. The major results were as follows : First, significant difference regarding the knowledge on parenthood existed among students before and after the tests, with the post-test students showing more knowledge on the matter. Among the six sub-categories of parenthood education program, the effects of the post-testing were most visible in pregnancy, delivering, pre-natal and infant development, parents attitude, and sex education for their children in the form of increased awareness and knowledge. However, no significant effects were detected in pre-natal education. In terms of socio-demographic variable, effects were more visible in female students than in male students. Second, the program also resulted in positive effects in both male and female students.

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of high intensity intermittent training on cardiopulmonary capacity in canoe and kayak paddlers. METHODS: A total of 16 canoe and kayak paddlers were participated in this study. Experimental group(n=8) was performed high-intensity intermittent training and control group(n=8) was moderate intensity training. All subjects performed a treadmill test in order to compare the difference before and after the intervention. Finishing the test, all subjects were measured to their heart rate(HR), forced vital capacity(FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and forced expiratory ratio(FEV1/FVC). Recovery of heart rate(RHR) was calculated using the HR. HR and pulmonary flow values was measured before and during the intervention period per 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks. To compare the differences over time between experimental group and the control group, used(time${\times}$group) two-way repeated measures ANOVA. One-way repeated ANOVA was performed to determine where differences over time within-group. RESULTS: One-way repeated ANOVA revealed a significant difference in the experimental and control group. In experimental group, %RHR3min and FEV1 were significantly increased after 4 weeks(p<.05). Also, %RHR1min, FVC and FEV1/FVC were significantly increased after 6 weeks(p<.05). In control group, %RHR1min, %RHR3min, FVC, FEV1 and FEV1/FVC were significantly increased after 6 weeks(p<.05). CONCLUSION: Not only moderate training but also high-intensity intermittent training contributes to cardiopulmonary capacity in canoe and kayak paddlers. Although high-intensity intermittent training is very short time, the training has high degree of efficiency. Therefore, developed this training in the future, it will be better to improve the cardiopulmonary capacity for athletes and healthy people.

  • Nano flexible vesicles encapsulating an adenosine, an active ingredient for anti-wrinkle, were prepared for the transdermal delivery. The nano flexible vesicle is usually composed of phospholipid, ethanol, and lysolecithin, which is a type of liquid crystalline one made by dispersing the liquid crystalline phase formed through a hydration process into a water phase. In this study, the Taguchi method, one of the experimental design methods, was applied to investigate the factors affecting the vesicle droplet size. Signal to noise (S/N) ratios for the smaller the better characteristics of vesicle droplet size were calculated using the Taguchi orthogonal array. The composition of ethanol and lysolecithin in the vesicle constituents and the amount of aqueous solution added in the hydration process were main factors that had a great effect on the vesicle droplet size and ANOVA test showed that these factors were significant at 95% confidence level.
