Iceberg-Ship Classification in SAR Images Using Convolutional Neural Network with Transfer Learning

  • Monitoring through Synthesis Aperture Radar (SAR) is responsible for marine safety from floating icebergs. However, there are limits to distinguishing between icebergs and ships in SAR images. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is used to distinguish the iceberg from the ship. The goal of this paper is to increase the accuracy of identifying icebergs from SAR images. The metrics for performance evaluation uses the log loss. The two-layer CNN model proposed in research of C.Bentes et al.[1] is used as a benchmark model and compared with the four-layer CNN model using data augmentation. Finally, the performance of the final CNN model using the VGG-16 pre-trained model is compared with the previous model. This paper shows how to improve the benchmark model and propose the final CNN model.

  • The strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) columns by steel angles and strips (steel cage) is one of various techniques available to increase ultimate column load. Different authors have shown the influence of the beam-column joint on the behaviour of columns strengthened by steel cages. This paper presents an experimental study carried out at the Universidad Polit$\acute{e}$cnica de Valencia with the aim of analysing two different techniques to solve the strengthening close to the joint and the influence on the behaviour of RC columns strengthened steel cages. The ultimate loads obtained in the laboratory tests for these two techniques are compared to that specified by Eurocode 4.

  • A series of new Iron(II) Schiff base amino acid complexes derived from the condensation of amino acid and sodium 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde-5-sulfonate have been synthesized. The complexes were characterized by elemental, electronic, IR spectral analyses and conductance measurements. The stability and solubility of the prepared complexes were determined. Two spectral methods used to determine the stoichiometry of the prepared complexes which exhibited divalent tridentate coordination and formed chelates of octahedral structures. The antibacterial activity of the prepared complexes has been tested against Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Micrococcus bacteria. The effect of HCl on investigated complexes studied spectrophotometrically.

  • In this study the flow rate-to-pressure difference characteristics of short-tube type damping orifices for a aircraft door damper were investigated by CFD analyses. For the verification of the CFD analysis results the actual performance of a door damper was measured and compared with them. and The dynamic response of door damper is Simulated using ADAMS. it's performance is evaluated comparing to the experiment result of door damper.

  • Macrophages, found in circulating blood as well as integrated into several tissues and organs throughout the body, represent an important first line of defense against disease and a necessary component of healthy tissue homeostasis. Additionally, macrophages that arise from the differentiation of monocytes recruited from the blood to inflamed tissues play a central role in regulating local inflammation. Studies of macrophage activation in the last decade or so have revealed that these cells adopt a staggering range of phenotypes that are finely tuned responses to a variety of different stimuli, and that the resulting subsets of activated macrophages play critical roles in both progression and resolution of disease. This review summarizes the current understanding of the contributions of differentially polarized macrophages to various infectious and inflammatory diseases and the ongoing effort to develop novel therapies that target this key aspect of macrophage biology.

  • The spring suspension systems of passenger cars greatly influence the riding quality and safety. To properly design the suspension system, correct dynamic modelling and computational method have to be secured in this study. A computer program package was developed to investigate the dynamic behavior of a car and the suspension system for the case when the impulse input is acted on the car. Also, ADAMS, a commercial dynamic simulation program was used to analyze the dynamic behavior of a car passing over bumps. The actual dynamic behavior of the car was measured with a precision gyrometer and an accelerometer under driving conditions. The computed results agreed well with those of experiments.

  • This report describes a three-month-old Korean domestic kitten presented with dehydration and poor body condition. Physical examination revealed abdominal distension. Rectal diagnosis was unachievable due to the small rectum diameter. X-ray radiography and endoscopy confirmed presence of abdominal distension and indicated a stricture located 1.5 cm from the anus. A balloon was gently inserted into the rectum and inflated several times followed by triamcinolone injection. Four months later, same procedures were repeated. This report is the first to describe the use of balloon dilation of a rectal stricture followed by intralesional triamcinolone injection in a small cat with poor condition.

  • In this paper the overall dynamic response of simple railway bridges subjected to high-speed trains is investigated numerically based on the mechanical models of simply supported single-span and continuous two-span Bernoulli-Euler beams. Each axle of the train, which is composed of rail cars and passenger cars, is considered as moving concentrated load. Distance, magnitude, and maximum speed of the moving loads are adjusted to real high-speed trains and to load models according to Eurocode 1. Non-dimensional characteristic parameters of the train-bridge interaction system are identified. These parameters permit a spectral representation of the dynamic peak response. Response spectra assist the practicing engineers in evaluating the expected dynamic peak response in the design process of railway bridges without performing time-consuming time history analyses.

  • Agriculture is one of the essential needs of human life on planet Earth. It is the source of food and earnings for many individuals around the world. The economy of many countries is associated with the agriculture sector. Lots of diseases exist that attack various fruits and crops. Apple Tree Leaves also suffer different types of pathological conditions that affect their production. These pathological conditions include apple scab, cedar apple rust, or multiple diseases, etc. In this paper, an automatic detection framework based on deep learning is investigated for apple leaves disease classification. Different pre-trained models, VGG16, ResNetV2, InceptionV3, and MobileNetV2, are considered for transfer learning. A combination of parameters like learning rate, batch size, and optimizer is analyzed, and the best combination of ResNetV2 with Adam optimizer provided the best classification accuracy of 94%.

Forest Fire Detection and Identification Using Image Processing and SVM

  • Accurate forest fires detection algorithms remain a challenging issue, because, some of the objects have the same features with fire, which may result in high false alarms rate. This paper presents a new video-based, image processing forest fires detection method, which consists of four stages. First, a background-subtraction algorithm is applied to detect moving regions. Secondly, candidate fire regions are determined using CIE $L{\ast}a{\ast}b{\ast}$ color space. Thirdly, special wavelet analysis is used to differentiate between actual fire and fire-like objects, because candidate regions may contain moving fire-like objects. Finally, support vector machine is used to classify the region of interest to either real fire or non-fire. The final experimental results verify that the proposed method effectively identifies the forest fires.
