Quality characteristics of rice cultivars suitable for rice beer

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of rice cultivars (Hangaru, Seolgaeng, Dasan-1 and Anda) on quality characteristics of rice beer. As for moisture content, Hangaru and Seolgaeng that are soft rice were higher than Dasan-1 and Anda as 14.48 and 14.62%, respectively. Dasan-1 and Anda showed higher protein content as compared to other varieties. As for amylose content, Hangaru turned out to be lower than other varieties as 17.71%, whereas reducing sugar content of Hangaru and Seolgaeng was higher than Dasan-1 and Anda. Results of hardness showed that Hangaru and Seolgaeng were measured lower than Dasan-1 and Anda. As a result of measuring alcohol content, pH and color of beer brewed by rice cultivars, no significant difference by cultivars was found, but measurement result of bitterness showed that beer brewed with Hangaru and Seolgaeng showed lower bitterness comparing to the beer brewed with Dasan-1 and Anda. The results of this study suggest that Hangaru and Seolgaeng are considered cultivars suitable for brewing quality of rice beer.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of rice cultivars (Hangaru, Seolgaeng, Dasan-1 and Anda) on the quality characteristics of rice beer. Hangaru and Seolgaeng which are soft rice varieties, had moisture contents that were 14.48% and 14.62% higher than those of Dasan-1 and Anda, respectively. Dasan-1 and Anda showed higher protein contents than those of the other two varieties. The amylose content of Hangaru was found to be 17.71% lower than that of the other varieties, whereas the reducing sugar content of Hangaru and Seolgaeng was higher than that of Dasan-1 and Anda. Hardness measurements for Hangaru and Seolgaeng were lower than those for Dasan-1 and Anda. Measurements of the alcohol content, pH and color of beers brewed using these rice cultivars revealed no significant difference among the cultivars. However, measurement results for bitterness showed that beers brewed with Hangaru and Seolgaeng had lower bitterness than did the beers brewed with Dasan-1 and Anda. The results of this study indicate that Hangaru and Seolgaeng can be considered as cultivars with brewing qualities suitable for rice beer.

Comparison of Physicochemical Properties between Conventional and High-Yielding Rice Varieties (일반 쌀과 다수확 쌀의 물리화학적 특성 비교)

  • This study invesigated the physicochemical properties of rice flours from conventional and high-yielding rice varieties in order to enhance usability processing of high-yielding rice varieties. Moisture content was not remarkably different among rice flours by cultivar. The highest content of total free sugars was detected in Hopum rice. Apparent amylose content of Anda was higher than that of other rice varieties. The total amount of amino acids was highest in Anda rice among the rice cultivars. Contents of vitamin $B_1$ in Hanarum were highest among the rice cultivars. Initial pasting temperature was lowest in Anda rice ($60.10^{\circ}C$). Hanarum rice showed the lowest setback values among the rice flours. Therefore, Anda and Hanarum rice cultivars were suggesting the possibility of a processed rice food source.

  • Wherever Buddhism has flourished, there were stupas in the form of monuments which have their origin in the tumulm of prehistoric times. After the death of Buddha, his body was cremated following the Indian funeral custom. His ashes, which long reserved for the remains of nobles and holymen, were enshrined under such artificial hills of earth and brick. The Stupa was in origin a simple burial-mound. The form of the burial-mound was a symbolical or magic reconstruction of the imagined shape of the sky, like a dome covering the earth. The domical form of the earliest tumuli may have been concious replicas of the shape of the Vedic hut. There are relationships which may have originally existed between the stupa and West Asiatic monuments. Buddhist Stupa originally cosisted of an almost hemispherical tumulus(anda) and an altar-like structure (harmika) on its top, surmounted by one or several superimposed honorific umbrellas (hti, catta). This hemispherical form is associated with centralisation, lunar worship, mother earth, and Siva. Anda means a symbol of latent creative power, the harmika symbolizes the sanctuary enthroned aboved the world. The honorific umbrella, as an abstract imitation of the shade-giving tree is one of the chief solar symbols and that of enlightenment.

Brewing and Fermenting Characteristics of Makgeolli Produced from High-yielding Rice Varieties (다수성 벼 품종의 양조 특성 연구)

  • We investigated the brewing and fermenting characteristics of makgeolli produced from high-yielding rice varieties. We used the high-yielding indica rice varieties, Anda and Dasan 1, and the japonica varieties, Deuraechan and Boramchan. Our results showed that the rice protein level was the highest in makgeolli produced from Anda ($7.5{\pm}0.2%$), while the amylose level was the lowest in makgeolli produced from the mid- to late-maturing japonica varieties (Deuraechan, $18.9{\pm}0.7%$; Boramchan, $18.9{\pm}1.4%$). Samples of makgeolli produced from Anda, Deuraechan, and Boramchan by using the Ipguk (Koji) method had an alcohol content of 16.6-17.4% on completion of fermentation. By contrast, makgeolli produced from Dasan 1 had an alcohol content of 14.3%; further, the makgeolli differed significantly in the sensory test and was scored as excellent regarding comprehensive preference. For makgeolli produced by using the uncooked rice fermentation method, samples produced from the indica varieties, Anda and Dasan 1, had lower alcohol contents (17.2% and 17.0%, respectively) and higher total acidity levels (0.33% and 0.31%, respectively) than did samples produced from the japonica varieties, Deuraechan and Boramchan (0.28% for both). In the sensory test, samples produced from Anda and Dasan 1 performed significantly better regarding scent, swallowing, and comprehensive preference.

  • Virtually every state in US has adopted laws and regulations that mandate the generic substitution of brand-named prescription drugs in order to reduce sky-rocketing drug costs. In the late 1970s, many state governments began to recognize the need of generic substitution and requested Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to consult with this issue. FDA did consult which drugs were interchangeable each other based upon the available scientific and experimental evidences given to the agency along with New Drug Application (NDA) and Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA).   • Recently, Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) has been attempting to modernize the review processes for generic drug products. Obviously, the modernization effort will lead to harmonize the guidelines in the process to the internationally acceptable level. In general, the Korean version of abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) consisted of similarly to those in developed countries (viz, specifications for bulk drug/preparation, bioequivalence, and stability); However, there exists a significant gap in the sophistication of the guidelines between the Korean version and those in the other countries.   • As the maximum power operating point (MPOP) of photovoltaic (PV) power systems changes with changing atmospheric conditions, the efficiency of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is important in PV power systems. Many MPPT techniques have been considered in the past, but techniques using microprocessors with appropriate MPPT algorithms are favored because of their flexibility and compatibility with different PV arrays. Although the efficiency of these MPPT algorithms is usually high, it drops noticeably in case of rapidly changing atmospheric conditions. In this paper, we proposed a new MPPT control method called improved perturb and observe method (ImP&O), anda simple voltage and current characteristic equation of a PV array for PV array simulator. Experimental results verify the accuracy and excellent performance of the proposed MPPT method. ImP&O algorithm is very simple, and has successful tracked the MPOP, even in case of rapidly changing atmospheric conditions.

  • Being aware of the present situation in Latvia and in whole Europe, Mathematics curriculum development is a topical issue. One of the ways how to deal with it is the application of study modules in the study process. The division of Mathematics studies in the Forms and Content Modules allows students to understand better the organization of study process of mathematics, and creates conceptual awareness of Mathematics logics and its practical application helping students to understand causal relationships and to develop cognitive skills. In the article will be present same theoretical aspects and practical experience in Latvia University of Agriculture.
