To support the enhancement of aircraft safety, 1090ES ADS-B ground system as the ground surveillance system has been implemented. ADS-B system based on GPS and digital data link provides the function of enhancing the aircraft safety through flight information among aircrafts. This paper gives the result that the implementation of ADS-B ground system and the flight test with onboard ADS-B transmitter has been conducted.

  • As a cornerstone of the next generation air traffic management (ATM), automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) system can provide continual broadcast of aircraft position, identity, velocity and other messages over unencrypted data links to generate a common situational awareness picture for ATM. However, since ADS-B messages are unauthenticated, it is easy to insert fake aircrafts into the system via spoofing or insertion of false messages. Unfortunately, the authentication for ADS-B messages has not yet been well studied. In this paper, we propose an efficient broadcast authentication scheme with batch verification for ADS-B messages which employs an identity-based signature (IBS). Security analysis indicates that our scheme can achieve integrity and authenticity of ADS-B messages, batch verification, and resilience to key leakage. Performance evaluation demonstrates that our scheme is computationally efficient for the typical avionics devices with limited resources, and it has low communication overhead well suitable for low-bandwidth ADS-B data link.

  • In this study, the function of TIS-B(Traffic Information Service-Broadcasting), Runway incursion prevention, conflict warning, way-point assignment were evaluated using ground-to-ground surveillance test bed of KARI which was based on ADS-B(Automatic Dependant Surveillance-Broadcasting) concept. VDL(VHF Data Link) based on STDMA protocol was used as a data link, and an UAT(Universal Access Transceiver) was included to get the TIS-B information, and four ground vehicles and two aircraft were included as rover units. The main purpose of this test bed was to realize the ADS-B concept for the application of ground surveillance and to evaluate its performance.

  • This study is to analyze the performance for ADS-B(Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) operations by the Balanced Scorecard(BSC). It is also to collect the opinions of users(pilots, air traffic controllers and ground operators) relating ADS-B and to use the results as data about preparing political measures of aviation safety. For these purpose, BSC model redesigned on 4 different points of view is used for measuring the performance of the ADS-B operation. The proposed perspectives are affairs effectiveness, user orientation, system orientation and the capacity. As the results of this study, it is showed that the continuous development of ADS-B should be required and the users must be involved in the activities, additionally, the relevant authorities should try to be drawn the user-oriented results through the process.

  • In term of inaccuracy of information and increasing channel occupancy time, the use of voice communication in Air Traffic Control has many problems. In order to improve it, ICAO proposed digital communication and ADS-B system that is more effective for voice communication in ATC. For improvement of effectiveness to add additional parameter to designated ADS-B In-Out data group, many studies being performed. In this paper, we analysis voice communication for reduce the communication traffic in ATC and simulate to add aiming altitude parameter for comparative effect analysis of communication traffic between pilot and controller. The result of the analysis were successfully validated that reduction of communication traffic in ADS-B environments.

  • As a GPS stability problem arises, MLAT system is spotlighted as an alternative technology of ADS-B. MLAT system has a high position accuracy as much as ADS-B. Also, MLAT receives the mode A,C,S, and 1090ES(ADS-B) signals from the mounted aircraft transponder. MLAT receives signals from several receiver units and calculates aircraft positions. MLAT has ADS-B level positioning accurarcy using GPS and can calculate the position information with objects independently. According to global environment changes, Local area multiltilateration(LAM) surveillance system is under development for moving vehicles and aircraft detection in airport. These are still under testing in Tae-an Airfield. In the paper, we analyzed the performance by comparing the calculated position data from MLAT to RTK. In order to confirm the position accuracy of MLAT and the deviation of position data between fixed target and moving target on the ground during the field test in Tae-an Airfield.

  • In the next generation of ATM, ADS-B(Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) and multilateration are the main technology recommended by ICAO(International Civil Aviation Organization). However, there are a lot of non-equipped ADS-B aircraft today. Therefore, TIS-B(Traffic Information Service-Broadcast) provides traffic information, which has obtained from radars for non-equipped ADS-B aircraft. In this paper, we presented an onboard multilateration system for non-equipped ADS-B aircraft using SSR(Secondary Surveillance Radar) signal instead of TIS-B. TIS-B has a lot of error because of using radar data, but multilateration has less error than radar because of using TDOA(Time Difference of Arrival) method. Results of performance analysis show that the position accuracy is improved by the proposed method using on-board multilateration.

  • Deviation of route in aviation safety management is a dangerous factor that can lead to serious accidents. In this study, the anomaly score is calculated by classifying the tracks through clustering and calculating the distance from the cluster center. The study was conducted by extracting tracks within 100 km of the airport from the ADS-B track data received for one year. The wake was vectorized using linear interpolation. Latitude, longitude, and altitude 3D coordinates were used. Through PCA, the dimension was reduced to an axis representing more than 90% of the overall data distribution, and k-means clustering, hierarchical clustering, and PAM techniques were applied. The number of clusters was selected using the silhouette measure, and an abnormality score was calculated by calculating the distance from the cluster center. In this study, we compare the number of clusters for each cluster technique, and evaluate the clustering result through the silhouette measure.

  • The Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) system is a key component of CNS/ATM recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as the next generation air traffic control system. ADS-B broadcasts identification, positional data, and operation information of an aircraft to other aircraft, ground vehicles and ground stations in the nearby region. This paper explores the ADS-B based trajectory prediction and the conflict detection algorithm. The multiple-model based trajectory prediction algorithm leads accurate predicted conflict probability at a future forecast time. We propose an efficient and accurate algorithm to calculate conflict probability based on approximation of the conflict zone by a set of blocks. The performance of proposed algorithms is demonstrated by a numerical simulation of two aircraft encounter scenarios.
