  • A six week growth performance trial involving 450 birds was conducted to determine the dietary requirement of broiler chicks for available methionine (AM). Body weight gain was significantly (p<0.01) lower on high AM diet (1411 g/bird) than low AM (1470 g/bird) and normal AM (1466 g/bird) diets. The feed intake by birds ranged from $3241{\pm}25.69$ in high AM diet to $3321{\pm}25.69g/bird$ in low AM diet. The feed efficiency for the three diets having low, normal and high level of AM were $2.26{\pm}0.02$, $2.24{\pm}0.02$ and $2.30{\pm}0.02$, respectively. The results indicated that the birds fed high AM diet consumed significantly (p<0.01) more feed per unit body weight gain as compared to birds on low and normal AM diets.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the amplitude distortion occurring in the transmission of super wideband AM signal when the amplitude and phase variations of the upper and lower sidebands of the AM signal are symmetrical, and odd symmetrical with respect to the carrier. It is shown that the case where the amplitude variations of the upper and lower sidebands of AM signal are symmetrical with respect to the carrier while the phase variations of the upper and lower sidebands are odd symmetrical with respect to the carrier induce, no amplitude distortion in AM signal transmission.

  • This paper proposes an implicit d-ary priority queue, called AM(d)-heap that is a generalized version of AM-heap, in which insert operation takes constant amortized time and remove operation takes O(logn) time. According to our experimental results, the best performance was shown when d is 4 or 8. Also, AM(d)-heap is about 1.5~1.8 times faster than the postorder heap.

  • The behavior of micro amount of Am in aqueous solution were investigated with centrifugation method as a function of pH. In the studies described here, equilibration times were extended to 2-3 weeks to know the aging effect in radiocolloid formation. Also, the effect of the addition of foreign materials, e. g. silica gel and Fe$^{3+}$ were examined as well as the effect of presence of concentrated electrolyte. In the results, Am appeared to be rapidly adsorbed on to impurity particles for pH < 6 and probably on the container walls by an ionic sorption process. The addition of foreign material increased the fraction of Am while the addition of concentrated electrolyte hindered the process. For pH > 7 Am behaved quite differently than for pH < 6. There appeared to be rapid sorption of some Am from solution probably on the container walls followed by partial desorption that occurred over a period of 1-2 days.s.

  • Carbonates are inorganic ligands that are abundant in natural groundwater. They strongly influence radionuclide mobility by forming strong complexes, thereby increasing solubility and reducing soil absorption rates. We characterized the spectroscopic properties of Am(III)-carbonate species using UV-Vis absorption and time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy. The deconvoluted absorption spectra of aqueous Am(CO3)2- and Am(CO3)33- species were identified at red-shifted positions with lower molar absorption coefficients compared to the absorption spectrum of aqua Am3+. The luminescence spectrum of Am(CO3)33- was red-shifted from 688 nm for Am3+ to 695 nm with enhanced intensity and an extended lifetime. Colloidal Am(III)-carbonate compounds exhibited absorption at approximately 506 nm but had non-luminescent properties. Slow formation of colloidal particles was monitored based on the absorption spectral changes over the sample aging time. The experimental results showed that the solubility of Am(III) in carbonate solutions was higher than the predicted values from the thermodynamic constants in OECD-NEA reviews. These results emphasize the importance of kinetic parameters as well as thermodynamic constants to predict radionuclide migration. The identified spectroscopic properties of Am(III)-carbonate species enable monitoring time-dependent species evolution in addition to determining the thermodynamics of Am(III) in carbonate systems.

  • Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of Animunin Powder${\circledR}$ supplementation on the growth perfonnance and blood components in nursery and growing pigs. In Exp. 1, ninety six pigs(initial mean live weights 27,6 ${\pm}$ 2.63kg) were randomly allocated into four treatments with six replications per each treatment. Four treatments were control(CON), control + 0.1% Antibiotics(AB), control + 0.1% Animunin Powder${\circledR}$(AM), and control + 0.1% Antibiotics + 0.1% Animunin Powder${\circledR}$(ABM). During 4 weeks experiment, ADG of pigs was significantly(p < 0.05) higher in ABM treatment compared with CON and AB treatments, Serum IgG concentration was higher(P < 0.05) in AM and ABM treatments than CON. Serum from treated pigs ABM had higher(P < 0.05) albumin concentration in comparison to CON and AB treatments. In addition, higher (p < 0.05) serum lymphocyte concentration was found in ABM treatment compared with CON and AM treatments. Digestibility of dry matter was higher(P < 0.05) in ABM treatment compared with AB and AM treatments. However, no statistical differences(P > 0.05) were found in total protein content of serum and crude protein digestibility of diets. In Exp. 2, seventy five pigs(initial mean live weights 40.22 ${\pm}$ 2.82kg) were randomly allocated into three treatments with 5 replicates per each treatment for 29 days. Three treatments were control(CON), control + 0.1% Animunin Powder${\circledR}$(AM1) and control + 0.2% Animunin Powder${\circledR}$(AM2). During the whole experiment, pigs fed AM1 and AM2 diets were shown higher ADG than pigs fed CON diet. The ADFI of AM1 diet is higher(P < 0.05) compared to that of CON diet. Serum IgG and albumin concentration of AM1 and AM2 treatments were greater than those of CON treatment(p < 0.05). Lymphocyte was highest for AM1 and lowest for CON, with intermediate for AM2(P < 0.05). In conclusion, Animunin Powder${\circledR}$ was effective for improving growth performance and to increase the concentrations of blood IgG, albumin, total protein and lymphocyte in nursery and growing pigs.

  • AM radio broadcasting has the advantage that the sound quality is lower than that of FM radio but the service area is wide and at night it can be transmitted even to overseas due to ionospheric reflection. AM radio broadcasts usually transmit large amounts of several tens to several hundreds of kilowatts (KW), requiring a lot of power, which is a financial burden on broadcasters. Recently, it is required to introduce a way to reduce the power of AM radio broadcasting in Korea. Therefore, it is possible to save a certain amount of power compared to the conventional AM radio broadcasting, and it is possible to maintain the existing license service area and sound quality, and what policies are needed to introduce the technology. In this paper, we predict the reduction of transmission power when a high efficiency transmission system is applied to existing AM radio broadcasting transmission system. As a result of the research, AMC adopting the high efficiency transmission method instead of the conventional AM radio transmission method, and when the modulation ratio of AM radio is 70%, if -3 dB companding is applied, the annual transmission power charge is decreased from 5,185,838,160Won to 3,528,900,086Won with saving of 32.0%, When -6 dB companding is applied, it is expected to be reduced to 2,608,378,934Won, which is 49.7% savings.

  • The feasibility of skin penetration was studied for aspalatone (AM, acetylsalicylic acid maltol ester), a novel antithrombotic agent. In this studys hairless mouse dorsal skins were used as a model to select composition of vehicle and AM. Based on measurements of solubility and partition coefficient, the concentration of PC that showed the highest flux for AM across the hairless mouse skin was found to be 40%. The cumulative amount permeated at 48 h, however, appear inadequate, even when the PC concentration was employed. To identify a suitable absorption enhancer and its optimal concentration for AM, a number of absorption enhancers and a variety of concentration were screened for the increase in transdermal flux of AM. Amongst these, linoleic acid (LOA) at the concentration of 5% was found to have the largest enhancement factor (i.e., 132). However, a further increase in AM flux was not found in the fatty acid concentration greater than 5%, indicating the enhancement effect is in a bell-shaped currie. In a study of the effect of AM concentration on the permeation, there was no difference in the permeation rate between 0.5 and 1% for AM, below its saturated concentration. At the donor concentration of 2%, over the saturated condition, the flux of AM was markedly increased. A considerable degradation of AM was found during permeation studies, and the extent was correlated with protein concentrations in the epidermal and serosal extracts, and skin homogenates. In rat dorsal skins, the protein concentration decreased in the rank order of skin homogenate > serosal extract > epidermal extract. Estimated first order degradation rate constants were $6.15{\pm}0.14,{\;}0.57{\pm}0.02{\;}and{\;}0.011{\pm}{\;}0.004{\;}h^{-1}$ for skin homogenate, serosal extract and epidermal extract, respectively. Therefore, it appeared that AM was hydrolyzed to some extent into salicylmaltol by esterases in the dermal and subcutaneous tissues of skin. taken together, our data indicated that transdermal delivery of AM is feasible when the combination of PC and LOA is used as a vehicle. However, since AM is not metabolically stable, acceptable degradation inhibitors may be nervessary to fully realize the transdermal delivery of the drug.

  • Instantaneous frequencies (IF) of the AM-FM signal is estimated based on the inflection point detection (IPD) method. Local maxima/minima are detected using the IPD, and they are exploited to find the IF of AM and FM components, respectively. The envelope of the maxima/minima is obtained to estimate the IF of the AM part. And the distance between neighboring maxima (or minima) is used to estimate the IF of the FM component. Computer simulation shows that the proposed method properly estimates the IF of the AM and FM when the signal has fixed frequencies for both parts. In the case of the time-varying IF of the FM part, the estimated IF shows some deviation from the true IF due to the rough sampling effect of the maximum/minimum points. Thus, the post-processing such as the lowpass filtering of the estimated IF is required to refine the resulting IF estimation.
