Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), the predominant primary hepatic malignancy, is the prime contributor to mortality. Despite the availability of multiple surgical interventions, patient outcomes remain suboptimal. Immunotherapies have emerged as effective strategies for HCC treatment with multiple clinical advantages. However, their curative efficacy is not always satisfactory, limited by the dysfunctional T cell status. Thus, there is a pressing need to discover novel potential biomarkers indicative of T cell exhaustion (Tex) for personalized immunotherapies. One promising target is Cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2 (CDKN2) gene, a key cell cycle regulator with aberrant expression in HCC. However, its specific involvement remains unclear. Herein, we assessed the potential of CDKN2 expression as a promising biomarker for HCC progression, particularly for exhausted T cells. Our transcriptome analysis of CDKN2 in HCC revealed its significant role involving in HCC development. Remarkably, single-cell transcriptomic analysis revealed a notable correlation between CDKN2 expression, particularly CDKN2A, and Tex markers, which was further validated by a human cohort study using human HCC tissue microarray, highlighting CDKN2 expression as a potential biomarker for Tex within the intricate landscape of HCC progression. These findings provide novel perspectives that hold promise for addressing the unmet therapeutic need within HCC treatment.
As the rapid development of quantum computing compromises current public key encryption methods, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States has initiated the Post-Quantum Cryptography(PQC) project to develop new encryption standards that can withstand quantum computer attacks. This project involves reviewing and evaluating various cryptographic algorithms proposed by researchers worldwide. The initially selected quantum-resistant cryptographic algorithms were developed based on lattices and hash functions. Currently, algorithms offering diverse technical approaches, such as BIKE, Classic McEliece, and HQC, are under review in the fourth round. CRYSTALS-KYBER, CRYSTALS-Dilithium, FALCON, and SPHINCS+ were selected for standardization in the third round. In 2024, a final decision will be made regarding the algorithms selected in the fourth round and those currently under evaluation. Strengthening the security of public key cryptosystems in preparation for the quantum computing era is a crucial step expected to have a significant impact on protecting future digital communication systems from threats. This paper analyzes the security and efficiency of quantum-resistant cryptographic algorithms, presenting trends in this field.

In contemporary society, the expression of emotions and self-reflection are considered pivotal factors with a positive impact on stress management and mental well-being, thereby highlighting the significance of journaling. However, traditional journaling methods have posed challenges for many individuals due to constraints in terms of time and space. Recent rapid advancements in chatbot and emotion analysis technologies have garnered significant attention as essential tools to address these issues. This paper introduces an artificial intelligence chatbot that integrates the GPT-3 model and emotion analysis technology, detailing the development process of a system that automatically generates journals based on users' chat data. Through this system, users can engage in journaling more conveniently and efficiently, fostering a deeper understanding of their emotions and promoting positive emotional experiences.
This study on the social effects of Internet of Things (IoTs) provides an overview of future job prospects through the scenario planning approach, highlighting the challenges and opportunities that IoTs will bring in the future. IoTs and the related field of technological innovations have become increasingly important in both academic and business communities in the past few years because of computing power breakthrough and its price drop. IoTs enables people to deal with routine works efficiently and challenges them even in non-routine and/or cognitive tasks, which are considered a unique area for individuals. The scenario planning analysis helps us to define the uncertain boundary and to estimate the potential opportunities and inherent threats to provide decision makers with a mind map on how the development of IoTs can influence employment. To assess the potential effects on jobs described in our scenarios, we briefly examine the local structure of employment and discuss which careers are expected to decline or grow in particular among the 52 standard occupational classifications in Korea.

Optical Character Recognition is the technology that recognizes text in images and converts them into digital format. Deep learning-based OCR is being used in many industries with large quantities of recorded data due to its high recognition performance. To improve medical services, deep learning-based OCR was actively introduced by the medical industry. In this paper, we discussed trends in OCR engines and medical OCR and provided a roadmap for development of medical OCR. By using natural language processing on detected text data, current medical OCR has improved its recognition performance. However, there are limits to the recognition performance, especially for non-standard handwriting and modified text. To develop advanced medical OCR, databaseization of medical data, image pre-processing, and natural language processing are necessary.
This study assesses forest fire susceptibility in Gangwon-do, South Korea, which hosts the largest forested area in the nation and constitutes ~21% of the country's forested land. With 81% of its terrain forested, Gangwon-do is particularly susceptible to wildfires, as evidenced by the fact that seven out of the ten most extensive wildfires in Korea have occurred in this region, with significant ecological and economic implications. Here, we analyze 480 historical wildfire occurrences in Gangwon-do between 2003 and 2019 using 17 predictor variables of wildfire occurrence. We utilized three machine learning algorithms—random forest, logistic regression, and support vector machine—to construct wildfire susceptibility prediction models and identify the best-performing model for Gangwon-do. Forest and soil map data were integrated as important indicators of wildfire susceptibility and enhanced the precision of the three models in identifying areas at high risk of wildfires. Of the three models examined, the random forest model showed the best predictive performance, with an area-under-the-curve value of 0.936. The findings of this study, especially the maps generated by the models, are expected to offer important guidance to local governments in formulating effective management and conservation strategies. These strategies aim to ensure the sustainable preservation of forest resources and to enhance the well-being of communities situated in areas adjacent to forests. Furthermore, the outcomes of this study are anticipated to contribute to the safeguarding of forest resources and biodiversity and to the development of comprehensive plans for forest resource protection, biodiversity conservation, and environmental management.

This study proposes an innovative methodology for developing flexible printed circuit boards (FPCBs) capable of conforming to three-dimensional shapes, meeting the increasing demand for electronic circuits in diverse and complex product designs. By integrating a traditional flat plate-based fabrication process with a subsequent three-dimensional thermal deformation technique, we have successfully demonstrated an FPCB that maintains stable electrical characteristics despite significant shape deformations. Using a modified polyimide substrate along with Ag flake-based conductive ink, we identified optimized process variables that enable substrate thermal deformation at lower temperatures (~130℃) and enhance the stretchability of the conductive ink (ε ~30%). The application of this novel FPCB in a prototype 3D-shaped sensor device, incorporating photosensors and temperature sensors, illustrates its potential for creating multifunctional, shape-adaptable electronic devices. The sensor can detect external light sources and measure ambient temperature, demonstrating stable operation even after transitioning from a planar to a three-dimensional configuration. This research lays the foundation for next-generation FPCBs that can be seamlessly integrated into various products, ushering in a new era of electronic device design and functionality.

The military leader makes an operation plan to accomplish combat missions. The current doctrine for an operation planning requires the use of simple and clear procedures and methods that can be carried out with human effort under adverse conditions in the field. The work in the process of an operation planning can be said to be a series of decision-making, and the criteria for decision-making generally apply mission variables. However, detailed standards are not fixed as doctrine, but are creatively established and applied. However, for AI-based decision-making, it is necessary to formalize the criteria and the format used. This paper first aims to standardize various criteria and forms to present a method that can be used in a semi-automated assist system, and to seek a plan to artificialize it. To this end, mathematical models and decision-making methods established in the field of operations research were applied to improve efficiency.
Applying autonomous driving technology to construction sites is very difficult due to safety issues. However, the application of various positioning and sensing devices, such as cameras and radars, to construction equipment is very active. Based on these technological trends, the government is making various efforts, including the Serious Accident Punishment Act and support for industrial safety management expenses, to reduce the incidence of accidents caused by construction equipment and industrial vehicles. And, related industries have been developing various safety equipment over the past few years and applying them to the field. In this paper, we investigate the current status of safety equipment-related technologies currently applied to construction equipment and industrial vehicles, and propose a direction for the development of safety technology in construction equipment based on artificial intelligence. Improving the safety and work efficiency of construction equipment based on the technology proposed in this paper should be reviewed through simulation in the future.
